Heading home and suddenly the coolant temperature goes through the roof. Can't see anything in the dark and rain but it appears the rad is leaking in what is now my only form of transport a few days after I crocked my knee making it hard to walk even a short distance

Erm, shit

Posted

I'm hoping it's a small leak that's been going over several days but will need to wait until tomorrow to have a proper look. Does anyone have any experience of K-Seal? I'm thinking that as long as the coolant isn't pissing out I should be able to fill it with enough liquid to get down to the nearest factors

Check to see where it's coming from first,  if it's a hose then k-seal isn't going to be much help.

What about the Ital van Trig?

I'm still waiting on that one. I spoke to him yesterday about it and he said he's brothers questioning how long it would take to get a mot on it so that he can get the plate off but that will never happening and my mate needs it out of the way so I'm playing the waiting game on that for the moment.

As I said in that other thread, and MOT is not needed for retention/transfer on post-1960.

But:

• The vehicle in section 2 and section 3 should be taxed. If the vehicle is not taxed you can still apply without renewing the tax if you have made a Statutory Off Road Notification (SORN). There must be no break between the date the tax run out and the start of the SORN.

• We will not accept an application for a vehicle that has been declared off road (SORN) for more than 5 years.

• The vehicle must be a testable type, subject to MOT/GVT (road worthiness test).

2 and a half hour train journey through the South West to collect a not shit 2004 Octavia estate. Can do collection thread if the interest is there...

How's the ride on that Mondeo Stuboy? There's not a lot of sidewall there.

On closer inspection the leak is coming from by the  NSF wheel, so assuming it must be a pipe but with very little access and no way to get under it I can't tell for sure. Had it running for 10 minutes and the temperature was normal but it must still be coming from somewhere. So K-Seal likely won't do the trick and nowhere else is open today, so only plan I can think of now is drive it to the garage near work on Monday morning, take lots of spare water with me, and hope it makes it. Engine seems to be running a bit rougher as well, although there's no sign of water in the coolant I hope last nights antics haven't damaged the head gasket.

Sigh. If only there were some sort of Autoshite loan car I could make use of..............

1.8t in manual flavour.

Live collection thread not going to happen due to Cornwall's terrible phone signal.

After being inspired by semi-c's cortina interior at shitefest, ive ordered a set of tiger print seat covers to hide the mis-matched seats on the mk2 granny.

Can we have more details as an Octavia of that vintage is on my want list?

I've spoken to the owner of the Cortina I spoke about. It's a Mk5 1.6 Ghia in met. Blue, low mileage but been in the garage at least 10 years as he said it was too expensive to use due to the unleaded fuel. It has full history including bill of sale but hasn't ran for years.

I'm of to view it tomorrow morning. Excited Face.

I thought this Cortina was too good to be true. The owner has just been down his lock up and some cunt has nicked it. I'm gutted now.

Bugger, I'd better retract my 'like' now.

That really sucks about the Cortina, thieving mother fuckers!

Did a full service on my sisters 54 plate Fiesta 1.25 today. Dead easy apart from the pollen filter up behind the centre console under the heater. Why cram it in there FFS!? It's not the worst one I've ever changed, some really are bastards to get to but why not copy the Focus and put it under the plastic cover under the windscreen, nice and easy to get to. Instead I had to lay uncomfortably in through the door, struggling with tiny torx screws that some baboon has massively over tightened!

Now that's done and out the way it's Capri cleaning time later this afternoon when the sun goes down a bit.

That's a real ballbreaker about the Cortina. What a bunch of wankers.

I'll do a full update when I get back.

It has the most extensive Halfords history for 80k I've ever seen. It also appears to have had the clutch replaced three times and a non-existant dual mass flywheel twice.

Gutted trig. Sounded " too good to be true" Feel deflated here, I pictured you recomissioning a beauty, 1.6 Ghia too. Scumbags.

Posted

I know. I'm proper disappointed. The owner was too when he rang me, I suspect it's ended it's days on the track unfortunately.

Try a Volvo v50 or new shape focus . Gotta take the fuse box out ffs

Let chompy drive the Xantia last night so he could see how much better it is, which turned out to be lots.  Today we got in to go to the unit and it won't start.  The glow plug light won't illuminate and given the funny problem I was having it's likely to be a dead relay or (less likely) the glowplugs have died.

Got a little bit more done on the Princess, might be going back later tonight to finish off what we started.

That boy really is cursed,  hope it's an easy fix.

I've spent this afternoon cleaning the Pride. That makes me feel all wrong after running Volvos into the ground for years and years. I may even cable tie the wheeltrims on.

Also I just noticed it has Unipart 1100/1300 front floor mats. Might ebay those and recoup the cost* of the car.

Cleaning must be catching . My starlet loaner got a wash , Hoover and I even wiped off the interior and cleaned the door shuts .

It's ok. I've done absolutely chuff all, though it has rained. Therefore, the cars have hopefully been cleaned by nature.

FINEST SCRAPYARD PARTS.  Second-hand glowplug relay bought for £9.99 delivered (new one is £40, I'm chancing a second-hand one will be fine).  Given that the relay was making a clicking noise and you could feel it through the casing when it was playing up I think it's fair to say that's the item that's failed.  Just got to wait until Wednesday for it to arrive so I'll be borrowing Nugget in the meantime.
