With the Henry vacuum cleaners ours went kaput, I took it in for repair and the lady said it was the power switch at fault. On the ones produced in modern times they apparently are no longer a simple on-off switch.

Beko has a fix for that, from memory it then just runs at full power all the time.

Collection of a French van tomorrow, from Norfolk.

It won’t be exciting and no collection thread I’m afraid, as I also have to work. Photos and MOT / prep thread to follow though, a French van - WCPGW

Landlord’s agent ( QEII being busy ) came over first thing to basically discuss upping the rent. I pointed out the snagging list I’ve compiled ( cracks, flaking paint, missing plaster and window putty falling off and a gas hob that works when it wants to).

She has recorded it all and I expect some may be seen to shortly), however in our chat i mentioned looking for a garage and she said they do have one on their books adjoinging ascot racecourse ( literally back on the same wall). Even odder the address is course road where lived from 2001-2003! No idea on cost, but I registered an interest. An even better home for Monsieur traction avant than my sister’s in oxford.

I think she sees me as a not-difficult tenant and will try and help. I don’t moan unnecessarily or demand things be done instantly.

She Did say that she’d try to keep the rent the same next year, but may be forced by the powers that be to up it.

If anyone is interested there are a couple of nice cottages up for rent in Windsor great park at the moment - newly renovated.

Sound exciting what is it? And when do you need those Volvo wheels out the way mate?

I imagine that technology has given us 600w vacs that clean the floor as well as a 1000w Henry in much the same way that my 1.6tdci Focus is faster than my 405TD but I don't believe that the eco Henrys work as well as the old ones because they are basically the same design with a smaller motor.

TLDR new Henrys are like Hindustans fitted with a 1.1 K series.

It’s a Dispatch that needs some TLC and some MOT prep time.

The wheels are still on the Volvo but I do need to bridge it soon, will let you know bud.

Are you related to Meghan?

Probably already on Airbnb for all we know....

That's because that's what I put as the link!

The henry hack is to remove the pcb! It halves the voltage for the low speed, which it starts at. It then switches off to allow 240v on high.

Its in the motor housing, 5 years of carbon dust shorts them and they die.

I can remove one in 12 minutes!

Yep, I haz the number 1 henry eco hack!

Let's not go wild with power claims though...

We finally fixed the fucked Connect today.  They tried new wiring to the alternator last week so I put a new alternator in today.  Fortunately the jump leads were just long enough to start it from a Fiesta kissed up to the back bumper as it was on the ramps nosed into a dead end.  We snapped a towrope trying to remove the Dacia from them so an immobile Connect with no rear towing eye would have been a complete PITA.  The passenger door lock looks like its been attacked by the worlds most inept thieves after I showed them a YT video of how easy Transits were to break into then swiftly departed.

edit, well mostly fixed.  The battery light stayed on for ages after we fired it up.

My Henry is single speed, does that mean it’s not an Eco?

Its from week 38 2018, 620w so no need to go lower as that's the EU cap!

Eco henries are the ones with the green flower on the hat.

Yours is a yucky flimsy new one! In a game of Henry conkers I'd bring my 1996 one...

I though the EU cap was 900W. Aren't there a load of 890W Mieles?

Is it 620W, because of the 80dB noise cap? Or just eco-label bragging rights?

My BMW hasn't been touched apart from moving it into the yard. Phoned up yesterday to enquire. Due for a call towards the end of next week, so hopefully should know more by then. I'm sure it won't be as bad as expected.

Part of me wants to enquire - and move lock stock - so I can say I live in Knobs Crook cottage! Those places look bloody lovely!

I think we should sentence young offenders to selling cars on Facebook, and having to sell them firm at £500, and reply to every single message they get.

.

Quite simply, that's the greatest idea ever. In the universe.

The recently new (to me) Honda Accord lit up the EML on a trip to town on Christmas Eve and was obviously misfiring badly. Codes read and:

Hmmm. First thought was a faulty ignition coil on one of the cylinders but checked the spark plugs first.

attachicon.gifimage.png

The gap on every plug was over 2mm, so totally worn out then. I suspect these must be the original plugs and the car has done 176,000 miles!

So much for fleet maintainance then. The car was owned by Dyfed Powys police for most of that mileage.

Will be replacing the plugs with new ones tomorrow as haven't done any car stuff over the festivities. Hopefully no ignition coils have been damaged.

Update. New plugs were fitted but the pencil coil on number 3 cylinder was borked. Replacement used coil fitted (£20 delivered. Ebay) and normal service is resumed.

Having replaced the plugs, leads, dizzy cap, rotor arm and ignition control module on the Acclaim I have to conclude that the ignition is not the cause of the lumpy idle and general lethargic acceleration the car is currently suffering from.

The valve clearance has been set but I have to wonder if the timing is a tooth out, the PO replaced the (snapped) belt and given the quality of some of the other repairs I question his ability to get it right...

The alternative is the carbs and many air/vac hoses, but I'm trying to ignore them...

Credit where due.

I placed an order with Euros last night at 1748. They didn’t have the (expensive) Mercedes Air Filter at Watford so opted for delivery, and went for the free option of 4 days.

At 0911 this morning the DHL man called to ask where he should hide the merchandise.

Two air filters, two oil filters and eight spark plugs - £43.

Fair play. Even DHL brought their A-Game!

I order my ecp stuff with the free delivery now. Every time it's come the next day with DHL... It's probably less hassle to just send the 2% of free delivery orders out the usual way with the shipping rates ecp will have!

They even sent the droplinks that I ordered, I was amazed!

I ordered a coil spring and drop link for the C3 on Tuesday at 16:40 on click and collect. Half an hour later, I'd driven there, stood in the queue, called in at Lidl and was back home.

And they fitted!

I pass a bug-eye Corolla on my way to work every day. Not a car that I'm especially interested in but it catches my eye because I know they're popular on here, and because it's unusual to see a 90s car in daily use and looking well looked after.

Today it had fresh scrapes all along one side :(

I was surprised by how upset I was!

There was an R reg. one across the road from us until very recently.   Old dear was persuaded to give up driving by the family but I do miss seeing it outside...

If anybody fancies one, come to Essex. I must have seen ten in the last week alone. Impressive reliability aside, it's beyond me why anyone would want one but it's a broad church..
