Suzuki Swifts still have conventional autos (as in not automated manual or DSG like most small cars).

Posted

I think the Swift was dismissed for some reason or another, but that's a good call. It'd be very hard to fulfil the colour criteria, and impossible to get one in 3 door - Asian car manufacturers won't spec a car to your liking, and they seldom offer 3 door autos.

Not bad on principle, though. Will suggest.

FFS Old Man!!

Just had a closer look and the Focuses we'd be looking at are all Durashift - (electric clutch) - 2007 facelift took out the 'normal' 4 speed.

Square fucking one.

Anything goes.

Got the Forester back this evening.  Turned out it was blowing (amongst other places) from part of the (rather complex 'cos flat 4) manifold, before the turbo - so I'd been losing a fair bit of boost as the turbo was effectively only being spun by two cylinders' worth of exhaust.  It does seem rather livelier now - lively enough in fact to spin up all four wheels on the (slightly icy) B road I opened it up on.  Even on a light throttle it seems more responsive.  It's due an oil change before I can start going out Saxo-hunting though - I've bought it a genuine Subaru oil filter, but it's going to have to make do with Tesco's own brand synthetic oil as I've got about 20 litres of the stuff and so I'm buggered if I'm going to go out and buy a big name brand - I don't think the Tesco stuff is really much different anyway.

Oh, it's also got a snapped front ARB drop link - they're plastic, apparently :? .  They don't appear to be very expensive though.

As I'm a car down at the moment, I've been using the family modern to go to work.

This is been OK in the short term as Wifey goes to work on pushbike.

However this weekend fatha-in-law is visiting so wifey wants the car Friday through Monday, I'm working all weekend so the Baur cabriolet has had to come out of winter storage.

I've had to get a puncture repaired plus an anti-freeze check, so now we're good to go.

I managed to get the Sigmund Cox 740 from Brighton to Glasgow via Chodleymong in August sans MOT.

WCPGW?

Well it went for 822 quid in the end, which was a fair bit more than I was willing to pay.  Probably a good thing.

@Ghosty:  The problem with your search appears to be parameters one "picky woman" and two "stubborn old man".  I believe if you remove these parameters your search for a solution will be relatively effortless.

Too right, Vulg. I'm just going to tell them to buy a Focus and be done with it.

If I could remove those 'parameters', I'd get a Dolomite and an Audi Coupé, and still have at least £1000 spare.

People that don't appreciate shite are boring.

I wouldn't tell them anything. They'll probably complain bitterly about whatever they end up with so you might as well remove yourself from the firing line.

Remember a while ago, I told you that I'd spoken to an elderly couple about buying their Audi 80 Sport from them if they ever got rid and they sold it to someone else for £350.

Well fuck me, here it is

£2995 - what a cheeky fucker.

I might ring him and be rude later, unless folk on here have better ideas for making him look even greedier than he clearly is.

My boss has just bought a LWB Audi A8. 4 litre v8 with twin turbos every option known to man. Originally cost more than my house, 9 months and 3000 miles later he paid significantly less than half of the original purchase price.

Someones got a sore arse.

Unfortunately it looks as if he was in the right place at the right time, that looks a right honey, everyone is out to make money and if someone buys it at that price obviously it's worth it

Aye, profit is not a dirty word.

But If the pensioners look like they have to watch every penny, I wouldn't feel comfortable doing them over.

Sounds like a company car sale / generating a business loss sale.  Anyone paying up for that sort of car as a private buyer wouldn't sell after six months unless they had had a catastrophic financial meltdown, in which case I feel sorry for them.

Good for your boss, though, to have a new car at less than half price :)

I've a feeling it was a demonstrator or something like that. I don't think it's had a personal owner.

It's obviously very plush and a very fast but it's a bit ZZzzz. It looks exactly like an A4. He had a tdv8 Range Rover before but he got sick of bits falling off it.

I don't need this, as my Dad is scrapping his 740 rather than repairing it and I just can't justify another car. Can anybody here come up with any reasons for me to buy it? It's got loads of MOT!

It's an 80s Volvo, what other reason do you need?

Also, it's an early 740, which means it's quite an oddity these days.

Buying a 740 means that any Scottish girl will instantly *drop their knickers for you.

We've all agreed we're going to get a Focus. Can't complain really.

Initial assessment of prices and comfort is tomorrow, then we'll consider if it's worth proper consideration.
