The Frontera smells damp. Think the seats feel wet too but I can't be sure. The sunroof feels OK but I can't think it would be coming from anywhere else

I can officially reveal the latest addition to the company fleet. Non running (natch) but in superb original condition. The pick-up conversion is brilliant, you'd think it came out the factory that way if you didn't know.

Thats gr9 Barrett ... How many cars do you have now and how many actually work?

Sensational!

I'd almost say it would be a shame to polish the paint up. Wonder what the 'nord' sign is about on the front end?

I am not sure why but a lot of old commercials in france have the name of the department painted on the wing like that. My old Domaine had it, the "Nord" is the department and it still has the correct registration so has lived there all it's life. I hope it's got more legroom than my converted Hotchkiss had. That was the trouble with converting cars to pickups cutting behind the door pillars prevents the seat going back. Has it got the flat head V8 ?

Posted

Yep, it's got the 'small' flathead in. Plenty of room in the cab, the bench seat and column change help, but these things were a semi-official conversion with the blessing of Simca to use up old stock of hard-to-shift Vedettes so it's been a little better thought-out than a typical pick-up conversion. The wooden bed and canvas tilt are in perfect condition and clearly very well made.

It won't be polished, ever - maybe washed once to get the dust off, but that's it. The only thing that needs replacing is the steering wheel, which has deteriorated to an amazing degree (there is a splinter of it in my hand already) so if anyone finds one let me know...

Skattrd, my fleet is as per my sig, which is already too many. I'm hoping 2015 will be a year of rationalisation. Herald, Bonds and maybe Allegro will be going and replaced with either an Ami 6 or Panhard of some sort. Two old cars and one 'modern' is enough really.Oh, and that stupid Velo Vap thing, but we don't talk about that.

The company car pool is ever-growing, but now features:

1908 Franklin Model G

1922 ABC motorcycle

1924 Hotchkiss Weymann saloon

1925 Trojan Utility

1935 Citroen Traction

1938 Ford V8 Woodie

195? Ford Vedette Camionette

1953 Studebaker Commander Starlight coupe

1954 Lancia Aurelia B12

1955 Panhard Dyna Z1

1955 Pegaso Z-102

1955 Bradshaw Utility prototype

1957 Berkeley 328

1957 Citroen 2cv

And a Dennis lawn mower, and an Edwardian Bath Chair. Maybe a Peugeot 402 joining us soon. And we have an 'interest' in a '54 Ford Pop, English-bodied Model T Saloon, Panhard Dyna X and probably some others I've forgotten about.

That list is far too exciting.  Best company car pool ever.

You could have got halfway down that list and started inventing stuff.... "1946 Jamspoon Stupendous, 1951 Bumgrape Frightening" and I'd be none the wiser. I shall enjoy googling the whole list and then wondering how many hours are in your day that I don't get.

Formidable on the Vedette, I am surprised the Poissy Massif let that one through the tunnel especially in that originalite......Top marks!

This is where I'm going in the new year. In the 62 year old Somerset which has been off the road for two months with charging system woes.

WCPGW?

If you're going from north to south, no problem, as it's all downhill.........................

If you get into trouble around Leicester, I'll come and stand around making uneducated guesses.

I was also going to suggest the A1 rather than the M1 as a more elderly car friendly route, but then I realised I'd turned into that man in the pub that always knows a better route despite having not left the county in ten years.

M1 is quite old car friendly at the moment as its 50mph between Mansfield and Leeds.

Our works' car pool consists of an MG6, now running again after a new gearbox, clutch and ECU re-flash.

After three months and 6000 miles. QWALITY

Doing my Mark Commode bit here:

We just "watched" The Interview. I briefly fell asleep, then wakened up and had a look on here, and The Squaw fucked off upstairs after about 20 minutes to talk to her mother on the phone.

The kid singing at the start was mildly amusing I suppose.

4.1/10.

Yo shiters, I'm back - been away for a few weeks with firstly an ear infection that meant I had to lie down to avoid falling over, then working madly to catch up, then decided December was a good time to replace all the downstairs radiators which meant a week with no heating because I did it the shiter way, then working madly (away from home) to pay for new radiators.

News: Rover randomly started first time one day, without me having done anything meaningful to fix it.  BL-tastic.  Renault continues to hum along sweetly.  No other news.  Am in Germany at the moment visiting Mrs Skizzer's mother and sisters - having temporarily swapped the CFUC BMW for my former Yeti back because winter tyres - but the Interweb has now reached this far north so I'm back on line :-)

Did you miss me?  What, not even a little bit?   ;-)

PS It doesn't really get light up here so no spottage so far, except the Senator of Dreams is still around and looking mighty fine:

Not even one lonely soul out looking for battery's ?

Skizzer my sd1 did that. It wouldn't even crank . I swapped batteries, pulled the starter motor but nothing then one day I tried it and it just cranked and started. Weird. It did go on to burn out 2 starter motors in a go though .

Posted

I guess it's all part of the SD1 fun, then. Mine was cranking happily but just wouldn't fire after it hadn't run for 3-4 weeks while I was working away. Fresh petrol didn't seem to help, but I think it just eventually pumped enough through to get going.

Moral of the story: drive it more regularly. Although it's out of MOT now, of course. Need to find a shite-friendly tester locally.

I was booted from the AR Online facebook page for pointing out how unreliable our car had been.

Apparently I'm supposed to support MG Motor rather than point our particular car was a wrong 'un.

How incredibly unfair of me.
