The new news 24 thread

This isn't really worthy of the grump thread as it's more an acceptance of reality.

I'm going to have a major scale down of my shite. Like most people in the western world i've got thousands of pounds worth of debt (high four figures), i've also got thousands of pounds worth of cars and parts ( mid - high four figures).

I work 6-7 days a week, mostly 7, so any spare time i have i really CBA spending mending/fettling my own cars (i'm a panel beater by trade)

Plan is to get rid of the cortinas' over the next couple of weeks, as well as all the parts.

I've been trying to do this for about six months now.  With very limited success.  Every time I manage to sell something, some bastard fails to outbid me on eBay so I end up with something else.

Just scrolled by the Woollarding thread. Thought about Woollarding the new project. Startled the cat with involuntary evil laugh.

That Hotchkiss is gorgeous, how on earth could it cause the demise of anything?

Been doing some more work on Flora McCamper (nee Luxurious). 1990 Talbot Express 1300D - grandad of the A-Classes.

New carpet fitted from the front seats backwards and also decided to replace the gearbox mount whether it needed doing or not.

Last month an all singing all dancing rearview camera was fitted and while it was a PITA to fit - picture quality is really quite good.

We're off to Slippystone one week today for the British Moto GP. Give us a wave.

Had an appointment with an ENT consultant today.

I do not have polyps or a deviated septum - he thinks I am allergic to something as my sinuses were badly inflamed. My poor breathing and coughing shite up was a bronchial infection caused by my sinuses.

He blasted something up my nose that tasted like shit but left me feeling like this -

Got a fresh 12 months ticket on the Escort today. All it required was a session on the Terraclean machine to sort the emissions and jobs a good 'un.

Took delivery of The Saab's new alloy wheels today. They look splendid:

Now to find a tyre fitter in the Southend-on-Sea area who will fit the car's existing tyres (three month old Falkens) to the wheels without messing up either.

What, that machine does something?

I thought it was like a snake oil injection pump or something.

I have to admit I was skeptical at first but it really seems to have sorted the emissions out.

Did it involve holding it at a fast idle for a while?

I'm not too sure how the process works to be honest. I saw it in action briefly on Wheeler Dealers once, read some reviews and it seemed like a decent option.

I must admit I'd never heard of it, but I went on their website, clicked on the "How TerraClean Works" link...

TerraClean is a technology developed by a group of scientists in Canada. They were commissioned by the Canadian government to develop a zero emissions engine. They did manage to achieve this goal, but the technology involved and the fuel used to achieve this would necessitate an increase to the price of the vehicles, due to the need to retro fit a "reactor" which molecularly alters the state of the fuel. That increase in cost coupled with the cosof the highly refined fuel, developed for the project, which would retail at over £ 40 per litre rendered the concept non-viable to introduce into the cars motorist drive.

All such engineering projects demand close attention to the condition of the test vehicles being used. The engineering inspections carried out in this project clearly demonstrated that the process was not only not developing carbon build up, usually associated with all internal combustion engines, in fact it was removing pre-existing carbon previously built up in the engines as well as other deposits which usually build up particularly from use of lower grade/quality fuels.

So whilst the Zero Emissions vehicle project was set aside the technology was taken in a different direction and the concept of TerraClean Decarbonisation equipment was developed. This has proven very successful with over 13,000 machines in operation in the North American market, mainly in franchised dealer workshops. Whilst quite new to the UK marketplace already the technology is proving its value to private owners and fleet operators alike, who are both saving money by reduced fuel costs and lowering their emissions. Essentially by taking a vehicle back to its level of cleanliness not long after being new the efficiency and performance are improved.

So if you have not already done so, use the simple link to the right, instantly identify your local Service Agent and take the first step to improving your vehicle today.

and now I'm completely* convinced.

I'm skeptical about Terra cleaning. I know Subaru fans like it, but I'd be worried about 50k of crud being set free around the engine, and all those little seals that are held together with crud having the crud removed.

I'm sure it's fine if done regularly from nearly new, it quire probably helps. Would I rinse out my 187k mile Merc? No.

Terra clean is the high tech Redex, I remember going overboard with redex in my old SD1 V8 poured some down each cylinder, then more down the carbs, and chucked the rest in the fuel tank,

Took some time to start but by fuck when it did......I think Gordon Honeycombe on da News at ten reported a Volcano erupting in Walsall - I pretty much covered the whole of the Delves in smoke for over an hour

Just had a bash on the MOT history checker for the CRV, and theres only 3 tests listed (06, 07 and 08). I'm sure I;ve used the web thing before on one of my cars and got loads of results back. Is this normal? Would expect to see the tests from 09, 10, 11 12 and 15 on there...

Off to Anglesey then, in the XM rather than the Dyane. However, I have been promised another go in the BMW 2CV. Should be fun.

You can follow the race here: http://2cvracing.org.uk/24hrlive- race kicks off at 2pm Saturday.

I'm crewing with team Blueberry Muffins.

Are you using the latest MOT cert number? If you put in the 08 one it would only give history to 08.

Also, there has been talk of recent shenanigans in the doovla system so could be related to that.

The mileage report on the MoT cert has gone iffy as well - I tested a car on monday that only gave the mileage for tests in 2013 and 2012 even though I know I've tested this car every year for the last five years.

Also - contingency rules again today, fourth day in a row! YAY FOR VOSA!!!

Talking of MOTs my shoddy old Mercedes got a fresh ticket this morning.

TFFT!

Top tip. While the system is cooked find a garage that does 8am tests. That seems to be the only way to get the test in the system.

previous colleague of mine is manning the phones for doovla in case there are problems with the new MOT system. Apparently they're a bit busy..

In other news, I've almost driven to Wales and will hopefully driving a different car home. Tomorrow.
