I’ve just been offered a Daewoo Matiz for $100.

No registration, no service history and an undetermined intermittent starting issue.

But most importantly of all, no profit margin, but when has that ever stopped us?

Wow, less than the cheapest one I’ve ever bought at £75. Pure unadulterated shit(e) right there.

Have booked the remaining flights for my trip to New Zealand and Australia. Fly to NZ on 22nd October, Sydney on 20th January and then back home early March. That looks scary written down...

That would be epic.

Imagine the reaction to the reveal video!

This Matiz needs to be tastefully* modified. Make it happen.

Note to self: If a window won't open, the glass won't either. Then again, the glass was over 100 years old.

At first I thought you had stuck pieces of pepperoni to your hand. I suspect ouch was not enough.

Diagnosed a weird problem on the Pajero Junior this morning. On the way to the test centre last week, the abs light came on. very odd, all i had done was change a rear brake bulb. When i was driving out from my fathers place he noticed the tail light went out when brake was pressed ad the brake light didn't come on. this was the replaced bulb. So i must have the wrong thing in there i bet - best get a new pair of the one that works (lights and brakes still all passed the test :-)). Any how,  If i drive with the lights on press the brakes, the abs light comes on. It does not happen when the lights are off.  Restarting the engine with no lights on will not throw up the abs light. So some voltage drop somewhere blah blah - i am very hopeful that new bulbs will solve this mess.

Is it pre-facelift? I'm a bit behind with developments I think. Which bit of Aus are you in again?

I’m not sure if it is pre or post facelift, it’s in a friend’s yard and he wants rid. He’s a mechanic and it was a customers car that was given as payment for work done. I have seen it but I don’t remember exactly, I was far more interested in the Holden Statesman with the blown engine.

UPDATE: Good news, it’s pre-facelift.

I’m 2 hours south of Sydney in the lovely Kangaroo Valley, where the kettle is always on I should add.

My apologies, it’s the quintessential “it’s hot in Australia” uniform:

usually paired with some footy shorts and double pluggers (shorty shorts and flip flops).

i think there are fewer and fewer folks around who can drive an old style milling machine or lathe, these are the sorts of "dirty" jobs that kids have no interest in :-(

I'd dispute that........I'm 26, work for a small "old school" engineering company specialising in vintage engine rebuilds, and love it. There's young interest out there still, you just need to look a bit harder to find it.

Got to keep the wheelspin from that fire-breathing 1.6 8-valve in check somehow.

Telescopic handle on the back, pretend it's a fancy wheeled suitcase.  Job jobbed.

Should we explain thongs? It might be funnier not to...

shame DW does not have an AC Acedes Mk15, or one of the User Trial Model 70's as they have a towing eye in the front  (well a thing you would screw a towing eye onto apparently)

Home.  1,172 miles in 5 days, and the Rover hasn't missed a beat or used a drop of oil or coolant.  It has used quite a lot of diesel though - I haven't calculated it exactly as I filled up about a week before setting off, but the computer reckons 51mpg, so assuming that's correct it's got through 23 gallons.  It seems to have got back from Airdrie (with a detour via the Queensferry Bridge and a stop off in Chester le Street to visit my godfather who I hadn't seen in 22 years) on just over 50 quid, which more or less adds up.

Only had two near misses on the whole trip - the previously mentioned pillock in the Fiesta, and some cockwomble in a 208 driving down the A1(M) in the dark and pissing rain with only sidelights on (assume his headlights had FTP'd) - he was doing 70, then became disoriented, almost twatted the central barrier, then swerved across 3 lanes whilst simultaneously doing an emergency stop.  I didn't go into the back of him but it wasn't far off.

Most enjoyable trip other than that though, and the breakfast at the B&B included square sausage and tattie scones so I've had the full Scottish experience.  :)

If you had mentioned you where going to Chester le street we could have had a little meet 3 of us live in Chester and L1 is just outside and a couple more around the area.
