Good news: New workshop bench arrived.

Bad news: It weighs 102Kg

Good news: Managed to slide it out of the courier van and onto the random bit of NEC carpet I keep in the barn.

Bad news: It inevitably had some very minor damage from shipping.

Good news: Taking it out of the packing, it was easy to get the bits sorted and into the barn properly.

Bad news: After attaching the legs, it was too bulky to lift up and too heavy to realistically move alone.

Fortunately the landlord/farmer had popped over to check on the sheep, and helped move it into place.

I've got one like that, a Festool bench I use for furniture making.  "Portable!" it said in the brochure.  "Folding legs for easy carrying from site to site!"  Yeah, sure, if you've got arms that are five foot long and can happily walk around with 80 kg tucked under one of them.

I might do is swap Merc for Rover, get Rover on road,

It will be good to see one of your Rovers back on the road.

I had a 2002 ka in for mot today and it was completely and utterly rust free ! I shit you not . The woman who drove it didn't appreciate what she had . Not even the sill seams were bleeding !

I said that I would buy it when she finishes with it in the next few months . Didn't act too keen tho

I think I've just bought a Citroen Berlingo (car, not van) DW8 though, but I do have an XUD for it.

What age is it? Might be nomnomveg.

I helped someone change an auxiliary belt on a DW8 Berlingo recently and was surprised to see a Bosch pump.

About a 1998 I think, in fact I'm pretty sure it's the same engine as I had in the 306 diesel estate I had last year.

In other news [dons flame-proof suit], I test drove a Nissan Leaf today.

And have an extended test drive arranged for next week.

I hope it's not too extended as they only have a 10 mile range if you turn the lights, air con, radio, heater, wipers and fog lamps on.

I don't know why the roof and bonnet don't have solar panels. Missed opportunity.

Posted

I honestly didn't know that solar panels were an option. Every bit helps.

A LEAF charges at 3KWh given half a chance, which is about the input of a solar panel covering the roof of your house. I reckon even the little solar spoiler thing is more for geeks to get hot about rather than to make any worthwhile difference. I was thinking of making a car-sized hydro-electricity scheme for my (dream) LEAF. We get enough rainfall here after all.

What if those two rust-free Ford Ka are the carriers of the disease that's caused all the others to deteriorate?  I wonder if you can vaccinate a rusting Ka by swapping one of the panels off the rust-free Ka onto it?

Baby Charlie arrived yesterday - a full two months early. Despite this he still weighed 4ib 3oz and demonstrated a healthy set of lungs. Me and my other half have a combined age of 90 so there will be no more after this - a DIY vasectomy involving two house bricks is on the cards.

I hope he shares my enthusiasm for shite cars when he gets older.

The Reliant head gasket as gone now. Radiator is like soup but no water in the oil. Need to find someone that cab replace it for me as i have next to no tools and no place to perform the surgery.

Found out why The Saab's aircon doesn't work:

Something must have broken up in a big way inside the compressor to cause damage like that. A good used compressor is winging its way to me from Neo Brothers as I type this. In accordance with the state of the old compressor, the system's pipework will be blown through with compressed air in order to remove any debris which may have ended up inside it.

In the meantime, the replacement condenser was fitted. Just as well I bought it, as the car's existing one was in a real state:

Hopefully, the car will have working aircon by the middle of September. I'm going to persevere, as it's a keeper and as such, I want things to be in working order ;)

Congratulations Bren! 2 months early :s Christ, my 8 month old was 2 weeks late and I reckon I was only just about ready by then - at two months early I think I was still thinking very hard about what kind of pram I should maybe, possibly buy and planning my next few nights out.

Great news, enjoy it!

Congratulations Bren!. We had our 20 week scan this afternoon, I'm getting very excited now!

Ugh. Bus duty today and visiting friends mean no progress on the Dyane. In other news, the XM hit 127,000 miles yesterday. Another 700 and it'll be 10,000 since purchase in October. Not bad for someone who works from home, and rarely keeps a car for longer than a few months. And I still like it!

Rovers have been moved to new area. They all run and drive surprisingly including the broken engined G-reg Sterling. They will be outside for a while but I really need indoor storage as the ground is mixed cement/mud.

KV6 has been insured and is in for MOT on Thursday next week, so hopefully I'll have a car by Friday next week, great car to be driving again. Bloody expensive day though and enough travelling but at least it's sorted for now.

Just remembered too; Seemingly the Rover gods have been giving me 'signs'. Today on my way to the train station, I spotted an R-reg Sterling fastback, then later on, whilst both my Mk2s were being transported, I spotted a Silver T-reg Sterling containing an older couple who also spotted my cars!

Yep, I think it's time the KV6s tyres saw the road again, it is a beautiful car.

The Pug 205 automatic that I bought in April this year continues to charm me, despite minor coolant leakages.  I've done over 4,000 miles so far.  Yesterday, and again today, a warning light came on for about 15 seconds when driving.  The first time it happened, I stopped in a layby to study the lit up symbol.  It looked like an engine with an arrow pointing to the crank pulley. I had not a clue what this was trying to tell me (the owners manual was at home, of course). The car was driving perfectly normally and restarted without a problem - the warning light went off, so I continued with my journey.  Further trips yesterday were conducted without warning lights.  Today, it did much the same.  Everything under the bonnet looks normal, all levels are correct and the car drives fine.  I've decided that the warnings were just attention seeking.  It is a French car, after all.  An Italian car would not show any warning lights but would just stop and refuse to go, usually at a busy junction, so I'll excuse Frenchness for the moment.  Oh, the manual said the warning light is 'Catalyst/diagnostic.'  Good.  Whatever that means.  Should I be worried?

Whoever tried to open the n/s/sliding door with a garden wall says different. I'm waiting (make that praying) someone can tell from the shitty engine photograph if this likes a drop of Crisp N Dry or not.
