Saw this the other day. Made me chuckle. It's nearly news.

I've bought one so we'll see what happens. Given their entire device setup is engineered around the iphone specifically you have to presume they've at least tried it*.

Do report back - sounds like a great little tool, if it's not total balls...

good idea!!!! You can be like these clowns who fill up facebook with automatically-uploaded details of where theyve just been for a run, how long it took and what their average speed was. AHEM! LADS - NO-ONE GIVES A SHIT.

Lobbed the new brake cylinder 'thing' onto the Corsa (B) today, only minor swearing/fiddling about and it was jobbed. Brakes bled, test drive taken (with Mozart usurping Neil Diamond in the cassette stakes) and all seems well. 'New' wheeltrims fitted, interior hoovered out and a quick wash has it looking pretty good. Have a boot full of dodgy cassettes to listen to/throw out of the window tomorrow on way/back from Cholmondeley, and like a right sad bastard I'm going to polish the door shuts again. Oh, 'Autoshite' dealer stick in back window too.

Half hearted look taken at replacement Corsa © exhaust which arrived yesterday, old one decided to play silly f*ckers and will want taking to the garage to remove so we sacked that off.

Went down to Essex with a mate to pick up a van for his new business venture, so I got to drive his Merc back, 1996 pov spec c180. I was pleasantly surprised how nicely it drove, I may think about a diesel one for daily use.

Took the Alfa to the garage this afternoon to give it once over before tomorrow, oil was a tad low, so I topped up. On the run home oil pressure still seemed to be a bit low, I'm not feeling too confident about the run over tomorrow :?

Found some time to do a few jobs on T25. Finally fitted the reversing sensors. Work really nicely and help with parking the old bus. Fitted the new bumper cap to the rear to make it look nice. Painted the grease caps on the rear wheels. Once dried will bung them back on.

Going to try an MOT tomorrow morning to see if it needs anything.

Jobs left are;

clean inside

get rid of mildew on canvas top

Finish mopping drivers sides

then do pics and get it up for sale.

On other hand I have been offered a free Multiplier although it failed MOT on PAS. Will have to have a look to see what goes wrong with them to see if it is worth fixing.

I bought a new pushbike today, after the cheap Chinese mountain bike I bought secondhand from Cash Converters for £39.99 a year ago finally gave up the ghost. I'd already determined that I wasn't going to buy another cheap mountain bike - for one thing I have no need of any off-road ability on a bike and those fat knobbly tyres increase rolling resistance no end; for another thing cheap mountain bikes all seem to weigh about three quarters of a tonne, and a lot of them have "suspension" which is so crap that it's really not worth having. The other bugbear is that they all seem to have ludicrously small crown wheels (if that's the correct term?) on the front derailleur, which results in them being very under-geared on the road.

I did contemplate getting a decent bike from Halfrauds under the "ride to work scheme", which is a finance scheme which takes payments from my pre-tax pay packet every month, but I wasn't hugely impressed with the range of bikes on offer in there - most of the range was either mountain bikes or racers, and the few hybrid bikes they did have were either cheap and rubbish or too expensive. So I ended up going to Wilcos and spending £129 on a bike they had on special offer in there - it's steel framed so not the lightest thing in the world, but it has full mudguards, luggage rack, nice narrow tyres, and it's an 18-speed with Shimano mechanism so should be a bit more reliable than the cheap plastic Chinese tat on some of the bikes I looked at, and the gearing is pretty sensible too. And it's a 22" frame so big enough for my lanky form - on my last bike I always felt a bit like I had my knees round my ears.

The idea at the moment (although whether it'll come to anything or not remains to be seen) is that I'll cycle to work when the weather and the time I manage to drag myself out of bed permit. I already cycle the last 3-4 miles or so as I can't park at work, so I dump the car at the garage and cycle the rest of the way. Hopefully having a decent bike will allow me to cycle all 15 miles on an occasional basis. I do sometimes cycle into Norwich anyway - usually when I need to bring a car home on a Sunday when there's no buses - using the old Raleigh Pioneer I've had since I was 13, but that's getting a bit tired now and I also don't like leaving it anywhere as I'm quite attached to it and would be gutted if it got nicked. I do enjoy the ride when I do it though, although whether it'll be as enjoyable on a week day at rush hour remains to be seen...

Wuvv, how bad are the cheap Halford's one please? I also fancy the cycle to work scheme and pissing about on my lad's full suspension 50p Chinese shit thing is a nightmare. Only looked at the Halford's ones on line but guessing the £120-ish ones are just rubbish.

Looking at the hybrids they had one for about £140 and one for £180, both of which looked pretty rubbish and also had the gearing issues that the cheap mountain bikes have, plus they came withouth mudguards and luggage rack. There were some which looked pretty smart but started at about £320 - more than I was prepared to pay. They did have some half-decent looking mid-range mountain bike though - but I'd decided right from the start that I didn't want a mountain bike. Basically, from what I could see, pretty much everything made by Apollo was tat - the Carrera stuff looked a lot better. In fact a lad I work with has just bought one of the £330 Carrera hybrids through the scheme, and it looks pretty smart - he bought a load of other stuff at the same time (helmet, lights, lock, mudguards etc) and the whole lot is costing him about £40 a month, which I suppose isn't too bad but still more than I'd want to pay for a bike.

They'll be the chainrings  and yes, they stopped making cranksets with decent PCDs a long while ago. If you're using it mainly on-road, you can easily get semi-slicks for wider rims which should make it much nicer to ride.

FWIW, I wouldn't buy a bike from Halfords on the same principle that stops me buying car parts from them - you're better off finding a friendly local independant shop, although they're getting rarer now.

Cheers. Fully agree about mountain bikes too, far too much hard work for my liking. We've got 'Trek' bikes for use at work and to be fair they do seem bloody well built but we we're told they were over five hundred quid a throw. Spending that sort of money on a bike just seems mental tbh, though I expect if you were using it every day to commute etc it'd be worth it for something well built.

I think I'll just carry on arsing about on my lad's bike for now, at least because it's quite new the rear shock isn't stupidly bouncy just yet even though the sodding bike is too small.

Hi folks

Decided last week that I have been lurking on here far too long and that I must contribute something of "value". The desire to own a 190E never materialised - however I'm sure that this top buy makes up for it. Picked it up today for pennies, 2 owners from new, the previous owner was a work colleague for the past 10 years and this was his daily driver up until retirement in December 2011

Brace yourself, it's only the 1.6 cat (78 BHP!) and it drives beautifully. Just needs a nice deep clean and polish :P

That's some way to make an entrance there, walk. Veddy, veddy nice.

Thanks - we aim to please! Keep your eyes peeled, I'll be posting up loads more where that came from.....

Halfords 'Apollo' range is pretty crap but the 'Carrera' range are very good bikes and great value, especially if you can pick up a discounted run out model.

It's usually better to just buy a better quality used bike from ebay or the local paper than buy cheap supermarket bikes.

Chain Reaction often have good deals too:

I bought a pretty much unused Carrera XC Kraken summat or other for £100 last autumn. Chap had bought it on a "bike2work" type scheme then got a puncture in the first week and reverted to the car while the bike sat in the shed.

It's not bad at all. Hydraulic disc brakes seem like major overkill until you actually try 'em.

Lovely Dedra there sir.

As I'm sure you're aware they're Tipo based (like a lot of Italian cars af the time) so it should handle very nicely, even if its not the quickest around.

YAY, another Dedra! Welcome aboard!

Here's mine, acquired back in November last year and shortly to get some quality attention to free it from its long slumber:

It's a Turbo SE - on the left you can see its 2.0ie barn-mate (not mine). Yours will give me something to aspire to.

Are you bringing it to ShiteFest? Lots of Lancia action to be had there.

Spent yesterday doing a carboot sale over in Chichester, I was getting rid of some of the stuff from my grandfathers house who died at the end of last month. I took the Rebel van and couldn't believe how much interest it generated. Loads of people came over to discuss it and people even wanted to buy it  I even had an offer to do back to gelcoat respray on it for £1200 which I thought was pretty reasonable.

Today I drove the Scimitar over to lancing for an auction viewing day and despite the heavy rain, the lack of a brake servo (disconnected due to a fault) I Had an enjoyable drive. I got home to discover a tiny leak in the windscreen rubber, ending my belief that I owned a Scimitar which didn't leak!

Feels like its been a long time since I've managed to do anything productive on the cars, Its frustrating that no progress has really been made on the Rebel saloon in the last 6 months. It is still waiting for its paint job which is very much weather dependent. There has been some progress on the engine build though as a set of Hepolite Pistons and liners arrived in the post today which means that work on the engine destined for the saloon can now begin. It would be nice to think that it could be ready for use by mid summer.

An old friend has returned. A Shiply bloke has promised never to return to Wales again.

She's seriously grubby. Fuel filler neck is not entirely attached, so she's been leaking diesel. That's on the urgent to do list, along with the front wheel bearing.

559593_10150957711248200_640023199_11931220_1192402926_n.jpg

The bodywork has deteriorated somewhat. I never used to be able to get my fingers through the rear wing like this...

536390_10150957711703200_640023199_11931223_1043307105_n.jpg

Once the wheel bearing is done, she desperately needs a service. She's not entirely happy starting or at idle - I suspect a clogged fuel filter, especially as she's been run on chip fat. The fuel gauge doesn't work, but I risked a trip to the local fuel station (4 miles away) to make sure she's not empty. She's really rather smooth and pleasant even with her issues, reminding me just how dreadful the Mk1 is. Nice to have something to aim at! The engine is much quieter in the Mk2 than the Mk1.

After seeing Catsinthewelder's example I seriously want a BX dizzler estate! Wife randomly hates them though.... I may have to operate the wife override function soon.

Left the Princess on axle stands at my parents' place after we ran out of light and patience. My reversing lights now work, and my new steering gaiter is fitted. We've also fabricated a new bracket for the exhaust, but that's as far as we got because we found out the exhaust needs dropping and refitting again. Got a lift home from my housemate and I'm pretty tired. Today's jobs were less than friendly and took from 4pm until 9pm.

My dad took my Astra Estate to it's fate, £150.00 better than dealing with the cheap car idiots I suspect by trying to sell it.
