Have you tried buying from Yahoo Japan auctions?

Great idea :)

I have a middle man who can buy from any of the big auction sites and I've not ruled them out if I really can't get anything here. I got my mega curry mats from them and keep looking out for some antimaccassars.

In the gap between posts I found a specialist in Bristol that a friend knows who 'has a few' and can get them refurbed locally.
Apparently it's the carbon brushes that fail; Amayama spordically has stock and I can get them from the Australian specialist if I need to.

He was over recently and we stripped that white car in Windley's bare :)

Forgot to add, but Amayama parts diagrams are handy for getting the OEM part numbers in case you wanted to cross-check, e.g. the EG33D one is OEM part number 23300AA300 which does turn up results on ebay (whether you trust them is another matter) but this:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/146107868857

Claims to be the same part number and is a snip at just £70. I'm not sure what engine your SVX has though, so it might not be this exact one, but might be useful?

LOL, no, the engine was out of it years ago.

Stupidly, whoever scrapped it took the VIN but forgot that the VIN is also stamped in massive letters on the bulkhead.
Someone else then twigged, and put a punch through the generic numbers rather than the actual digits specific to the car.
Do you know its story? I don't.

You handing me that unobtanium sleeve lock regulator after a two second glance was hilarious, like that Red Dwarf episode with the luck virus.

Amayama's a great reference, saves mithering the local dealer (they love* me).

You have to go through an intermediary, I'm not sure of the exact ins-and-outs but basically they won't ship anything on there abroad any more, so you have to use (and pay for) a domestic handler who takes receipt of your goods then hands it off to DHL/Fedex/etc which adds cost and time. Not awful, but something to be aware of.

Should you have pockets deep enough, Amayama list them:

https://www.amayama.com/en/genuine-catalogs/epc/subaru-europe/svx/c11/508/engine/093

and also all the tiny components, for a more reasonable price in case you knew specifically what is up with yours and fancied rebuilding it yourself?

The link I posted is Buyee's portal, they are an intermediary; there are others. True enough about the postage/handling charges, for a starter motor the weight probably means hefty charges like £100-150.

Buyee is a bit spendy for me.

I do have a friend who gets shipments of overnight parts from Japan, happy to give him a shout if you know some part numbers.

Evans Halshaw in Northwich has closed apparently with just a days notice.

I once got an EMS package from Osaka in three days.

I reckon it must have been the last thing on a plane - that was just leaving.

I've had Royal Mail take longer to get a parcel to me in Peterborough, from Manchester.

Surprised EH are still around, no branches locally now.

They lost the Nissan franchise in the last year or so as well. I see no signs of them taking on any of the BYDs/Jaecoo/Omoda/whoever's bringing an EV over next week either.

They still have a presence round here because of a head office not far from J27 of the M1 and their training academy being at their big Mansfield Citroen site (which used to also have Nissan - fun fact, their training academy showroom used to house Citroen, and back in the day I'm sure it was the old Priory Rover showroom)

Their latest ads have been along the line of “doesn’t matter if the car is at the other end of the country , we’ll get it to your local branch”. Logical step is to go online only.

Having not seen a branch for a while I was in Motherwell and passed an EH Ford franchise.

Forgot to say that they use a CRV picnic table at Windley's for the signing-on sheets.

I caught a Fox last night and released it into my house, what a mess that was, it’s gone now through a broken window. Definitely won’t  be doing that again

Not quite as wild, but I was trying to find an AC condenser for the Mondeo a while ago. UK sellers wouldn't list the part number, had not great pics, and a 5-7 day delivery timespan. I found one in Spain where the listing included the FINIS code, lots of pictures and a drawing and came after two days - could barely believe it when as you say it can take god knows how long to get a short distance within the UK!

I had always assumed that my E46 was ULEZ compliant, being petrol and 2003, plus the gov.uk checker showed it as so.

However it doesn't cover Scotland and when I checked using the Scottish Government checker, it's definitely not compliant.

As my son has moved up to the next age group in his basketball team earlier than expected, he's now playing in a league which means , as much as I hate doing this, I'll regularly have to drive in cities when he has an away game. I had planned to use the E46 for that but now that I know it's not ULEZ compliant with the more stringent Scottish regulations, I need to make a decision. Obviously I've burst my arse and spent a small fortune on the BMW so that's not going anywhere.

The 2 Audis are too damn competent all rounders and need very little doing and the BMW is also a great fun car.

The 75 though, much as I love that car and it goes so well, needs some bodywork tidying and has just the start of a knock from the OSF suspension, so I'm thinking I'm gonna cut my losses, sell it as it is and replace it with a ULEZ compliant car, perhaps a petrol Saab 93 (I know for sure that will be compliant, having had two!)

What does your V5 say for NOX on it? Is there anything in that field?

If not then a CoC from BMW may say it's exempt and a letter to DVLA to fix it.

Edit: a quick check on eBay adverts, some 330Ci 2003/53 are, some aren't. I suspect it might be a registration issue when the dealer registered it that can be fixed with a CoC. Might even be just data in the wrong field - that was the case of my mates Mini R53.

Here's the Euro 4, which is the minimum standard for Scotland:

And here's my V5

20241022_101727.jpg.26a16cae7c9fd4216487316a5b3bead9.jpg

As you can see it's well within Euro 4.

I wonder if BMW would help?

Posted

Surely BMW don’t need to be involved there? Is there a similar thing like for ULEZ where you can send a copy of the logbook with the compliant figures and they update the DB to say your car is compliant?

I checked my dads recently departed X5 and that’s complaint. Same engine and gearbox as your 330i, and it was built in May 2003. My old 325ti is compliant too, but that’s a manual so not an apples to apples comparison.

BMW will issue a CoC, but I think they cost a bit.

Looks like it should be compliant and okay according to the V5. Maybe an email to the Scottish ULEZ scheme to ask what the craic is when it's below the limits on the V5?

https://lowemissionzones.scot/contact

It's not showing as compliant on the English CAZ checker either. There is a contact form on there which you could query too. I suspect a data processing cock up.

English CAZ contact here: https://contact.drive-clean-air-zone.service.gov.uk/

This is the Scottish legislation and it's limits according to the links from the above:

https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ssi/2021/177/schedule/2

Which actually appear above Euro 4 for CO limits. (Rest are the same)

So apparently it's a common enough thing to have a specific FAQ:

Ive sent them an email as requested. I was sure I checked ULEZ before I bought it and it was fine, the plate change will explain why.

OK, good reasons for why not to again, but why in the first place?

Sometimes things just don’t play out as you expect, you rehearse things in your mind over and over etc

Just ordered some parts for a job at work, the supplier emailed me asking if I would collect or want it put on a Karrier. Don’t think it’s a spelling mistake so assume he means one of these
