Had to use the little Peugeot 206 cc yesterday. My assistant went out in it last  week and said it felt like it was running out of petrol. The scanner revealed no faults so I gave it a sort of road test yesterday. In traffic going up a slip road and the car starts spluttering and coughing like it's running out of petrol.Today I fitted a nice new fuel filter. The old one took a bit of getting off and once off I emptied the contents into a clean container. The petrol was greyish with black bits in it.Good call that man.Drove it home tonight and it starts coughing and spluttering then cut out......Arse.

That's a relief. A fresh ticket for the fleet stalwart today. Bonus bilge in the background.

Only 4,374 miles since the last one, but I'll do an oil and filter change this weekend and hopefully that's more or less it for another year. I fixed the handbrake advisory from last year, but the speedo still doesn't work.

Lovely, mine was that colour..

Great news on the pass Rob. Just realised you’ve got a period mobile telephone mast on the rear screen, has it still got one? CD spec FTW (no doubt a very expensive option in 1992/3)

I've done 1000 miles in the BX in the last week. 600 miles in one trip to collect a grandfather clock from Lincoln. French estate cars are damn useful on occasion.

Final trip was today to drop it off at ACA for Saturday's auction.

Earlier this afternoon, I went for a drive in a scenic bit of Perthshire.

Found it in bits a few doors up, oh well, it is scarier now ;-)

They nicked our battery tea lights tho!

It's got the hands free mic sprouting from the driver's A-pillar, plus some gubbins in the boot. No phone though. Maybe I should get one, for the full 1992 executive look!

FFS, because I've been busy away from home clearing out an elderly relative's flat and some other stuff, I gave the 405 to my local garage to sort out the split coolant hose, which might be small but it's buried deep in the engine bay.

I came home today to a message saying It's not ready (they've had it for a week) and that their suppliers cant get the part.

So, tonight I searched ebay for 2 minutes and ordered one.

Shame it's not going to be here before I need it to go to work.

The application of just in time principles has gone too fucking far.

The omega was eventually ready at 5:15pm

They charged me for 4 hours work, which suggests that when I phoned up yesterday at 3:30pm and they said they'd only just started and it wouldn't be ready by 5:30 pm but would be finished first thing, was probably a lie. They probably started just after lunch today.

Small Jag jobs were undertaken this afternoon.

New wiper arm was ready to be fitted but it appears to be about a 15cm too long. Seller has been contacted politely.

In other news, I’m a very shallow yuppie who can’t afford a car phone but wants people to think I have one. (Aerial found on the side of the road in the undergrowth)

And I found my HubNut sticker that I lost months ago amongst a sea of tat in my desk drawer.

If I had to describe the Jag in one word: CLARSE.

That wiper arm also appears not to have the right slight curve in it. What a pain!

Sticker approval, granted!

The seller has got back to me and he thinks my car has 2 drivers side arms and the one he sent is correct. Apparently the passenger side arm should be pointed up higher but I think this will bug my OCD as they would not be parallel.

This is how the wipers ‘should’ be:

Yeah, that ain’t going to happen! Having 2 different blade types is much less irritating than that!

Here is mine for reference:

Much better if you ask me.

Continuing on tyres..

I've had Nankang winter tyres on the Trajet for 4 years, and they've been surprisingly good in the Finnish winter (ice and snow aplenty). So much so, that I just bought a set of Nankang winter tyres for the slowly dying but still puttering Nubira, too. Incidentally, I bought a set of Goodride summer tires for the Nubira last spring after FIL's set of Goodrides on his Camry proved nice enough. Can't fault them.

The Nubira better not die soon, as I've treated it to two new sets of tyres within the year!

I looked at my dash at day this morning

WP-20181101-09-30-20-Pro.jpg

and found we have some alignment.  I wondered if it was it linked to a certain pagan festival?

Probably not.

Who knows?

Did I mention that the other day I found a stub (for a vacuum hose) broken off on the distributor? Well I did and I was not happy (other dwarves are available) and the price of a new bit seemed a bit wallet melting, so I tried to fix it with glue (Gorilla) and it failed. So I tried again with plastic cement, failed, so as a last resort I made a new bit of pipe from a welding tip (1.8 if you are interested) with the ends cut off (hacksaw, 24 tpi) and plastic metalled it in place. Left it a day and was pooing myself at the prospect of trying to shove a tight hose back on so kept procrastinating...

It is currently not raining, I am not busy, both dogs are asleep (Phoebe on the sofa upside down, Chester in the chair Phoebe usually sleeps in, looking grumpy - little-known fact: Bassets {and derivatives} are the only dogs in the world that can look grumpy in their sleep, and mean for it to be a serious problem when they wake up) so I had no excuse.

Outside, bonnet up, quick waggle of stub (seems solid...) and push hose on. Bugger 2.753 seconds later it's fixed! Dead easy, car started and sounded healthy, no obvious air leaks about in the area. Colour me surprised...

So, do I risk it and take the car for a run (petrol station/post office/park/home) or leave it outside and wait for another day for my courage to recover?

Is that binnacle in the middle of the dash pointing the wrong way? As if for a LHD motor?

Already managed to find a very, very suitable replacement for the 416GSi. A distant cousin, even.

It's in the low tax band, has a carb/manual choke, and has been giffer owned seemingly from new.

It's not cheap but it's understandable why, however it yielded the single cheapest insurance quote I've seen yet.

I may officially be a two-car Ghosty soon.

Two blokes from estates have just turned up... To deal with a spider. Yes, one of my colleagues in the office next door has called estates because there's a spider in the office.

I did indeed, drive it! It feels totally different and of course, the thing is running differently as well! It's running really well (touched loads of wood) but the idle is now doing what it's supposed to do: which is piss me off for 15 minutes before it slows down to the correct 700 rpm! somewhere, buried in all the electronic gubbins is a '15 minute' timer to compensate for low temps and air con demands etc, this raises the idle speed by 400 rpm so just over 1000 rpm, doesn't sound like a big increase but you don't half notice it on the brakes - it doesn't want to stop! Do I bother searching through everything or just leave well alone?

Oh and of course, fix one thing another breaks. Washer jets now blocked, drivers side, FFS!

Leave it outside.

Enough excitement for one day!

Oop's too late.

Can they really manage 15mins without stopping at a petrol station?

It depends on how much you put in the last time you were there - 30 gallons should last nearly an hour!
