Due to storage problems I might have to sell one of my cars. With regret this would be the Allegro, a car I don't want to sell but might have to. If the worst comes I'll do a proper advert.

Not sure it makes sense to get rid of your modern with winter just around the corner?

I am just after discovering that one of the previous owners of the CX lived not far away in Edgware. I think he's dead now.

It's a ballache on a megalithic scale, for sure.

Beg pardon?

I think he is suggesting the opposite of a garage conversion. Knock a hole in your front wall and park in the front room.

Perhaps, M+S stands for Mud and Snow so they have a more open tread.

Winter tyres have a snow flake on a mountain on the sidewall and are made of a compound that remains flexible (and hence grippy) below 7 degrees.

I've only seen M+S markings on the cheapest, nastiest teflon treaded PRC tyres

My TT has Accelera deathrings on the front. Marked with M+S. Absolutely shocking little levels of grip. Loads of tread on them though so I'm a bit loathed to change them just yet. Also kinda hope they'll improve as the weather gets colder.

and finally the little black mini, well, got the back wheel bearings done, and the new radiator fitted, but its running  like a bag o' crap. unless the choke is fully out, it'll just cough, splutter and grind to a halt. we are going to see a local old school mechanic to get the original spec manifild and exhaust fitted, i'm hoping that 'll make it run better, well i'm hoping it will.....

I'd guess at a blocked idle jet, pulling the choke on bypasses that from what I recall from SUs.

Most offroad tyres I've ever had are marked M&S, it just means an open tread that shouldn't* clog up as much.

It's the same with the rovello that came on my 7 spokes, they are marked M+S there's a load of tread but they are absolutely shocking, I'll be taking them off soon

Yep.  Winter is a bastard.  I have probably the best car ever made for winter conditions - Minor 1000.  Decent heater, tall skinny tyres, eminently controllable RWD, very sweet throttle and clutch action and brilliant steering.   Mine also has Metro GTa seats with nice warm fluffy seat covers made from fairground leopards.   You couldn't wish for a better combination.

Except that the fucking thing dissolves in salt so I have to endure winter commuting in a modern.

My W-reg Fiesta Zetec did me well last year but its just too modern for me and I don't want to subject anything interesting to the dock roads where I work - they salt the minute you can see your breath in the mornings and continue to shovel it everywhere until bloody May Day.   Treating the car is 95 percent effective but it still manages to rot in unseen places until it becomes a mammoth repair bill.

The Fester is due its MOT soon which will seal its fate - quite honestly despite its lack of appeal I would be more than happy to keep using it but an expensive failure would give me an excuse to buy something else.   Keep looking at Primeras for some reason - they seem cheap and tough and unlikely to become an expensive object of affection....

Morris minor, Fiesta and maybe a Primera?!

You are attracted to things that rust. :D

I used the Dacia today for the first time since Chodley last weekend and the battery was flat, I'll see if the battery I've just taken off the 405 is any better. I'd been asked to cover the office at work for an hour so bump started it and headed into town getting there a little early and putting it straight up on the ramps so I could change the oil. Unfortunately it requires a square key somewhere between 3/8" and 1/2" so its still on the ramps and a Transit is parked outside as I ended up working 4 1/2 hours so didn't get time to complete matters.

Must remember to take the square sump keys I bought years ago in tomorrow.

When I get stuck I take a grinder to a suitably sized bolt and make where the thread is normally into the square, if you make it slightly tapered they get a good fit.

Then on Thursday I’ve got to pick up the bargain £300 Jaaag for my father which I’m starting to wish I bought myself as it’s a lovely looking old bus that’s wanted for nothing.

Vinehall School could do with you right now, to fend off the Twitter shitstorm they've inadvertently stirred up:

"No, you've got it all wrong - look, you can get a Jaaaag for your father for only £300, alright? We're not all elitist snobs here, honestly!"

What exactly is wrong with a school advertising it's pupils should be successful in life? Isn't that why people try to pick good schools for their kids?

I think the complain was lodged by the SVM as it was Volvo-ist.

It’s pretty insulting to the non-silver-spoon folks that struggle their way through funding their kids schooling at this type of place surely.

Transit went for MOT this morning. Passed it with flying colours!

Ian, my tame MOT man loves it. When he rang me to say it was ready to go I asked him if he’d found anything that needs attention, he said no, it’s like new but you know that!!

Picked it up not long ago and was chatting to him and he reckons my mk2 would put many modern Transit’s to shame it’s in such good condition. He can’t believe it’s all original and unrestored!

Anywho here’s a few pics just because...

No idea if this video will work or not but here’s a short vid of it running.

That is how a Pinto should sound! It’s done less than 20k miles and is all original still!

While the twatter shitstorm is just the usual 'i'm outraged' brigade doing their thing it is a bit tone deaf don't you think?  They're saying that the purpose of education is just to get on in the rat race.

I don't see it like that. I'd have said it was reinforcing the reason they are already sending their kids there (as per the dad in the advert). So their kids do better in life than they have, isn't that what people want for their kids?

The purpose of education is to do well in life, part of that is surely gaining the financial means to live the life you want?

A/T = all terrain in 4x4 black cirles, quieter on road and still capable off road but try avoid deep soggy ruts

Calling the person who is actually your potential customer a failiure is not the best idea, I'd have thought.

Especially one that could well be driving an £80,000 XC90 from choice over a brand he might just associate with Arthur Daly, Paddy Plated XJ40 Pub Landlord , white 2.0Diesel XE salesmans weapon.etc etc.

This smug cunt is the new Gerald Ratner AICMFP.post-17414-0-34963100-1536677292_thumb.jpeg

The only way he can salvage this is if he does actually drive a scabby £500 X300 with odd panels.

The XJ-S I was bidding on ended at £3100. I would have bid more if the bugger had let me go and have a look at it. An hour or so passes and I get a text from the seller saying I can ave the car for £3000, do I want to go and have a look? It's one family owned for the last 21 years, stainless exhaust, all old MOTs and 11 months current all with 77000 miles on. Sound good?

Oh yeah, it's a V12!

I'm not sure that there's anything inherently wrong with wanting your children to do well and have a better, (even) more successful life than you as parents; but the charming* little vignette that forms the ad text seems to be tapping into a pretty lazy stereotype of cars as shorthand that:

Volvo = parvenu middle-class wannabes desperately seeking to climb further up the social hierarchy;

Jaaaaag = old-money dreaming-spires breeding, doncha know

and so

Volvo<Jaaaag

My gripe is more about the startlingly clunky quality of the writing on display, as much as the utter naivity towards the reality conferred by Jaguar ownership...
