Holy shit that's not a good look. It's like someone's put an already ugly child in braces.

Feckless Campbell still hasn't taken his box to the post office to send to you though. I'll get it done for Monday. Am away tomorrow.

I picked my car up from the garage today having paid the £18 bill to get a new back box I picked up for £25 fitted. So exhaust sorted for less than £45.

How is your blue planet driving Sam?

The lack of updates mirrors real life events, it just drives! Done about 1k so far, and nothing has gone wrong, it loves it!

Issues to sort however:

Wheel wobble at 70, although it's not as bad as it was

Recently, the smell of raw sewerage has started to enter the cabin. I think something has dropped down the scuttle and died

That's it. The only scary moment was trying to start it in reverse, and it not starting. Que 15 minutes of going 'oh bollocks' at my dads in Peterborough before realizing my error!

Baby approves:

and even the missus likes it more now, and even drove it, although wont admit she likes it, I couldnt wrestle the drivers seat back for ages!

The fed spec Marina is superb, and anybody who thinks otherwise is a MASSIVE FUD.

Good news/bad news on the Lancia, more bad than good unfortunately.

The good news is the bonnet cable hasn't snapped, the bad news is it's ripped through the bulkhead, so it needs weldage :(

The bonnet was coaxed open so I flushed and changed oil & water, turned the idle up slightly as it did occasionally stall. Checked the air filter, it needs a new one, but none were available, so I'll be on the lookout for one at Chumley. Dodgy cable tie bonnet opener has been attached for emergency use only. By the time that was done my energy/enthusiasm had gone so it's not been cleaned.

I now own an E-reg 735i in white..........bizarre really as i own far too many cars as it is and was looking to downsize to a french diesel!

CV boot replaced by my trusted local mechanic. Split was recent, so grease was still in place and no damage had been done to the CV joint/driveshaft. Still there's a fair bit of labour in removal and refitting, so the bill came to £54. Not bad at all, really- there'll be an MoT in 3 weeks' time, and he can't see the car failing on anything. All set for Northwich, although I didn't manage to get it washed.

I've got the big long side panel on my van all filled and mostly sanded, and managed to maintain it's shape fairly well considering I've spread filler over a 4 foot by 1 foot area (I replaced half of it ages ago so there's a big weld line to cover). I've spent hours on it and there's still hours left, but it was the job I was dreading most.

The thinners fumes did eventually get to me and I spread a 3 foot long smear of filler all down the side of it and realised a couple of hours later that I'd not put any hardener in.

The number is an anagram of UVE SHIT. How utterly inappropriate is that? :D I didn't quite score mx shite points as it's a whopping, fire breathing 1.2 not a 1.0. Soz.

Base model by the looks of it, I thought these all had colour coded bumpers or has that one met with something semi-solid at some point in its recent past?

Whatever, it looks utterly pitiful, well done.

What a purchase. That must be absolutely miserable to drive. Does its engine sound like cutlery in a tumble dryer?

Today I attended one of those "speed awareness" courses. It was actually Ok, not patronising, pretty straight forward and something to learn. Also, it was held at nice Hotel by Merry Hill.

Then, I trundled down to Telford to pay my deposit on my new garage which will soon be the home for the 820E. See 'Grin' thread.

It's the Comfort, which is actually a bit plusher inside than my lad's Comfort model which is a year older. The bumper looks shit because the previous owner said his missus drove into a post which damaged the bumper and dented the bonnet. He just bought a mingebag bumper from somewhere, probably at more cost than the properly coloured replacement from a scrapyard. I'll (possibly) go the local ace yard and get the right bumper, grille and maybe a bonnet then see how it all looks.

It was cheap enough (which as you can see it needed to be) so that's what counts. I've already had a sniff on it as it stands too, so we'll see how that goes. Being the 1.2 it's not quite as wheezy/agricultural /lawn mower-ish as the 1.0. But the tax is more

I've been offered a T reg Lupo 1.4 with 1 months tax and 1 months MOT for £300.

Seems to drive great, needs new wiper blades, a new front grill panel and possibly a new screen (although the chip in the screen may get away with being filled by Gary from Autoglass) but I don't really have the space until this infernal caravan is gone. Seems like a fairly good deal to me as Lupies seem to hold their value quite well so it may be worth trying to do some re-arranging to get it to fit.

Looks worth a punt. I reckon you could sell it for twice the asking price if you simply got it MOT'd :)

Posted

Oh yeah there's a proper Lupo scene, advertise it in the right places and you'll treble your money. Don't worry about colour matching the front panel as it'll be wearing dayglo pink banded steels and copious amounts of blackboard paint before long. If you can find a roofrack, you could take the opportunity to clear out the junk cupboard and get rid of loads of rubbish! :D

Does look nice and clean though so perhaps a bit of a valet, the right coloured bits, and bung an advert in the local uni ready for all the students graduating and moving back home might make even more.

Posted

I'm certainly going to see what I can do. I've been looking at prices and I think I might get it, slap some new wipers on it, new grill and try and blat it through an MOT followed by lobbing it on evilBay and see what happens. If I can get a profit on it then it all helps towards my saving for a deposit on a house in the next year or so.

A measurement train topped by a class 37 and tailed by a class 31 just rattled past the window :D

Off to collect the BX tomorrow. £413 lighter in the bank account, and there's a long list of stuff that needs doing as well. BX Mojo still on the low side, but having spent the best part of a grand on it (including purchase) I'm going to put some miles on it - which includes driving it around Scotland next month. Hopefully the journey home will remind me why I like them so much...

dropped a set of alloys off at the tyre place today for some new boots!

Another set to go and I'll have both XMs on alloys again.

I knew the passenger side, side light on the SD1 didn't work as I spotted it late last year. Swapping bulbs didn't help so I just kind of ignored it until today when I remembered I'd need to fix it for the MOT. The connector looked gummed up so I cleaned it with electrical cleaner and a bit of sand paper. Still no joy so I put a circuit tester on it and still nothing even at the wire end, which disappears into the loom after about 3 inches. I was considering running a wire from the other side light (as an mot bodge) when I noticed another very gummed up plug thingy that's not been plugged into anything for a long time. I put the tester on it and among other things the live is connected to the side light switch. Whow know why like but tomorrow it'll be getting the snip, snip, solder - bodge and we'll be set for the mot.

Moby my new(.....to me at least) bummer 735i is getting delivered tomorrow morning.

nerves, excitement, the oh fuck feeling of having five cars and a drive way big enough for only one.

Got the BX back. In a shocking development, I don't think I like it any more. This possibly has something to do with a diesel return pipe splitting and soaking the engine in diesel, and my hands as I effected a repair. Had to Gunk the entire front end and give it a pressure wash to try and make it all less diesely. At least diesel isn't very flammable.

Ugh.

Dolly there is a Xantia up here for £400, which I'd have optioned on if I hadn't already committed to a *spit* C5...
