I think I've had this informative publication since I was about 3 years old...(highlights). Again, more pipe smoking! Based on Aston Martin.

Does it have the California emissions gear on it so it doesn't make the smelly smoke?

I thought the drawings looked oddly familiar...

Can't persuade the passengers' side window to go all the way up without slowing down for the last inch. Not exactly a BIG problem but it's annoying me! Tried WD40 and now, as that failed, I have gone for the big guns - Silicone spray! I have actually done a bit of an investigation and I can't see sod all wrong with it. I have even run screwdrivers all round the (new - pleasant surprise) window rubbers and felts and there's nothing wrong.

Is this just another 'old Jaguar' foible?

Re: the car book - yes Timothy Hunkin is named as the illustrator - I'll pop a few more up later. First printed 1974, mine is 1979.

Had some good news on the Princess fault finding front.  The reversing light issue was traced to a broken wire in part of the loom that's really easy to get to.  Wire fixed, job done (we hope).  Mike got a magic thing that uses radio signals to tell you where the wire is broken.  Fuel gauge issue persists and it looks like we might have to take the dashboard out again (great joy) since we now know the pump and its wiring is fine, the sender is actually working (phew!), and it's just the gauge that isn't getting any power.  There's not much it can be now after having eliminated everything else as being functional, so it must be either a faulty connection/wire behind the dash, the voltage regulator (unlikely, since that would take the temperature gauge out too which is actually working), or the fuel gauge itself.  Fortunately I do have a spare fuel gauge that does work (or did when it was put away) so even if I do have to dismantle the dashboard again at least I have the parts to fix the problem.

What a palaver.

My x1/9 is the same. What made the biggest improvement was cleaning the switch contacts as Bertone didn’t believe in relays.

Thanks so much for sharing this! I work for Ford and this book would be handy for my kids to understand what I actually do.

Lady Grumpius' Dad has always raved about the Morris Minor's handling...

the front wheel drive one they made was even better apparently and there was always a battle to yake it home!

Odd thought could it be designed to do that so you have more control over the initial opening and closing? Often you might just want to open a window slightly?

It celebrated with the climate display actually working and not just displaying "-" as it has since I bought the car.  This why I love the French

My passenger side window was much slower than the rest, but silicone spray got it going smoothly again.

Put it down as old Jaguar foible, at least your passenger side window works at all! Mine packs it in at random now, there must be a loose connection somewhere (surprise, surprise).

Check your weather stripping isn't gunged up with moss and rubbish, you'd be amazed how much that can slow a leccy window down.

In the wake of the tragic events currently troubling California, Forgiato had a rather touching idea how to commemorate that at this year's SEMA show and bought a burnt wreck of a Maybach to showcase their aftermarket wheels.

Yes! She's brilliant (and usually very well dressed) but today's was too Autoshite not to notice.

That caused some serious upset amongst folk who had actually bothered to build cars for the event.

SVX Update:

A minor miracle has taken place.

The gearbox was banging up and down on the body because the specialist had mounted it on top of the mounts rather than between them.
Yes, that's what they did. Local place moved the box back to where it needed to be for a crate of beer.

It still wibbles a bit at certain speeds (I suspect a slightly out of balance prop, other worn bushes or a diff mount and/or a kippered exhaust mount somewhere up the length of the car) but the car has gone from being utterly horrible to about 70% sorted. It's now tolerable to drive; although it took me from home to work this morning (that's a huge achievement for this car) I still wouldn't trust it to do a long journey.

Said gearbox place also cocked the speedo up, so I'm using a phone GPS app as a temporary stop-gap.

It's still chewing through fuel - the exhaust is a welded up fart-fest - and it turns out they took the rebreather and charcoal canister off without replacing it. Lumpy running ahoy.

Also, the rear pads are on their wear indicators, I think a wheel bearing's on its way out and there's a leak from the front diff.

Still, the heater and demister works.

Re the window: all the seals are new, correctly fitted and appear clean throughout. I really did check... I have sprayed silicone everywhere (mainly where I didn't actually want it!) and run it up and down a bazillion times. It  is still slow at the very top inch! I suspect some alignment issue in the door itself. Or, of course, it could be a wiring fault somewhere hidden under the back bumper with this cars track record! :)

On my very brief drive in the car today I was passed by some huge ugly SUV that had a Lamborghini script on the bootlid. I had no idea they made one, and perhaps wish they hadn’t!

Saw one fly by me a couple of weeks ago on the M1. It was in a god awful chrome green wrap.

I gave up smoking three days ago! I am using my old Vape pen with a new atomizer and so far, it's not too bad. But, I feel like shit! Cannot believe how bad I feel, short of breath (worse than usual) lost my appetite (which is never good at the best of times... except for chocolate!) and any impetus to do anything has disappeared in a cloud of smoke (well, water vapour).

Got to do it, realised I spend £450 a month on smoking, which is, er, quite a bit! Smoking has become a very expensive hobby but you don't notice when you just buy every day (or in my case, three lots of £9 every other day).

Good on you fella. I rolled a fag up on Monday after work as I was pretty stressed out, took one drag and then immediately chipped it out. Tasted absolutely foul now as the filters had lost their menthol, plus I'm so used to the really strong mint in my vapestick. Have about 4-5 rollies worth of tobacco left and it will probably sit in the glovebox until i) I no longer need the vape or ii) everything goes tits up and I start smoking again.

The pain in my chest from lungs clearing out is starting to ease off now, was in absolute agony on Sunday but a few good coughs later and I soon felt better.

Unfortunately my appetite has increased, at least I'm eating fruit and raw carrots or slimming world friendly stuff as opposed to chocolate, toast and generally picking at things. I am less thirsty as well, so I'm not drinking anywhere near as much water as before, and generally feel a lot more with it.

Last two weeks have been very hard, especially when at work, and have been at the point of giving up giving up, thankfully the wife and stepdaughter haven't done anything to upset me.

Wish you all the best!

Sounds like you both have quitters flu - it does pass.

Vaping will dehydrate you a bit though so keep drinking lots of water.
