I've seen that at a Retroshite meet a few months ago. It was for sale quite cheap with a suspension issue. Good on him for fixing it and using it.

Yep, he said he bought it in Norfolk and had it transported home and rebuilt the front suspension having found the parts in France. He says it’s really nice to drive and he’s put two thousand miles on it since fixing, with it now on 69k. Very impressed.

Holidaying on the West coast of Ireland this week. Beautiful. Only downside is no wifi in wife's family's holiday home and very patchy data signal - and that's outdoors! Fortunately the weather, Guinness and craic are all excellent.

Hope the weather holds, we’re heading for Donegal on Saturday 🤞

I'm sure Junkman bought that Talbot as a winter car a few years ago. He proclaimed it was far too good for such purposes, and almost instantly sold it on.

It did look in remarkable condition. I certainly wouldn’t use it in winter, especially in Scotland!

Went to the scrappy to pick up a bonnet. Got a better look at it and it wasn't in as good condition as I hoped. Full of scratches where presumably someone stood on to get at the car above.
But crucially it was better than mine.

Cleaned it down to have a better look. All scratched up but at least it's mostly one colour.
0b21af84b004bee777a573aa9354a741.jpg

Removed the washer jets as the original appeared to be heated and the replacement bonnet was not.
eda50aad236d3f72c713991a0474c6b4.jpg

Then I spent an absolute age trying to make it close. Alignment wasn't far off but it wouldn't lock shut. Anyway I eventually realised it was the inner webbing had come away from the bonnet. Almost certainly from being stood on. So everything was out of alignment. I hit it all into shape and got it working okay.

Needs a good drop of about a foot for it to properly latch. However it's a darn sight better looking than the original. Now a 10 footer rather than a 1000 footer. Given the rest of the paint isn't in great condition, it would look weird if it was too immaculate anyway.

Cleaned up the throttle body. Love doing these especially when this dirty. Improves the drivability no end.

While looking around, I saw some oil around the mount. Went to wipe it up and ended up being rewarded with oil squriting everywhere. That'll be the oil damped engine mount that is fucked then...

Finally I filled up with washer fluid. Just in case the bonnet catch breaks and it never opens again before the MOT...
6c9e0ea48533073feed886bfa12f272e.jpg

I also picked up a interior vent. The scrappy let me have it for free. Most unusual! Must have either been the hot weather clouding his mind or simply even he thought the 20quid for the bonnet was a bit rich considering the condition.
However it was a black bonnet on a Focus Mk2 non facelift that was in better condition than mine (not hard). Beggers can't be choosers!

The original interior vent open/close control just span round. So every time you hit a bump, it would open or close. I stuffed paper in to stop it moving.

Old came out with plastic trim removers and force.

You can see the locking peg on the wheel snapped off on the original left.

New popped in.

At this point my phone started protesting that it was even too hot.
e7cf71ff08d79f2cdb83140c182d08ce.jpg

V5 came today too. It could do with some new tyres soon but I'm definitely not spending out on this car now. I'll still get an MOT as it'll be worth far more than scrap then. Another scrappy was doing part worns fitted for £15 each. While I hate part worns, it's tempting.

Definitely not going to bother spending out on a cambelt or even a service. At most I've got a set of new wiper blades coming as that's a useful thing to have working well in the rain.

While I enjoy bombing around in it and not caring, the mechanicals are sound but going to be worn given the mileage. Then shite body makes resale low. If the clutch gives way then any extra expenditure will be made pointless. Basically going to use it as a runaround banger until I find a TT Mk1 I like and in good condition. Then either sell for cheaps or even just scrapping it for zero hassle.

With bonnet and wipers, I'm in at £590. MOT if passes first time will make it as £640. Add a pair of part worns for £30, £670 in. Probably would shift in easily around that with a full test I imagine/hope. Or I scrap when the MOT expires and collect my £270.

I didn’t know phones did that! I know how it feels though, cycled home 8miles this afternoon.

It was only a matter of time.

Mrs CSW, started her CRV this morning, to find it had lost its Cat in the night.

My CRV parked next to it still has it's Cat. Until tonight I imagine.

A couple of other motors in the street lost their Cats too.

Its really annoying when Cats go for a wander.

There needs to be an angry emoticon.

Worse than the thieves are the unscrupulous scrap metal merchants that buy them from them. They must have the experience to smell when someone comes in with stolen items.

They have actually removed the entire system, front to back !

Shit pics, but its a busy road and lying down on the road is a bit dangerous.

Might find out how much the Insurance will pay out for the car.

I would heavily recommend avoiding even enquiring, you’ll have a pending claim on which will mess you up for 6 months even if you don’t claim.

Think about your excess, plus the added cost a fault claim on your insurance will add for the next 5 renewals. You’ll also be seen as a bad risk for the next 5 years as whenever you declare the claim, you’ll be asked what happened and where it took place - any future insurer who knows you’ve had a theft from outside the address you’re insuring at will see it as a high risk for obvious reasons

Only saying it because I deal with this daily through my job, it’s really not worth doing.

That's an almost exact representation of the headlight switch symbol in a Talbot Tagora.

i would say i can imagine how angry you are but i know as the same thing happened to me a few months back :(

they must have been disturbed halfway through nicking mine as it was left hanging loose under the car, i took it off and sold it myself to cover the replacement ebay cat. i still have the lambda sensors if they would be of any use to you when you fit a replacement cat.

i optimistically enquired at europarts and they quoted something crazy like £1100, i got everything from the manifold, cat, lambdas, centre section and back box for around £300 off ebay.

hope you get it sorted without too much stress. i would definitely be finding somewhere else to park the other crv for a week or so.

have you reported it to the police ? i wonder how many others have been hit in your area ? scumbags

So I borrowed Mother's car for logistics, going out with a friend and kids.

Unfortunately it was sat at mine over night and in the morning the battery was flat and the computer said no to everything.

Had to jump start with trusty Volvo 740 and it needed to sit charging for ½hour before the car push button start would do anything.

Flipping moderns for you.

That time of the year again... Yaris MOT.

Optimism levels: low.

Despite shelling out for a new exhaust and pads/ discs, and even going as far to change the oil and filters, I suspect a driveshaft's on its way out...

I have no where else to park, so could be in for more bad news tomorrow.

Police informed. Its now an online application to get the crime number. So they won't be doing an awful lot.

Need to decide tonight if to go insurance route or swallow it.

Oil cooler kit has arrived for the BGT. Should be fitting it later but too damn hot.

Also treated the Focus to new wipers. I was going to go £7.50 eBay no named special but decided I'll hate that decision when it rains next. So went with Bosch. Except I got them a bit cheaper as they were already opened.

Passenger side wiper blade is a bit low and catching the trim.

Anyone got experience of air con vacuum pumps? Tempted to get one so I can DIY fix air conditioning systems by evacuating them and seeing if it holds a pressure.
No doubt I'll be fixing many systems over my automotive fiddling DIY career.

In more great news, I've looked under mine, now that I'm.back from work.

The CRV's have a protective cage around the CAT, in case you do some hard-core offroading.

Mine is now missing. Its been cut off. See those holes? Thats where the cage was bolted in.

So they must have been disturbed.

Mrs is leaning towards claiming off the insurance for hers and doing a PCP on a Duster.

I too was worried.

Just did two quotes. One with claim, one without.

Makes 2 quid a month difference.

She has 9 yrs protected ncd and we live in the sticks.

I accept it might be a slightly bigger difference once we try to get an actual new policy, but think she will claim.

Cunts. Shame trolley jacks don't fail more often.

What's it like where the cars are parked? Must have made a fair noise.

Quietish side street at night.

No jack required. CRV's are high enough to get under without a jack.

Now going to buy the Mrs something that's slammed :)
