Anyone want a Citroen XM 2.1 diesel?

Tell us more... Is it old enough to go on a classic policy ?

1996 on an N reg, hatchback in top executive spec, MOT for about 11 months, 171,000 miles but you really wouldn't know it. Bosch pump so runs on veg. No suspension leaks, some welding was done for the MOT by me to a good standard.

I do really like it for just wafting along in complete comfort listening to Radio 4 while using very small amounts of cheap fuel but this new car is faster, and has pop up headlamps.

I'll pop up a proper for sale thread tomorrow after its had a damn good clean.

DIZZLE XM WITH A BOSCH PUMP R 4 WINNARS!

Ugh too new. Also I have no money. And you're miles away. And I prefer red. And I think one hydraulic Citroen is enough (though I did find some LHM in my garage today! Which is good, as the 2CV uses it too).

With a list of excuses like that I half expected you to end with a statement of purchasing intent.

Late last summer i probably looked on my way to a pre 68 banger meet when the bonnet flipped into the windscreen as i was bombing along and somehow avoided smashing the screen or ramming into anyone.

Got the replacment bonnet off my neighbour Steve. I decided to have some louvres let into it a bit like those offered by the jag dealers/ tuning outfit Coombs of Guildford.....

I forgot about it for a while and so did the bodyshop. Had a call that the metalwork on the replacment jag bonnet was done, so trundled down the road to Liskeard in Cornwall in to 504 to collect the panel.

Once back ive refitted it and tweaked the bracketry etc to get the fit reasonable, and at close of play today heres how she stands....

I can see it's going to be a challenge making the rest of the car look as wonderful as the bonnet. More louvres with an XK engine probably sensible!

I suggest someone with the necessary skills needs to make a BrookJM Wedding Cars poster, featuring this and the 504.

I met Brian "Gordon's Alive!" Blessed's cousin at work earlier.

That's all.

Matt black paint, roof rack, pineapples... none of these things should be applied in this instance.

As someone who used to hate white cars, I seem to have become a convert! It does seem to make DIY paint repairs and the like a bit less awkward.

On the 504 it makes the rusty water stains that dribble from the roof gutters really stand out!

Fucked up the quote a bit but, this reminds me of the time, many, many years ago 85, 86 ish, I was driving a bit of a beetle and subscribing to the us mag, VW Trends.

Obviously, I had to have louvres in my engine lid.

Puppies would die etc.

Found a bloke in Nottingham who'd do it for the right price and off I went...

1987, I'm in my prime or

A prime prick...

'What do you mean you can't do it while I wait?'

Spot the motorist that DIDN'T point at my lack of engine lid as I drove home.

Sold the car a bit later,

A bit later still, I sold the louvred engine lid for more than the car.

You live and learn.

I've been running the Marea on Stilo steels and winter tyres. I picked the alloys up today after having them refurbished. They look great 8) 8)

They will probably put the rest of it to shame... :?

I'll swap them round tomorrow. I'll take some pics. probably. :-)

My RF900 got a flying pass on it's MOT today, despite the filth covering it!

Also finished off knocking up a new rear rack for it,to replace the plywood part that was fitted to it when i bought it!

It'll get taxed asap so then I can get rid of the 306 XSi winter runabout

It actually looks quite solid. I'd love to bust out the pressure washer on that and see how it looks under all that shit. Being and old Mazda, I expect it'd still go with a little fettling  8)

Up in Scotland, that is known as a burn find.....

I am sick to the back teeth of CRAP electrical tape. I bought a roll from B&Q for about £1.49 and it was stiff as hell and had absolutley ZERO adhesive properties. It was genuinely completely useless. They must shift hundreds of thousands of rolls of a product which is utterly unusable, the bastards. Then I just tried a few coloured rolls of tape that were lying around the unit, which were slightly better but were still toss. You know the stuff I mean, as when you take the radio out of your shite you find that some doofus has used loads of this stiff, unsticky tape for making the various crummy twisted wiring joints that are popular with bodgers. Inevitably it comes unstuck and unwinds itself. Wel this time I have spent SIX WHOLE QUID on a roll of 3M 'Super 88' electrical tape which actually seems to be very sticky, quite stretchy and not ridiculously stiff. I'm almost looking forward to investigating my Seat's door wiring AGAIN with this stuff in my hand.

Tis all made in China now.

Got the screen replaced on Eddy's old Volvo so it now looks like this;

Was a bit sad to see the rally sticker depart but it should hopefully keep the water on the outside. It appears to have cured the ABS fault as well so that's a double win. Celebrated by fitting some of the bits I picked up at U-Pull It Inverkeithing, apart from the OMG VOLVO SCENETAX grille which I fitted about 5 minutes after purchase.

Todays plan of action:

Polo: Take to my mate's ace VAG specialist place in Ellesmere Port. Hopefully they'll cure the throttle body problem, hopefullier it will be something else they suggested, which is far cheaper. I need to leave pretty handy and go via the lanes with my breakdown card in my pocket and one of my bikes in the back. Just in case it 'does a VW' on me on the way.

Cavalier: Might be off to a new home.

Cinquecento: Charge the bloody battery up, pump up tyre, teach daughter to drive.

Corsa C: Charge the bloody battery up, pump up tyre, persuade son to continue with his plans to sell it to his mate.

Corsa B: pull some more silly string/grey candyfloss out of backbox. Continue to ignore the problem of (probably) disintegrating exhaust box.

A3: take to ATS, get them to examine blowing exhaust.

306: still at the MOT place, probably still untouched due to mate falling off horse syndrome and the garage being busy. No real rush now as I have a burning desire to buy something with wheels and no engine, so need the money for that. Maybe.

Possibly get another Corsa B, one can never have enough of them. It has wheels AND an engine.

Plan of action for me:

The mill stone off to a hen do all weekend so all alone! Get down to Tescos buy a crate or three of Mr. Thatchers Herbal Apple Juice, dig out various films I've not been allowed to watch ( Hunt for Red October, Star trek movies and the Godfather box set) put the local Kebeb house on speed dial ( they deliver-bonus!!) and sit down and do feck all all weekend!

Hope you have a good map! Luppit is in the middle of nowhere! Used to live down that neck of the woods and the locals can be a bit random!!

It's not far from me but it does get a bit of a nightmare in the Blackdown hills trying to find places. I have managed to lose myself quite a few times already. Good old sat nav should find it though

Head for Smeatharpe/Dunkeswell it'll be signposted from there or monkton/Upottery is the other way. Either way is O.k. Would you like a wager on whether you get lost?

I found a load more pictures here. In addition to the cars already mentioned there's a collapsed 2 door MK1 Escort, Rover 213, MK3 Cavalier saloon and a MK3 Fiesta (last taxed 2000). I'm intrigued to know if they were dumped because they were stolen or because at the time you had to pay to have scrap cars taken away.
