The new news 24 thread

The XJ6 is now with Broadsword, and I think he's planning to do a thread at some point. I had it a whole week! He'll be a good custodian of it I reckon.

Indeed it is with me at Jag central now, and has been totally reliable so nothing really to report. The plan at some point is do a thread where we retrace the family tree of N118 MFV, who here owned it, when, was it by roffle or outright sale, and what activities were carried out during ownership. The red bike has gained an evil, supercharged, twin (same colour!) brother. I'm too distracted with potentially costly MOT woes at the moment to do any threads. Check M252 ELA on the interwebz to see what I'm facing. We shall have to see how the fleet develops, I'm struggling to shift the exceptionally clean XK8 despite it being excellent and non-rusty unlike 85% of the competition!

A light bulb moment has occurred. Finally had enough of penniless dickheads with a pocket full of fresh air and a head full of promises they cannot keep. Started stripping the last (of two) Focus 'Collection' and it's going to he big bridge in the sky.

The Mondeo ST220 is going to go on Gumtree or eBay I think, though I want to keep the Pumas and the ST170s.

Good point. I think those limited edition Focii are only good for upspeccing other ones, leather seats bodykits etc.

Same with Pumas. I sold the leather interior out of mine within about 10 minutes for £350 with no haggling when I broke it, guy came round with his boggo spec one with just the drivers seat fitted and we had an hour of spannering!

I'm not tempted at all, but what do those go for these days?

Hard to place. £3000-£3500 seems to buy one with visible rust and somewhat questionable MOT history for anything between a P and a W plate. £2000 buys a shed sometimes with MOT, sometimes without. £10000 for a clean one from a specialist dealer. It can be very variable, later 4.2 cars can quite a lot. Convertibles aren’t under £5 same I think for XKRs. There are some truly awful ones out there that I wouldn’t even take for a test drive.

Thanks, that's put me off enough. I'll stick to XJs for now.

Howdy all,

Our time in the USA is nearly over and we'll soon be moving back to Germany. The other halves Jeep is already booked on the boat and because Germany snow tyres and a spare set of rims already purchased.

The Triumph is not going to Germany, It is Going to England to be stored in my garage whilst I figure whether to convert it to right hand drive or not.

Are you still keeping the white stickered one, Chief?

Good man, sensible stuff. You can take some further comfort in the fact that you already have the engine out of an XK8, so you aren’t missing out on the soundtrack at least! The looks of the XK8 are harder to resist though.

Nope, that's the one I've been (partly) stripping today. I CBA taking the side skirts or bumpers off it, so just took the Lexarse rear lights (soz!) the Morettes, the K&N and the alloys.

4.7 magnum V8 (surprisingly quick) and it'll cost a couple of grand to ship. A rough and ready workhorse that owes me nothing and will go anywhere.

You have answered your own question there.

Reality's hit a bit.. There will be sales shortly after Christmas. Anybody interested in a Rover 3-litre saloon, Lada Riva estate, Peugeot 404 saloon or a Maestro VdP with the lcd dash? None are roadworthy but they'd all go again pretty easily. Pm if you're interested, I'm in Essex.

Oh bugger.

I find myself in a predicament. With the Rover being a sod, and the Civic making me realise I should have just stuck to actual Hondas all along, I got myself a glass of wine and went on eBay. After all, I've effectively two 1991 Civics at the moment, just one of them is in drag. It needs a load of money throwing at it still, and well, it's just not going to get done by me.

I've found something H-badged that looks very promising, cheap to insure, and all round a better proposition.

I think it's consulting time again.

Mike drove the Rover to temporary storage while I followed in the Princess - that got looks - and I witnessed something I thought was my imagination.  When I'm out in the Rover people pull out on me a lot, it's like they don't even see the car.  Someone did it to Mike too, leaving so little space he and I both had to get on the brakes.  Just like my old Maestro, it appears my lairy Rover has a cloaking device and I have no idea how to turn it off.

Have you posted about the 404 before? French one I assume...
