Bren Posted November 8, 2022 Posted November 8, 2022 Gave the car a wash and polish. Even did the wheels and tailpipes. And even did the glass. Probably the last time I polish it. I hope to move it on in the new year. JJ0063, Royale80, EspenO and 8 others 11
wuvvum Posted November 8, 2022 Posted November 8, 2022 Those E60s really are growing on me at the moment. I used to think they were fugly but as everything else on the road has got progressively even fuglier I'm starting to quite like them. Crackers and AnthonyG 2

Is it coupled to an auto for effortless intimidation of other motorists?

The cost was a very reasonable £1k - that price included new rocker and upper timing cover gaskets. It meant a trip to Nuneaton but nobody would take the job on nead me - 20 hours labour. It is quick. It doesn't have the low down stomp you get from a turbo diesel - you need to take it north of 3k for things to happen. After this the pull is pretty relentless - before you know it you are travelling at three figures. It was either this or a 535d. I did view a 535d but it was higher mileage and not as clean as my car. The vendor freely admitted he could only get 27 mpg out of the car and that was why it was going. Plus the diesel six pots are a bit intrusive above 3.5k rpm. Mine does low 20's round the doors and mid 30's on a run. I only put high octane fuel in it due to it's age although BMW claim it will run on the latest fuel. The best compliment I have had was from my sons ' friend who I gave a lift to - he told his father I had an electric car. stuboy, SiC and BorniteIdentity 3

I replaced the front dampers as they were shot, did the top mounts too. Not had a lot else to say about it really, it just works. I want to change the gearbox oil though.

Sounds like the perfect car for the most part.

RoverFolkUs Posted November 8, 2022 Posted November 8, 2022 Spotted a broken down car earlier. Except it was fresh from Copart with trade plates in the windows, writing on the windscreen etc Obvious accident damage to the OSF. The wheel had a bit of camber. Think they had tried driving it and released "oh shit, it's not driving straight, the bottom arm must be bent.." When will people learn to just recover cars from Copart 🤣 Barry Cade, Rust Collector, GrumpiusMaximus and 3 others 6

vulgalour Posted November 8, 2022 Posted November 8, 2022 Recently discovered this little Youtube channel, there's some rather good content. https://www.youtube.com/c/MovingOurWorld What's extra weird is that I only recently learned about the Humber 10 and couldn't find much about them and then up popped this video on the home page so now I know more about them. And so do you if you've watched the video. There's some really obscure things on the channel too, like this DKW F1 which is another car I knew nothing about. Austat, Angrydicky, RayMK and 2 others 5

vulgalour Posted November 9, 2022 Posted November 9, 2022 The Youtube channel above introduced me to another new (to me) thing, the Lightburn Zeta. I was going to stick it in the 'cars you just found existed' thread, or whatever it's called, and I can't find it so it's here instead. It's definitely a thing. Amazingly they sold more than one. People paid money to own one. Obviously I want one too because look at it. It'd be the perfect companion to a Shamrock for when you want something a little more compact for buzzing around town. wuvvum Posted November 9, 2022 Posted November 9, 2022 I'm sure I saw a Zeta in one of those World's Shittest Cars features a few years back.

It’s not a place to get bargain. It was the 3l 24v in limousine extended wheelbase spec. It was sadly often broken due to electronic ignition issues, drank fuel like a battleship and handled like it too. We went on a driving tour holiday once that included some laps of Brands Hatch. The waft was immense.
