Sat in the doctor's car park, discussing the cars the doctors were turning up in:

Me: If I had that sort of money, I'd probably just get my two old cars as fixed as possible and use them.

Brother: But that makes no sense, wouldn't it be better to get the newest, safest, most fuel miserly thing instead?

Me: It doesn't have to make sense, it's what I'd do.

Also, one of the doctors got out of his Porsche and adjusted his socks through his suit trousers, as you do, but his socks came up above his knees... at least I think he was wearing socks.

Two offers on 604 tonight. One from a geezer in Gloucester who wants me to deliver it and he'll run me back home (cheaper to get the train, methinks), another from some dude who "grew up in Africa and was given a 604 by the first lady of Malawi" who's phone number is "incorrect so it's easier to contact him by e-mail.... he wants it delivering to W.Sussex....

Arrgh.

^^Some folk eh, you’d think driving a new purchase home yourself is all part of the fun.

Talking of which, this evening I met up with Campbell and his new Sherpa before the long drive home:

Seeing this lovely old thing was a right tonic after a crappy day at work. Fingers crossed he made it back without incident. I'm sure we'll be hearing more... :)

Great stuff. I look forward to the removal and crushing of those headlamp peaks.

It's slowly dawning on me that the 240 is too expensive to run as a daily. I need an old hatchback under 1500cc for the scoot to and from work. I also think I may be getting a bit bored of it?

Not wishing to teach my nan to suck eggs and all that but did the first geezer mention a deposit of some sort before you leave? I was bitten like this many moons back by some cockwad who suddenly decided the car wasn't as described and tried to knock me down on the price. Best bit was he'd already seen the sodding thing, luckily it wasn't that far away.

Not yet, I'll give him a call tomorrow and see what he's expecting. If it's miracles I'll give it a miss, if he sounds realistic then I'll chuck it on a trailer and drag it down there provided he pays the fuel money up front.

Is Station/Dave's Skoda Fellatio still for sale?

I'm not pulling them off till after the MoT!!!! But, go they will! Along with the Coupe des Alpes sticker.

Talking of MoT''s, it'll need brake lights for that - lol!

Top tip - don't download the free app sat nav and expect it to take you the quickest route out of London!

Road trip to follow.

All the best Mike, have a good un chief!

Right, the bleeding Corsa has decided to keep losing water since headgasket change. Chief suspect is the water pump so have borrowed a coolant pressure tester from a bloke who works at my lad's garage. Found a good door in the same colour from a bloke near Birmingham too who may be able to bring to Nantwich for me as well.

Oh I didn't spot that! Happy Birthday Trigger!

Happy Birthdays Trigger and Eddy...2n0iy6x.jpg 4 Cars, 20 tyres and not a single vehicle that doesn't do this! FSO is a daily flat, Xr and Samba weekly and the Monza every month or so. What to do? They all leak passed the rims

Happy Birthday, Trigger, Eddy and anyone else I missed.

My work trip to Scotland just got canned at the last minute, so I asked for the days off, which was ok'd. My first thought, the X1/9 in Preston can be mine, so I got in touch with guy but its sold all ready, I thought it was a bit cheap.

No plans for the rest of the week atm, except get the Mitsubishi road legal and think about selling the XT, SVX and Saab ... and possibly the GTA and Alfa.

I'll just say happy birthday to everyone who has a birthday in 2012. As its a leap year I am pretty sure I will not have missed anyone out.

The Austin Princess exhaust maintenance procedure:

1. You notice the exhaust is blowing.

2. You spend some time fixing this blow, all is good.

3. You drive for approx. five miles.

4. Start from point 1 and repeat until completely fed up.

Mrs the Princess's Metro is being oushed into daily service as the Rover Coupe is at the garage as the battery keeps going flat. New battery didn't fix it, nor did the starter motor (old back put back on at no cost for either). Garage now calling out an auto electrican to find out why after a 5 minutes after turning it off with no discharge it pisses its electrcity away. :(

Got a phonecall from the Wife today saying the right hand incicator on the Astra was stuck on, not flashing but constantly lit, she was at work and the battery eventually went flat. Shot down after work in the Volvo and jump started it, turns out the relay had stuck, a quick bash with a screwdriver and all was well. Nice cheap fix!

Had the same constant arse ache with my van, inner tube (and patch since) now fitted as the tyre still has many miles left and I can't find the leak for love nor money.

Sorry guys i missed this, thank you for the birthday wishes and happy birthday Eddy!

Loads more lunatics calling about the 604 today.

So far, none have actually turned up. Geezer who bid on it on eBay 'accidentally' bought a Merc 320 estate he's offered as a swap.

Not much bloody use when I could do with the cash, but hey ho.

It's still ace. 430 miles and counting. :-)

Had a phonecall from the garage yesterday evening (the garage is run by my BIL, so I get random calls and updates) and I can go and pick up the Mitsubisihi MOT cert when I want :D

It's legal, but still needs a service, HT leads, rear shocks and the belts changing, so its not ready to drive away yet.

As I've now unexpectedly got a couple of days off work I'll go round and do a couple of bits myself ... or grab the MOT cert and camp out at the DVLA office for a bit.

Would the Merc be easier to shift or fetch more money though Pete, or just another millstone?

Posted

I'd guess it depends on how much of a snotter the Merc is.

Good news! The eBay OBD2 thing works a treat.

Bad news! Camshaft position sensor fault code. Hoping it's just a glitch, or a dodgy sensor. Otherwise it's timing/chain/garage expense.
