Don't get too excited chaps, it hasn't actually started in over a year. It also needs all new sills and some floor patches. Hence trailer.

I'm moving house next week, and losing storage space for it. I thought I could squeeze it in (oo-er) but domestic management has overruled yet again. Frankly it's just wrong to have it sitting rotting away when someone with better health (and a better attitude) than me could actually do something constructive with it.

It's a 1980 1300 (squarelight), formerly belonging to PBK of this parish. It's had vinyl seats and walnut dash (from an HL?) otherwise it's stock. It was running fine, up until I stopped running it. If anyone's really interested, I'll hose the mould off tomorrow and take some pics.

We need a shitely from Anglesey to Glasgow, surely?

That's a plan - Capt70s can buy my engine and get the rest of the car free!

I tried to push it this morning and the rear brakes appear to have stuck. Landlord wants to paint the outside of the house before we leave, so it'll probably have an interesting colour scheme in a few days.

Really fed up now. Remind me to never, ever buy anything remotely nice again.

Me and 17-Coffees have used that place a couple of times. It's absolutely brilliant! Lovely people who run it too, they provide you with copious amounts of tea, biscuits and chat. The stock of tools is huge, and it's just really nice to work in a sheltered, heated space with a proper lift for a change. The folk who run it even wander around asking how you're doing, ask if you need a hand etc. A few times we had the guy who runs it (forgot his name) giving us tips and pointers, and even getting stuck in helping us.

If Captain_70s does go there, I'd be willing to get myself there to lend a hand / pass the wrong spanners.

I like the idea of these places but knowing me I'd end up on the lift with the car in pieces and being unable to put the car back together again because I'd broken something that was only available from Mars with a 456 year lead time

Much 'dislike' on the Doloshite situation... they say it's better to travel than to arrive, but when on the way back from a gig you just wanna get home, end of.

Much cuntiness on the part of the RAC to take full payment and then casually announce they won't do owt for 24hrs.

You may take some minor consolation that even if you'd paid full whack in advance for their super mega recovery relay package, you'd still be looking at that sort of timescale regardless...

Hope the situation resolves without further disaster.

Sorry Dollopmite has died Captain. Many bollocks.

Was theirs burnt out or is it one of the undamaged ones that are stuck in there?

crispy one I believe.

I'm fully committed to the budgetless 1970s shit car lifestyle.

PM'd you dude.

Anyone around Chesham (so Aylesbury/High Wycombe/Hemel/Metroland) that can view a car for/with me?

Posted

Couldn't decide on a thread for thos so it's ended up here.

Grin -

Had to evacuate our building today due to a fire alarm. It was 10mins before I finished so I just came home.

Grumpy -

It was a false alarm. I hate that cunting place.

Pretty standard on any breakdown policy. It's not buy-when-you-need-it cover!

I live in Chesham, land of the unscrupulous car dealers.

Send me some details and I'll have a look for you.

It's this:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VOLVO-850-2-5-20v-ESTATE-AUTOMATIC-1996-P/183459001122?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649

I'm seriously thinking of just heading down tomorrow as it looks to be a good example of an 850.

Reviews of the company are odd. Googling 'the motoring team Chesham' gives an different name and address in Leicester, says 'permanently closed', seems they moved to Brent, were pretty dodgy, then renamed, moved to Chesham and have been rated well since. Hmmmmm. Hmmmmmmmmmmmm.

How hard would it be to buy a £1500 px from them I wonder. No sign of opening times anywhere on the web and they aren't listed on Google etc.

The nearside rear door and rear quarter don't look quite right to me. Also, I reckon that it's way overpriced.

The place seems closed whenever I drive past it but has only recently been spruced up and the "motoring team" signage been put up.

There are a few dodgy car dealers in Chesham and I think these may be another bunch.

Uh-oh.....

Plugs coming out for a shuftie. Watch this space...

Ah.

Er yeah. I guess it wasn't condensation then. It wasn't covered in that much mayo last time I checked though, a bit under the cap and tiny amount on the end of the dip stick when I checked last week.

No no, my issue's not with the recovery policy not starting for 24hrs - for exactly the reason you state - but it's the not mentioning that salient fact until after someone in a pickle has paid up... and now finds that they're going to have to make (and pay for) alternative arrangements anyway.

The RAC has left me stranded on multiple occasions and I do have a massive axe to grind about their customer service agents (though not the guys on the wagons, who have been universally excellent) - so I'll shut up now.

Seems to be the going rate now from what I can see.

I'm usually within reach of Chesham at the weekends as my oul horse is stabled in Sarratt.

Just after seeing the advert. Bet they only accept payments in cash.

I think at that price you will take quite a loss if you sell it quickly.

A car from a dealer always costs more but with a car at that age I don't think there is an advantage to paying the premium.

I've no intention to sell this one, I've been instructed to stop changing cars (and I'm a bit sick of it). Between that and the Civic I'd have all I want and need so it'd be ok.

Also how long I've had a car makes my premiums an hell of a lot cheaper.

It's also my intention to haggle.

By everyone on here :-)

Those auto Volvo's are thirsty beasts, mine used to do 23 round town and crack 30 on a run.

Nice enough if a bit boring - big old cars which are great for load lugging. Will go when put foot down and winds up, like straight lines rather than corners.

The 5 cylinders are wedged in properly under the bonnet!

keep thinking about buying a larger ford ie mk3 mondeo (not diesel) as feel cramped in the focus, im not massive at 5'10 and 16 stone, just big boned, problem is i like what ive done to fozzie, and next problem apparantly you need thing called money to buy stuff...bugger.

Posted

Bugger! Took Mrs Fl's C3 out this morning and the 'Zorst is blowing, I think at the back box, anyone local to Stafford able to wave a sparkly stick over it in exchange for beers/ beer tokens?

I have to say I'm surprised at the reaction to the 850, its not as positive as I'd have expected.

I'm buying it to be an car more than anything really, and I think an 850 is about as good as that goes while still being shite and moderately interesting.

Idiocy knows no bounds so I'm off to have a look at it.

The 'dealer' barely spoke on the phone past 'hello' 'yes' etc.

I think they're ace. Seriously considered a Volvo before ending up with the Saab instead. Lovely old buses.
