Sorry for your loss angyl, my thoughts and sentiments go out to you and your family, stay strong fella

Vulg - you are the very definition of a stranger to me, and yet I've found myself extremely moved by your posts over the last few days. I think more than anything it's because the affection and love you have shines through, as does your openess and honesty.

Sincere condolences.

Car aerial tried to set the merc. on fire.

Fuse had blown when I went to it today - radio, internal lights, clock and hazard one. Traced it back to the electric motor and found this....

Now to find a new one!

Condolences to you and yours VA - nothing anyone can say can really make it better at this point and SornMe (I think it was) ^ up there pretty much hit the nail on the head when he said you don't get over it, you get used to it. Hope family and friends are finding some comfort in each other's company and the good memories and positive plans for celebrating a life rather than only mourning a loss.

Really sorry to hear your news Vulg, the donation to the intensive care unit sounds like a great thing to do, send me a link or whatever and I'll chip in a few quid, again if you need to talk about anything them give me a DM, I lost my mum about 4 weeks ago so I've been going through something similar and may be able to keep your spirits up or give you some advice. Your a complete stranger to me but I wouldn't wish the loss of a loved one on anyone + your posts on here have always been very dignified and I feel genuinely sad about your sudden loss. Hope the next few days, weeks and months are much much better for you and your family + friends

Finally had a call from "speedy" cables today they have now finished the overhaul of the fuel gauge from the Hotchkiss. Fingers crossed I will get it back in time to get it back on the road for next weekends trip to La vie en bleu. They have only had it 4 months. I now have a proper clock and a replacement dashboard so the interior is starting to look a bit better. I have missed not having a proper classic.

I've just caught up with this thread after being at Shitefest. There's not much I can do other than offer my condolences. I don't know if it's any help, but we did think about your mother when we were having a fire on Friday night.

Vulg my thoughts are with you at this difficult time.

The fire would have been met with approval, especially since at one point it looked ever so slightly out of control.  I'm actually sat working on a wonky blanket she started for one of my nephews, Mum never could crochet a square properly.  I'm preserving the wonkiness, obviously, and continuing the terrible colour theme Mum planned for it.

@LordSterling Thanks very much, means a lot, the kindness and banter on here certainly helps to keep my spirits up

The wonky ways are the best ways. Hang on in there.

If it works for you, then that's the best thing. Condolences for your loss.

I've missed out on another shitefest as i had to work. My new employer can pretty much insist on getting everyone in on certain Saturdays in order to run an extra shift.

So in order to get my shite in a field fix i headed over to Beaulieu for the spring autojumble which neither dave nor myself had been to before. Its a bit smaller than the international auto jumble in the autum but there was still a decent mix of stuff to see / rummage through / buy.

We came away with a large selection of random tat some bits intended for specific cars or projects. But others are just intented to be held in stock.

The rundown reads like this:

Crossflow gasket sets x 3

NOS SU HS2 Air filters x 2

Smiths adjustable redline rev counters x 2 (one of these will probably go on the xflow rebel)

Rare Green Washer hose x 3

1965 powder fire extinguisher,

Set of Rebel Wishbone bushes, NOS Made in england

Rebel Trunnion fitting kit,

Austin 1100/1300 overiders (factory option on rebels. But these wont be fitted as we've decided they look shit)

New Speedwell switch extensions x 4

Convex tex mirrors,

MGB filler pipes for cutting down and fitting to my van and the x flow.

Rubber surrounds for the filler necks,

Lucas switches,

Gear stick extenders x 2

Elac Speakers x 3

Lucas Reconditioned Square wiper motor for early rebel (this was £5!)

An origonal cutaway display version of the Girling mk2a brake servo (this is the one that had a design flaw which caused it to randomly lock on at junctions and traffic lights, )

Dated Goodyear ashtray,

Assorted brake pins,

Some new Sheffield made screw drivers,

Scimitar Fitment 14" Speedblade Wiper Blades x2 (these are very hard to find now)

Speedblades to be adapted to fit to the rebel saloon,

Stylex steering wheel covers,

ASM original bullet mirror,

Wipac 5 3/4 sealed beams and holders x 2

Wipac 7"  H4 halogens with holders. x 2

Motorcraft clutch kit to suit Dave's Red Rebel saloon.

Theres also a load of stuff dave took away with him which I've forgotten about.

A few photos of the tat:

I'm sorry to hear of your loss VA and hope the celebrations of your mum's life go well. It's a lovely idea and much better than just mourning a loss.

Very sorry to hear this Angyl. I can't imagine how tough this all must be so much respect to you for your strength and positive attitude.

I just had a look at a 52 plate S-Type 4.2 in resale silver for 800 quid.

It's bigger than I thought it is, with less interior space than I thought it has,

and a hilariously inadequate boot.

A lot of things made me think this could be the modern Rover P6.

Nonetheless, I was fairly impressed and actually started to like the car.

Then the bonnet was opened. I took a quick glimpse and walked away.

I'm off to Coventry shortly in my Honda Civic for some photoshoot around the university and cathedral for Classics Monthly magazine, I was quite excited to do this at first until i found out that they don't pay you anything and that it's meant to rain all day tomorrow, it's started spitting now...

I've managed to claim £50 back towards the cost of fuel which I'm not sure will cover it but i still have another £69 to pay for the hotel for the night, I'll hopefully have enough time tomorrow afterwards to get a look around the Transport museum again though.

R4 is broken - mixture screw fell out of the carb and vanished, finding a replacement seems near on impossible.

Toledo soldiers on but I'm just getting a bit sick of cars and do wonder whether I should sack them off and buy a base model Dacia Sandero. Hopefully my mojo might return at some point too.
