Neither I nor Old Man can weld (he's an aircraft engineer, he's all rivets and fiberglass  ).

It's perfectly circular and doesn't appear to be damaged.

Won a shonky little trailer on the Bay. 'Snot too bad for fifty seven pictures of the queen!

Replaced the front pads on the Rover today, it repaid me buy dropping the guts out of the cat, which is now partially blocked.

Fucksakes when do I get my Cabrio? I am looking forward to raffling this grumpy little bastard now.

Hole.

Vag inline gearboxes used to have a fill plug like this post-17481-0-67789800-1436906141_thumb.png If your plug is threaded it might be possible to tap it around with a chisel or hammer a spline key into it.

Is any of it poking out? I got the finally rounded sump plug that id told myself 4 oil changes ago to renew out of the meriva with mole grips around the round head that sat proud and a tickle with the lump hammer

Then put a new sump plug in...

Is flying dales the American site? Or is that menwith?

Ps ignore spelling, it's the damned iPad correct.

RAF flyingdales is an american site, with american personnel.

it will give us 3 minutes warning, the USA will get i think 25.

as well as the radar station there is a completely self contained "town" with bowling, a cinema and sports facilities.

I think it's going to be a WD40 and chisel job somehow, if we had a welder I'd be putting a nut on it. I don't think Old Man has any intention to buy a new diff plug though.

I ordered a new set of pre-2001 'plates for his birthday today, and I'm going to get him a nice Audi keyring of some sort too. He's really pleased with the A4, we've been doing little jobs on it nearly every day since we got it.

Hole.

not the level bung?? Get that out and either a spring will pop out and hit you in the face or a shaft will drop into the bottom of the box...........

Is there any way to make yourself remember to change the number plate on the trailer you're towing?  Brother pointed out to me last night when we were putting the trailer away that it's wearing the plate of Dad's no-longer-on-the-road Omega which is a very different car to the Xantia.  It's not the first time I've forgotten to sort out the plate either; when we collected the Renault I only remembered to even put a plate on the trailer after driving for 20 miles and even then it was because Mike asked if I'd done it.

Boring turbo replaced and now running well.

There was a running issue that was there before the turbo went, which has now been fixed. It was either a slight blockage in the fuel system or cat ... anyway some fuel system cleaner and a good thrash down the local disused airfield and the boring is pulling all the way to 5k.

Yet another mega-mile family visit tomorrow in the XM. I think I might have a go at finding that bloody annoying rattle in the driver's door. Otherwise, it'll ruin my enjoyment of Test Match Special (where I can actually get it. Snapping the aerial off isn't helping!).

I can indeed!

ah the joys of having the original large file on me phone;)

Spotted a recommendation in Classics Monthly about the Silverline 260w Silverstorm Belt File/Sander. I've ordered one as my B&D one is getting on a bit and the Silverline one appears to be pretty adjustable.

I ordered via www.mpdirect.co.uk and including delivery and all that it came to a few pence over 30 quid which is a bargain compared to the cost of the B&D one.

These are great bits of kit and I would highly recommend one whatever flavour.

Booked The Saab in for an MOT on Monday, the day that the car's current test runs out. What could possibly go wrong?

Just got the merc back- really nice job. Blended the colour in well but had to paint the o/s body from bumper to windscreen as it had been done before and the lacquer was starting to peel off.

They've finished the arches like merc did with stone chip to the exposed base.

Within estimate too and not vat registered so happy all round!

After a year of owning it I finally got round to changing the aerial base. Obviously being French they had to make it far more fiddly than it needed to be be securing it with a 22mm nut positioned just ahead of the space for the interior light so you can't get a socket on it

Whilst waiting for an exhaust supplier/hoarder in Barnsley to check his stock in multiple warehouses for a complete system for my 1988 Stellar, I had a go at repairing the rearbox fractured entry pipe and hole.  Using a section of old rotary washing line centre tube which I had stored for 15 years, I sleeved the inlet pipe and secured it in position using JB Weld.  JB also plated the hole on top of the box.  I let it cure for about 20 hours, then yesterday forced the sleeved section in to the section of exhaust pipe just after the curved 'over the axle' section.  There was just enough straight exhaust to insert in to and clamp using a standard exhaust clamp.  Today I have driven the Stellar for about 30 miles and confirmed that the bodge has fully restored quietness. If a new exhaust is found, I'll only fit it when the bodge expires.

seems like a lot more work than the standard bodge

I'm going to be taking an air chisel to the Rover's cat tomorrow since it's dropped it's guts and rattles like a bastard now.

I would have done it that way, but mine had fractured where the pipe is welded to the rear silencer, leaving just a jagged hole with about 2cm of pipe inside the silencer.  The stored bean cans are in stock nevertheless :-D .

Bought myself a Kwak GT-550 at the weekend which so far I'm delighted with.

This now leaves the lock up full to bursting and SWMBO feels something must go. With a view to that before I deal with ebay are any shiters interested in a MZ ETZ 125 in mechanically good but shabby condition? Ideal for riding round on L plates looking like a boss...
