My new job

Awesomeness. Also what IS the Maxus like to drive? Always felt that between MGR and LDV, the real stinker and loss was LDV because they needed so little cash to keep trading (and it's the better conspiracy theory).

Bloody awful, Korean charm* with Birmingham build quality*.  Bring back the Convoy,  all is forgiven.

There was a really bad wheel bearing noise on the Transit as I drove it about. I reported straight away but they knew about it already (so why send me out in the bloody thing?)

Welcome to the world of fleet motors and engineering budgets Mo; I've had a coach running since May with no alternator 'cos the fanshaft sheared and Volvo want about £850 for a new one. It's a schoolbus which doesn't go out at night so it gets connected to a mains charger every couple of days.

Four hours to get through the eurotunnel last night. No help apologies or accurate information from the staff. The matrix signs kept saying 30 min delay due to a technical issue, after not moving an inch through the check-in terminals for three hours this was getting silly. I was booked on the 21.20, turned up early enough to be on the 20.20 normally and was on the 00.20. On the plus side the merc doesn't half shift when you put your foot down- even fully loaded it was the fastest thing on the m20. Got in 1.30 this morning.

Only interesting car was a lotus lean ( square one) alongside.

oh and this happened on Friday morning. Car also managed just over 30mpg too on the last fill. Super 98 about 1.34€ in the supermarkets which makes it 99p a litre.

Took civic out after doing new brakes all round. Everything hunjy dory till sat at station waiting to pick missus Moog up.

Drove off and after 5 minutes noticed smoke pouring off rear right brakes. It looks like using the handbrake causes the brakes to stick on. Quick fix by never using handbrake from now on

I got out of the habit of using the handbrake when I had a CX Familiale and then another. Every time they went in for a dealer service they told me they needed new handbrake pads. I was able to say NO THEY DONT, I NEVER USE THE HANDBRAKE so that all the other customers in the service department reception could hear me.

They don't need new handbrake pads. They need a couple of 2ps popping in.

Short pockets in my work uniform trousers meant a cash cascade as I got into the 205 last night.

Fucksticks! 10p now lodged in the  handbrake.

Common problem for a Peugeot I understand

My new job at the Council requires me to to take a 'driving test' in order to show that I can drive thier vehicles safely. I passed, happily and was granted a card which entitles me to drive any thier 'Light' Council vehicles for the next few years. I was promptly told to go out in one thier Ford Transit Connects and take a another fella to show him where another Council compound was located (right near Ma_Sterling's too) and waste a bit of time as there was nowt to do back at base.

There was a really bad wheel bearing noise on the Transit as I drove it about. I reported straight away but they knew about it already (so why send me out in the bloody thing?) I also got to drive an LDV Maxus, which was actually Ok, yeah, there are much better vans out there (Mercedes Sprinter being amongst my faves) but the LDV is alright for works hack.

Time to moonlight as a removal/delivery man?

Just spoken to the guys doing the bodywork on my car. Very upbeat they are too! Seems it is in fine fettle under the few dents on the drivers side and the bad paint on the passengers side was really unnecessary as it was tiny scrape. Should be all painted tonight and in the booth to dry overnight then sand and polish tomorrow.

Isn't it amazing how fast people can do things when you are prepared to pay them shitloads to make your life convenient?

Apparently they worked until 1:00 a.m. this morning on it then went back about 10:00 a.m. and expect to be there until midnight. I wonder if the same tactic will work on Specialist cars... probably not as they are paying some of it!

I have too many cars, am not particularly flush with money at present, so of course I have just agreed to buy another car ... Collection (probably) next weekend.

Had a good poke around the mighty raffleRover 75, looking for items that may cause it to fail it's MOT in November. Discovered this...

Rear upper suspension arms rotten!  No other part of the car has deteriorated like this, must be some quality/design issue with these.  I was a bit crestfallen over this at first, but they don't look massively difficult to replace and at least it's a task I can do.  I can't weld so if this was rotten bodywork that needed fixing, it'd be at the mercy of my local garage.

New arms were £270-odd including delivery, apparently I should be thankful I was able to source them at all.

I went to see this today it's been winking at me on ebay for months. As a refreshing change the scrappy was happy, friendly and helpful. He also said he really is a rubbish scrappy as he just keeps all the interesting stuff for himself. There was a Toyota Will Vi sitting next to the BE-1.

He want's 1800 quid for it. It's in pretty good condition other than a bit of bubbling on the doors, suspect roof rot and the canvas roof looks like it shrank.

Saying that I couldn't see any obvious reason it wouldn't get a test it's all simple K10 Micra stuff.

where is this interesting place ?

Just as well I haven't got a couple of grand burning a hole in my pocket or I'd be the proud owner of that little BE-1.

Posted

It's in Bellshill. They sell quite a lot of stuff on ebay. There was an M3 next to the BE-1, a Lotus Carlton shell next to the M3 and a really rotten SL next to that.

Quite an interesting place.

Holy shit! Is it just the one side????

I genuinely had no idea it was like that. Crikey. I don't know what to say really :(

Posted

I was the first enquiry on it in about 6 months. The thing I found odd was it's not actually a hatchback it's got a little boot that opens like an old Mini but the other way around. It looks nice but but the roof is the biggest worry.

not too far away then, I'll take a look over next week. I recently discovered a breakers in east calder that I need to check out too, not much to look at from driving past but may bear mazda shaped fruit perhaps ?

These guys are daft on the BMW's and Japanese stuff. There was a couple of 350z's and I spotted one new shape MX5 (no doubt a 1.8 with a gubbed engine).

Posted

Be-1s are hideously rare over here - it's probably worth £1800.

Posted

I'd be willing to bet there's no engine in that. Look at the funny camber!

There's also no rear bumper.
