Just had a nice hoon in the Nippa, blasting past the 40mph-everywhere tourist brigade. Gosh the roads do get clogged up at this time of year. Like the 2CV, you really do have to plan your overtakes in the Nippa - and you simply don't try an overtake uphill.

I really should have tried harder to sell the Merc, as now the MOT is due, so I've just been to drop it off at the garage. After dropping off the Merc I brought the Aerodeck back and that is completely different but also a really nice drive. Yesterday I was out in the Sera and that drives nicely as well. I really need to cut down numbers but I like them all. I'll keep them all for now and see how things are in a few weeks  ;)

That's a good idea,

in a couple of weeks you will probably have a few more cars to choose from.

Fronts will be done at a later date. I have no idea whose the Kia Sportfridge is, some twonk parked it outside our house and fucked off visiting someone else before I got up.

Shite karma at work:  fixed the clutch on the Rover, but the Renault failed to proceed when due to chauffeur us to a posh dinner last night.  Most likely only a lack of volts in the battery, though, I think, as it's only done two short journeys in the last 6 weeks.  Didn't have time to faff around jumping it, but the battery is now on charge.

I gained a bit more space in the garage today.

I purchased a Thundercat from madmopedracer for a mate who's 500 was on it's last legs. I  so enjoyed riding it back from Glasgow I was secretly hoping my mate would change his mind and not have it. But he didn't, and rode it off on it a couple of hours ago, pleased as punch with "his" purchase!

The Cagiva Planet I purchased from Wuvvum looks like it is on it's way from my brief ownership. I really like it, it's a bit of a hooligan bike and sounds great. My great-nephew turns 17 in a few months and wants a physically large 125, and the Planet is ideal for him. He wants something he can tart up and (more importantly) strip and rebuild (he has already done his moped) so how can I not sell it to him, as it needs some cosmetics tidying, and a bottom end noise investigating.

On top of which it was cloudy enough to give my Mercedes a good wash and wax. Lovely.

I just bought something. It may well be either the most exciting or insane thing I've ever done. But hey, it ticks two boxes on my car ownership. More when I sort out the collection side of things!

^^ I know what it is, I know what it is, I know what it is. Not telling though :)

I did a bit of bodywork on the Transit today.

One of the rear doors had blisters appearing along the bottom edge. I gave them a scrape and prod with the trusty screwdriver and sure enough the two biggest blisters turned into holes.

Flashing the grinder over it all revealed loads of little rusty pits and little holes. These were all fairly close together so I just cut the whole piece out.

The door frame and bottom edge of the skin are ok so just had a good clean up with the grinder to get rid of the surface rust, then a coat of rust converter on top just to stop it coming back. then a small rectangular panel was made up and butt welded in using overlapping spots to keep the heat down and avoid distorting the door skin.

image.jpg5_zpsy2ccd3em.jpg

Then cleaned back with the grinder to get a nice smooth panel.

image.jpg7_zpsczvpzdkv.jpg

Finally for today, it was given a skim of filler, rubbed down with wet and dry and finally given a coat of primer.

Not a bad little job, but took a bit longer than I thought, so ill have to finish rubbing down and painting tomorrow. Once that's all done the inside will be pumped full of Bilt Hamber Dynax S50 cavity wax so the rot never returns! Strangely this is the only rot I can find on the van, the other doors and lower panels all seem ok.

It has been Ziebarted from new, which will of helped it stay in good condition but it did cause a few small fires during welding!

And yes, that is a copy of the daily fail being used for masking and no its not mine! It was taken from a bin at work specifically for this job!

That looks like a great job.

Talking of your Daily Fail though, what was the story about Doctor Who being on trial for killing somebody's mother?  Weird.

Fuck knows!? I just tried to read it, it said something about him being in Pakistan!? Typical bollocks story to fill pages. I can't even be arsed to read it properly.

I'm glad it's not just me who reads masking up newspapers

Fitted a solar panel kit to my camper at the weekend, really easy to do - its as straightforward as connect red to red, black to black. In the words of Doc Brown "It couldnt be simpler!"

The only critical extras needed were sikaflex 512, crimp terminals for the battery end of the wires & an inline fuse for the positive wire.  To keep the install tidy I also made use of some trunking, insulation tape, cable ties & cable clips that were already in my tool cupboard.

The scariest bit of the project was drilling a hole in the roof. I got a weatherproof junction box to protect this, but its overkill if I'm honest. A grommet & plenty of sika is all thats really needed.

All in it took about 3 hours to fit, with a lot of tea consumed in the process, so it wouldnt surprise me if the less ham fisted/thirsty could fit it in less than an hour.

Panel & junction box bonded to the roof (gave it a good scrub first & then cleaned the surface with alcohol to ensure a strong bond)

PWM control panel fitted in overhead cupboard closest to leisure battery & wiring from panel trunked. Wires to battery clipped down:

Wires to battery ran in trunking from overhead cupboard down to seat & through to battery that currently lives under drivers seat. I have future-proofed here, so if I get a bigger battery/fit a bank of batteries then the fuses & connectors will fit through the big hole I drilled!

I´ve attended a classic car meeting yesterday. Yes, in my Pajero:

dscn3878.jpg

Reactions from other people where very different.

Some people admired it because of it´s almost-like-new condition, many children liked it and even took pictures of it because "it´s so big" and "it looks so cute".  :?

But of course there where people complaining, like "it´s not a classic car" and "I wonder why this heap is here too" and such nice comments.

So my conclusion after the first attended classic car meeting in the Pajero is divided. I liked the way many children liked the Pajero as an uncommon car at such an event. But I feel a bit angry thinking about the negative comments from some older people.

Btw: There was a Golf 3 Convertible, some Mazda MX-5 and even a Mercedes-Benz C200 Diesel (W202) there too.  :?

I wouldn't worry Lukas. A friend was at a classic meet in Cambs recently and had folk complaining that her Dyane isn't a classic car. FFS...

Anyway, it's a lovely day. The XM has been working hard.

I was at a show yesterday too. Many folk saying rude and negative comments about folks cars. What ever happened to "if you can say anything nice say nothing at all"?

If you've got a thick skin, it can be amusing to stand just slightly away from your own car to hear what folk say about it. Mostly ammo for the Bullshit thread.

I realise it's a typo, but isn't this the problem? People relish being unpleasant so that's all they do, they keep the nice comments to themselves.

There's a lot of classic car snobbery at shows, so they're really something I want to distance myself from.

The time we took a Renault 18 GTD, a Proton MPI, a Datsun Stanza and a Volvo 360 to a classic car show was a laugh.

A guy in an Anglia 105e reversed his car so that FOAD's proton wasn't in any pictures.

You've got to laugh though!

I'm looking forward to parking the P38 at Chumley and listening into the comments/helpful suggestions come flooding in.......

Might even run a book on how many times "is it on springs?" gets asked

Ha ha! When the R8 was celebrating 35 years (I think) I took my R10 to a Renault Owners Club meeting at Beaulieu. There was a long line up of R8s/R10s for a photo shoot. Needless to say, my car was on the end of the row and was cropped off the photo that appeared in the magazine :)

Here's what the readers all missed out on...

I think I see more 105e's than Proton Mpi's. Will be even less of them by the time they get to the Anglia's age.

Maybe I should speak my inner monologue at shows. "Oh gawd, not another bloody Morris Minor/MGB/Mini."
