Nice chassis on those Mk2 golfs if nowt else. I'd have a'cooking' one defo if it was in good nick.

Yeah, I don't know about the povvo ones but I've had a couple of GTis and they were cracking, definitely not a bit boring. Not as nimble as the sporting 106/saxos I'm used to but a lot more surefooted, and they don't clatter and knock and bang all over the place, I'd definitely entertain even a bog spec one (but I would dick about with it)

My sister works for a large Fiat main dealership in Cornwall and today this little Mazda 323 came in, It belongs to a customer whose having some work done on a van but he want's to sell it, he's had it since it was 6 months old and it's only done 45000 miles, I suspect it will be cheap but she's going to ask him how much when he come back in to collect the van.

I'm off to Cornwall soon and I do like it, the trouble is do i really need another car?!.

Just checked, it's a 1071cc, I was hoping for a 1300 or 1500cc.

Only 1071cc? That's the stuff of Autoshite fantasy surely? Just imagine the country-width roadtrip potential! (but I'd rather have the Honda and Suzuki myself).

And in other news I've been out this afternoon in the Civic to get a price on getting the seat repaired.

Comes back as £50 to sew in a few section which doesn't seem back do I've booked it in, Also spoke to a garage about fixing the wings, £100 to paint each wing if I can supply and replacement (fat chance) or £250ish to weld them up and paint them, each, plus ideally I'd like to paint both sides, this cheap cars getting expensive now!

Ha!, I'd be a broken man by the time I got home, I'd like replace the Alto with something a little bigger but 1100cc is a little too small still.

Are the wings bad trig? It might be worth posting a wanted ad on rr as there's some talented guys over there who might weld them up for less and possibly do a better job. Im thinking specifically of des who does the hotrods.

I've spoke to Dez, he said that he'll be able to do them and that there's a good bodyshop next door to his unit (It's local to me too), In fact I totally forgot that I spoke to Dez about fixing them! I'll have to take a run up to his unit and get him to give me a price.

You know if he fixes them itll all be metal not just some bits tacked in with a load of wob smeared alll over them in the body shop.

Just spoke to Dez, I'm off to see him in the morning to get a price.

In MOR news, my mate has just took delivery of his new car, I knew it would go down well on here.  :-?

That has to be one of the most ugliest cars I've seen!

We all know this car thing is a disease. I found myself in conversation with a guy on gumtree about swapping my Saab for a jag xj6 then my brain cut in and said 'what the fuck are uou doing you dick youve got an xjr sitting outside!' . Might still do it :)

As if the Juke was bad enough! Why can't we have a Nismo 370Z instead? Surely that'd make more sense, and look better.

Posted

hahahahahahahahaha that's like a disabled version of one of those model cars you used to get out of the back of max power magazine, fantastic.

Posted

Where to begin with the Juke... the explosion of car parts that constitutes frontal styling would be one place, or the comedically undersized wheels/oversized bodywork... perhaps I'll just amuse myself with the knowledge that someone has paid money to own it and it wasn't me.

Posted

The only AS points that Juke could possibly score are for the odd-coloured door mirrors.

I've been buzzing into work on the scooter the last couple of days since the AX ran out of tax, and on each day I've had a slightly odd incident happen.  Yesterday morning a bee flew into my helmet (my motorbike helmet, just so we're clear) - fuck knows how it got in there as my visor was shut, must have flown up under the chin piece somehow, but first thing I knew it was buzzing angrily around the inside of the visor, about two inches from my face.  Fortunately I was in town at the time and only doing about 15 mph, so when I flipped the visor up it was able to fly out of the helmet.  It did shit me up though.

Then on the way home today, on rather damp roads, the throttle stuck wide open when I went to slow down coming up to a dodgy S-bend over a railway bridge.  Fortunately, being only 100cc, the brakes were easily able to overpower the engine and I slowed down to a safe speed and then flipped the ignition off.  I pulled over at the side of the road and jiggled the throttle until I felt it drop back into place.  I think I might need a new throttle cable.  I also think I'm going to be taking the Rover to work on Monday.

A bee in the helmet. Nothing worse.

I was once sitting waiting for a train and unknown to me a wasp had landed on the small gap that had appeared between my t-shirt and trousers (dunno why there's no nectar down there!). Anyway as I stood up to get on the train the wasp was sucked down into my under pants. Just as I stood on the train the first of many strings rang home on my arse as I ran up  the train carriage punching myself on the arse, screaming and trying to take my trousers off. Good times.

That Puke is hilarious. It looks like Porsche Cayenne that's been parked next to a fire and melted.

I thought my mk2 Golf Driver was a hoot. 1.6 carbed engine goes pretty well, the mk2 isn't a heavy car. Driver will have GTI bits on the outside (arch trims and quad lamp grille) but standard interior.

Taxed 306 today. Didnt manage to get pics as was DIYing all day :-( Did allow me to pop out for bits! :-)

200 miles worth.

It is a nice old bus, pulls well. I had forgotten the old skool .. no power... no power.. Tuuurbo.. runs out of puff...Smells like PO has been Veging or Ronny McDonny is stalking me ...

Found few more things

  • Some lacquer peel on passenger side
  • Rear doors both have become sticky
  • Rev counter has become intermittent
  • Windscreen wipers just discuss with water about leaving then screen
  • Shocks have seen better days
  • Brake fluid needs to be replaced
  • Brake discs are a bit juddery
  • Needs tracking
  • Rear left tyre is really low
  • Needs a radio
  • Missing standard AS 1 wheel trim!

Applied Lube to doors and they are happy. New blades ordered for windscreen. Put wanted ad for radio. Spent £4 on Wilkos floor mats FTW

Waiting to happen

  • Cambelt
  • Oil Change
  • Coolant flush
  • New air filter (cant work out how to get at it!)
  • Check tyre pressures
  • AS sticker to be applied
  • Give it a good clean and polish (perhaps even clay bar... got a year of no cars to get out of system)

Never had a Pug before but I have a feeling that this might be a keeper. Could chuck couple of hundred quid at it and would last a while longer. Does everything I need it to... and not run of the mill... still think it looks stylish.

Seen a car I like. It apparently needs a VIC check because it has had an accident and repaired several years ago. Its got full MOT, is taxed but you need the VIC to get the V5 from Doovla for the new owner. This is 'apparently' because they need to see the VIN to check the car is the one it says it is and will cost around £50.

Not seen the car in the flesh like but am wondering:

a) How badly damaged does it need to be to require the VIC in the first place.

B) Does it only cost £50

c) Is this going to end badly?

I love how you can't write 'b)' without a smiley appearing.

I've noticed it in other posts aswell.

Those Jukes look like a rather surprised frog, being raped by an angry lizard.

a) it depends on the insurer. Insurance write off cat C is what usually does it. I've had 2 cars that needed VIC checks, both were because of dented panels, neither should have been cat c though.

B) £41 according to https://www.gov.uk/apply-for-a-vehicle-identity-check-vic

c) Doubtful .... I think all they did at my last VIC check was check the chassis number

Air filter is behind the radiator on the nearside of the car, access is from below, you will need to jack the front up.

three wire clips hold the cover in place and they disintegrate as you open them.  Cover falls off and the filter falls out.

Replacement is..., as they say, except the clips will be a pile of rust by now.

Saw this beauty parked in my street today, which means that including The Volvo, there are at least four Volvo 740 estates in regular use in my area :)
