Cheers chaps; will have a bash tomorrow....

We know exactly which plug it is, they've all been pulled out, and this was the "odd one out" - appearance-wise. A new set of leads is £30, but obviously will try the free advice first!  :-D

Peugeot 306 saga continues; it's back at mine after stepson took it to work for one of his mates to look at...

I'll just briefly do the back story. Stepdaughter buys lovely 306 off Sporteh-Shit off here. Lovely.

18 months later mot man says "do this, that & the other", jobs get done by stepson (because I couldn't be arsed with ball joints et al) When he'd finished decides to steam clean the engine and underneathy bits to see where the oil seepage is coming from.

Pisses oil and runs like a 3 legged pig thereafter.

So far it's had a new sump (previous silicon repair ruined by steam-clean), a new injector (someones diagnostic thing said so) the plugs have all been pulled out, one looks like it's not firing properly.

now, i'm no mechanic, but at this point i would have invested in a set of leads (these are in a cassette type thing....weird) and plugs, bunged them in then hoped for the best.

This didn't happen, so all the "experts" are scratching their heads.

It's down my garden sulking like an incontinent child now, somehow it's down to me to fix it.

nice.

Is this a TU5 engine - 1.6? Misfire, whiffly sort of stuttering, refusing to start particularly if it's damp/condensation?

I had one that was pissing me off no end. It failed to proceed for a potential buyer, so I left it were it was in the yard, then went out at night to swear at it with a can of Startyabastard.

It started. Then sulked and baulked. It was also pitch black out. I noticed sparks from the coil pack arcing to one of the mounting brackets. Cleverly* I thought "I know, I'll spray something insulatingy at it" and grabbed the GT85. Which confirmed that there were sparks capable of igniting flammable vapour.

New coil pack for £30 of eBay and the little thing ran like clockwork. Then my friend Siani got a Berlingo, with persistent issues. AA kept checking codes and stuff, no dice. She replaced the coil pack. Clockwork, again.

Throws the wrong codes if there's a misfire, I suspect, but the 306 I had wasn't young enough for OBDII.

Anyone want a W-reg BRG Rover 75 2.0 V6 Classic SE Auto for £600?

Just spotted on the side of the road as I came back home. It was too dark to see the car properly but it checking the plate says its a Classic SE Auto and has MOT until late February 2016. Has Beige cloth seats and is a local car, seen it driving about and parked on a drive. Might chat to the owner tomorrow and get pics.

Let me know if anyone is interested.

Discovery passed its MOT this morning :-)

It went in yesterday afternoon and failed on two ARB bushes, a defective number plate light and - the horror! - the A frame ball joint.

I've never tackled this job before but I'd heard it is a right bastard... and surprise surprise, it was a right bastard.

6 hours, a 15-ton press and my whole vocabulary of swear words later the job was done. Big thanks to "knacklers yard" (occasional AS lurker and even more occasional poster) for his knowledgable help.

Missus moog has decreed that she likes her civic and wants to keep it long term. So took the opportunity to do a couple of jobs.

First off front discs and pads. post-3994-144267740201_thumb.jpg

Stripped it down to find wrong pads. Will get them swapped. Looks like they have sent me rear onespost-3994-14426776122_thumb.jpgpost-3994-144267762332_thumb.jpg

I purchased an impact driver to remove the disc screws. I wish I had bought one years ago! I always ended up grinding head if screw off. post-3994-144267744299_thumb.jpg

New versus old disc.

Sliders cleaned and red rubber greased.

Then moved onto the rear. Osr wheel has been squeaking so was expecting a rear bearing. Instead found the wheel stuck solid. The culprit is the slider pin. Seized solid. post-3994-144267771565_thumb.jpg

So going to have to find new carrier and slider before I can get it back on the road.

That slider will come out no bother if you put it on the gas cooker, and it should still be usable if you give everything a good clean.

I noticed that the rear drivers pads on the meriva have worn right down again, ive refurbed the caliper once, may have to look at an ebay one.

Your post reminded me of it!

When I looked at the Autoguard tyres, I knew id seen them before, but couldnt think where. When we got the previous set of tyres fitted 3 years ago, amy scraped one up a kerb and tore the sidewall up. I grumpily went to the local place and got an tyre fitted. Turns out it was an identical tyre! So now I feel confident that their ok. Its been on 20k and has life left yet, although...

The front pass tyre is wearing the outer edge a bit, and the drivers side is wearing the inner edge a bit. The tracking has been done, and it needs new track rod ends and droplinks, would this cure it or should I get it tracked again next year?

New exhaust first, then suspension bits, thrn other little niggle things!

Careful with the slider they are hollow so can twist off . Using a screw driver carefully remove the rubber bellows then use heat / easing oil to remove

Lobbed it in the oven and got it very hot. Sprayed it and tried brute force to no avail.

Ordered secondhand one for £20 so not really a loss. Hopefully a non sticking brake will mean better mpgs

Yesterday I visited Mahmoud as my radiator was happily leaking away. Up on the ramp we confirmed the leak was coming from the rad and not a pipe. My new job is deep into Birmingham so a few miles of commute are to be covered most days of the week. I dumped a bottle of K-seal into the mix to seal up the rad:

306 update...

@ JohnK, it's a 1360 Pez....

Todays errands took significantly longer than expected, but bought a new coil / plug lead set while I was out, along with a sump gasket and sump plug with decent looking washer.

Swapped the coil pack over, runs marginally better but still not right. Ballz. Was starting to get dark so I've left it until tomorrow, I'll have a go at all the connectors as recommended and cross my fingers.

Oil leak appears to be from the sump area, where some dozy fat bastard appears to have not fully tightened all the bolts. I...er...I mean he....cleaned everything up and nipped the bolts up a bit; we'll see in the morning if that's worked too.

Driving home today, got waved at by a 205 driver and a passing MGF driver complimented the cars while I was closing my driveway gate, also passed an Mk2 Escort van who did the standard Mk2 Escort owner thing and blanked my existence.

Now I just have tomorrow to refit the 1850's braking system, fill it, bleed it, free up the brakes and move it as the estate have decided to re-slate my houses' roof and the car is in the way of the scaffolding which is going up on Monday...

Sierra progress today, as it's been cutting out we decided to drop the fuel tank and to see what it's contents were like, removing it wasn't too bad although all three bolts holding it on snapped off, getting the broken parts out of the chassis was a right ball ache, managed to hacksaw them out in the end with a hacksaw blade with a handle on the end.

Once the tank was out of the car we poured the remaining fuel into a bowl.

post-3625-0-27028100-1442694915_thumb.jpg

That doesn't look good!

post-3625-0-53784200-1442694909_thumb.jpg

It was this rusty colour, after pouring out the fuel the bowl was left full of rusty particles.

post-3625-0-25955600-1442694920_thumb.jpg

That will be the problem then!, What was happening was when the car was being driven to and from the mot station all the muck was getting stirred up and blocking the little filter on the end of the pick up pipe on the sender, i gave that a good clean, a bit of WD40 on the sender even got the fuel gauge to work again, result!, After a lot pissing about and hoovering the tank out it was looking much better.

post-3625-0-35518300-1442694928_thumb.jpg

We also fixed the leaking pump diaphragm on the carb, bit annoying that as i had to pay £35 for a carb repair kit and only used this tiny diaphragm, what can you do?. Sadly as we broke the bolts we couldn't refit the tank as everywhere would have been closed this afternoon, I'll need to track some down so i can get it fitted.

On the plus side it now has a 12 month MOT certificate for the first time in 9 years! Yay! the only advisories are for the exhaust and fuel pipes so i call that a result!, I've taxed it tonight and I fitted a Autoshite sticker to celebrate!.

Glad that the Sierra is eventually tested Mike, must be a relief now that the major work is done.

Spent FOUR HOURS replacing the door mirrors on the Rov 75.  I had to drill one side off, then had to make 1 good mirror out of 2 on the other side, and it took me ages to tease them apart without busting them.

I gave the big spider I found living inside one of them a new home in my garage.

I picked the wallet-raping Mondeo up from the garage this morning.  They couldn't get a part worn tyre in time, so they've fitted a brand new Landsail.  I saw it and immediately thought "WTF is a Landsail, it's going to be fucking horrible".  Then I had a look at the other tyres and two out of the three are also Landsails.  I've been driving on them for the last 9 months with no issues, so can't be too bad.

The car is still laggy as feck though.  The turbo doesn't even try to kick in until about 2,500 rpm.  Someone suggested it could be a blocked EGR valve - on later TDCi's these are a piece of piss to get to, right at the front of the engine behind the offside headlight.  Sadly mine's an older one so it's buried down the back below the turbo inlet pipe.  That'll be a job for a day when I can be arsed then.

I did manage to get the headlight aim sorted though - I'm surprised it passed as the aim seemed way too low to me.  The adjusters were, to my surprise, nice and free, and two minutes with a screwdriver (couldn't find a 7mm allen key) and I can now see where I'm going on dipped beam again, which is useful.

Good news on the Sierra ticket Trigules. I do like late Sierras, the tinted lights and stuff. I'm a 90s boy at heart.

Great news on the m.o.t trig, for tank fitting I use stainless bolts, nuts and washers, i hate those stupid captives that nearly always snap

Thanks, I'm much happier now that it has a mot and we're 99.9% sure we've sorted the problem! It still doesn't owe me much as the parts are so cheap for them, the biggest bill was £185 from the garage for the welding, mot and taking it to the MOT station (and breaking down) 3 times!.

We did hope to do that but we didn't have room to get the bolt or spanner inside the chassis to hold it, unless you know different?.

I had a bit of sierra fettling today, since coming from the bodyshop on Thursday my saph has been in desperate need of a good polish, seeming as today was lovely weather I spent 7 hours polishing.

I've probably posted this before but I bought these of a mate for £25 for the Sierra, I spent a few weeks rubbing them back down and painting them, I got a banging headache painting them as like a twat i forget to ventilate the garage!

Another lad i know has offered to swap the tyres over and balance them for free in exchange for the old Focus alloys as he needs a set of 15" for banger racing so that's a result too!

To get a spanner in you have to deform the rectangular hole slightly on the edge a small amount on the opposite edge to the bolt hole so you can get the open end of a spanner in, then do the bolt up from underneath, i use 13mm head nuts and bolts it makes life easier

You can just make out what I mean on this picture

I used to dream of a set of these on my MK2 fiesta when I was 17, cos there was a bloke on the internet with a website with a MK2 XR2 that had them on and they looked ace. (He had a massive crash in it which ripped the car in half, quite interesting to read but it's long gone off the net in the last 13 years since I last looked)

I got some of the 14" knockoff XR3 ones with massive tyres on for £45 and they wouldn't even go round so I gave up and ran sierra steels from the scrapyard.

Anyway, looks like you've done a nice job of them - Painting wheels is pretty satisfying but not ones with loads of spokes and awkward corners that you can't properly sand into like these!

The sibling's i10 is now in tip top shape following a successful afternoon's tinkering.  It came back from the garage with a fresh new cambelt and clutch and today I gave it an oil and filter change and new Pagid rear brake discs to finish it off.  There was a lot of wear left on the originals but they were scored by the brake pads wearing down to the metal earlier this year, she had Kwik Fit change the pads but the discs were left on until now.  Probably not essential in the grand scheme of things but where brakes are concerned it's better safe than sorry and means the car is now 100% again.  This is good news as it means when she's back down in a couple of weeks I can have the 220SLi back!

It's too modern to be relevant here but the little 2008 i10 1.1 definitely has future shite credentials, it's a decent little thing to buzz around in apart from the rock-hard seats and goes surprisingly well considering.  It feels like a reasonably decent quality car and has a cracking stereo.  That said, everything I've ever had to unbolt from it has been seized solid, the bottom bracket on the radiator has shed large chunks of rust that were rattling around in the undertray and the stuck driveshaft, as it turned out, was not my incompetence but was, according to my tame mechanic,  "f***ing tight", requiring the services of a puller to remove both of them from the gearbox.  Every job has been a right pain in the posterior as a result of seized components and it seems to be mostly down to corroded bolts.  I noticed the sump's looking a bit shabby as well with flaky, scabby rust breaking out on the front of it, not great on a 7 year old car with 50,000 miles on it.

I can see these being dredged out of forgotten garages in 20 years time with 6,000 miles on the clock once all the disposable ones have gone.

Isn't the i10 just the present day Matiz equivalent? Considering it replaced the Amica which was Hyundai's counter-offering to the Matiz.
