Amen on the Harley owners. I went to Matlock with wor lass the other day, it's not amazing but a half decent afternoon was fuppin ruined by fat middle aged men on harleys revving the fuckers up for no reason and acting like teenagers all over the place. One of them even had a stereo on his bike leathering out  "livin' on a prayer" at some traffic lights, it was too sad not to laugh at really.

I must add that I've got nowt against fat middle aged men. I'm not yet middle aged but I will definitely be fat when I am. I won't paint some leathers onto myself and go terrorise a small picturesque derbyshire hamlet on a Sunday afternoon.

When us shiters met up at a service station for the Cheshire chod fest, there was a biker that turned up blasting out a similar tune from his stereo. Wonder if it's the same biker.

I am mildly astonished - I put the 323 on a local Facebook 'cars under £1000' group yesterday afternoon, came home in the evening to find a message from someone asking if they could come and see it, gave them my number, they rang to get my address and turned up within 20 minutes.  They spent a good half hour going over it, the headlights packed up due to a broken wire much to my dismay...and then they offered me £50 less than my asking price, so I'm perfectly happy with that.  They're supposed to be back tomorrow afternoon to pay up and collect it.

In further crazy, impossible selling-a-car-on-Facebook news, they turned up bang on time, were pleased to see I'd washed it for them as it was a bit minging, handed over the cash and drove away, smiles all round.  The car's off to lead a happier life being un-dented as well, always a bonus.

That, ladies and gentlemen, is how car sales should always be.

Do you live local to matlock cobblers? I only live round corner and go down quiet regular. Cant miss my scoot, silver large wheel piaggio with large screen. I found the idiots in matlock tend to be the power rangers on superbikes that like to pull away and nail it round the bend with cold tyres. Makes for interesting viewing. I know 4 Harley owners, one has no exhaust as such, just a couple of straight pipes. Other 3 are standard but still quiet loud.

No collection thread as it's prob a bit new but I saw this round the corner from me full toyota history this old bird was only selling it as she has three cars and is on her own. Pretty much mint. She spent a vast amount keeping it that way. Mine for 1400 with good tax and test should see me through winter nicely.

Dunno about that model, but my mk2 MR2 GT was pretty much undriveable in snow or slush.

That 306 is a steal BTW. Looks gr32.

They are utterly hopeless when it gets a bit slippy I'm afraid. I'd keep the 306! Almost drove into one a few years back. We were doing about 20mph and somehow it went from right next to me to sideways right in front of me in the blink of an eye! That was in light snow. Tested my cadence braking trying to avoid it!

I like that era of MR2. Am I right in thinking they have absolutley no boot at all?

On the subject of Bikes and Stereos. You are not supposed to wear headphones/in ear phones when riding or driving, methinks.

The police bikers [when I worked up at Ponteland] bought very expensive helmets... I think they had any choice for themselves, within a £limit... then they sent them off to a guy who fitted the rx/tx radio kit.

They something special, like.....

Yeah nothing, which is useful, just a couple of small cubby holes for a packet of nik naks and some choclate limes.

I used a stag last year and I soldiered on regardless, I was going to keep the 306 as well, but the owners forum reckons the mr2's can do 35-40 mpg and i only do 80 miles a week now so would not be worth it, might get some winter tyres, but its also a mega good excuse for fobbing work off, soz boss cant come in.

I suspect the Stag would be better than an MR2. The perfect weight distribution of the MR2, ie no weight over any wheels so to speak, seems to make them reluctant to behave like anything else when it's slippy. Maybe we'll have another mild winter though. I'm not planning on buying winter tyres this year, so it'll probably be sub-zero for three months.

MR2 roadsters have a space at the front big enough for a pair of supermarket bags only, but I just keep a 25kg bag of sand in there, steers a bit better with ballast.

Beyond useless in snow certainly. I failed to get up a hill near home in a May hailstorm. The culprit of course is the stupid "summer only" and over-wide tyres.

Finally (after much laziness) I have started a blog based round cars. So far so good (at least according to feedback from folks on this site)

many thanks are due to Mr D Wobbler of this parish for his insight and help.

Fuck, I've just agreed to swap a very slow car by modern standards for something that does 0-60 mph in 27 secs. ROLLING ROADBLOCK.

My mate had exactly the same as this car, his was a W-reg. Sadly he kept on having trouble with it, though he isn't a "car man" and simply ignored all the faults that started happening. It sat on drive when he ran out of money, then he got it back on the road for a few months, sat it up again for a few years, attempted to get it fixed by a dodgy mechanic who never did, it sat again for a few more years until he finally scrapped it last year.

He had a BMW 318 for few months until the engine blew due to an exploding header tank and now he drives a T-reg Corsa.

Having reached the conclusion that I'm already bored with the Rover, I'm having a seat-change in the 2CV.

The bench-with-head-restraints is coming out. I'm going to try the single seats again. The bench seems to have been weakened by the rear-end shunt in 2009 and keeps reclining. It also needs rubber hook renewal as it has become saggy. I'll see how I get on with the singles again - the main issue with these is after a refurb, they're a bit too firm so I sit a bit too high up. Might be better for my posture though...

For the first time in roughly 26 months, I have done some work on the Imp,namely a bit of grinding and a bit of welding. I've also decided that the adjustment on my auto-darkening helmet doesn't work, and have resorted to the wee hand-held one for the moment. I'm quite chuffed to be getting on with it, really.

^^^ Excellent! I actually did a small amount of work on the A55 Cambridge recently for the first time in a year, bolted some panels back on and it's starting to look a bit more like a car again. Discovered some more rot I'd forgotten about, in the rear window surround/parcel shelf and front scuttle panel, but repairing those bits will be childs play compared to the sill, floor and inner wing replacement I undertook between 2011-13. It is extremely satisfying welding up such a rotten car to a good standard, and doing it yourself is the only way to make sure it's done properly. All the rust has been cut out and replaced with flush-fitting repair sections, and where I repaired box sections I sprayed weld-thru primer liberally inside and on the back of the repair panel/patch before welding it in, something that BMC never did! Should easily last another 56 years once it's back on the road.

First day of college. Didn't do much but I'm sure that will change.

Well, the Ami went for a fair bit more than we would have paid. Probably a good thing given my perilous financial situation.

I did, however, drive the bloody Herald for the first time in more than a year. Just a few whizzes round the block to check things are as they should be, but it's made me quite enthusiastic about driving it again, I forgot how much fun is to tear about in, and I'm well chuffed by how quickly it got back into the swing of things after being sat for so long.

Annoyingly, after spending a whole day fuggin' about getting all the lights working, the other headlamp now seems to have blown its main beam bit so that's another load of dicking about before I can MoT it. Anyone got a spare one lying about?

Good stuff.  Did they teach you how to get the engine out of that Citroen Saxo?  You never* know when that might be a useful skill.

Cover the cost of postage, and you can loan the other side too ?

If that helps.

The Carina passed its MOT first time today, which was nice.  I really do think this will be the last year for the exhaust though - it's more gun gum than metal now.

I also did my first proper weldage today (i.e. doing something useful as opposed to just welding / burning holes in random bits of tin).  The two eyes that one of the sidestand mounting bolts on the Spacy go through had snapped off - I think one of them was broken before I even bought the bike, and the additional strain on the other one eventually led to it snapping.

It was a bit different to what I've been doing up to now, because a) the metal was old and shit (although I did clean it up as much as I could with a wire brush) and b ) one of the bits was a shitload thicker than anything I've played with before.  The thin bit went on OK, but it took me a couple of attempts with the thicker bit - the first time I was able to snap it off with a pair of pliers, I figured I wasn't leaving enough time for the weld to penetrate that thickness of metal, so I tried it again and it's holding so far (although I'll probably want to revisit it once I get a bit better).  It's messy as fuck to be fair, but nobody can see down there so I don't really care at this stage.  At least I can now take the bike out without having to find a wall to lean it against every time I stop.

If you're welding thick metal together then grind a lip off either bit so they come together as a V. That way the weld goes into the valley of the V so you get better penetration (ooer mrs and so on).
