but I do blame whatever moron in the treasury it was that decided to entertain the suggestion.

You shouldn't blame "whatever moron" at the then Customs & Excise for carrying out the decision of a tax tribunal, made by a judge. You should of course blame the judge.

I vacuumed the inside of the omega on Sunday.

Is this news? Well, I'm not sure that JohnK did it in his ownership and is been almost 2 years since I got it and I hadn't cleaned the inside.

It should never have got that far. The response to the initial enquiry should have been "Fuck off and pay your tax. Another peep out of you and we'll use your logic to claim alcohol tax on bourbon creams."

Where was this car park?

Asking for a mate.

Most of the laybys on the A470 by the reservoirs, apparently, which is why most of the vegetation gets cut back. Not a good place to stop in the evening with a failed head gasket.

In other news my deolli-ing of the grey Land Rover continues, I took the afternoon off and have swapped the winch bumper for a standard one. Also taken out the centre seat and refitted the cubby box and covered a big hole in it with an old speaker grille.

Edited to add, either I'm weaker than I used to be, or that winch bumper is heavy, it was very awkward to carry it down to the cellar and I'm now knackered.

An ideal place to blow your big end though.

Never mind the bumper, those winches weigh an huge amount. It looks like the same cheap Chinese toss I put on the pickup and iirc it was well over 50kgs alone. The bumper is probably thick steel too.

Either way, CA$HBACK should be possible - that sort of thing usually sells well.

Have agreed to remove a load of scrap from a nearby house, including a couple of rather industrial looking sewing machines, do I attempt to save or just weigh them?

Posted

If they are properly industrial machines people will give reasonable coin for them....Google the models etc when you know.

Good money in the motors too. Take them off before weighing them in separately.

Yeah, post some pics up, my mrs will recognise them. We drove to heathrow and paid £400 for one last year...

Back home!

994 miles covered in the Transit and no issues at all. It did splutter a bit when cold this morning and give me the fear but it soon warmed up and got us home.

If I ever do it again, it will have to be grandstand tickets though. Hours sat on a steep bank hurt my botty.

When Valentino Rossi fell off in practice it happened right in front of me and i managed to get some terrible quality pics of the aftermath.

The race was awesome, so many overtakes.

The camper bed proved to be a bit of a faff to set up so I will need to re-think that but otherwise i was pleased with it.

I'd be happy to do long distances with it again.

I have now had the red one back from MOT, it had failed on a couple of minor things (I knew I should have had both outriggers changed last year) The passenger mirror which has been cracked for years is an advisory again, even though it wasn't last year.

I really ought to sell it now, with a new MOT before I spoil it again

With its new engine parts, the 109 was pressed into action at the weekend. It took part in the classic land rover display at the Game Fair at Scone, towing the caravan there and back.post-5582-0-35914200-1530741891_thumb.jpg

On the return trip, the brakes became progressively worse and when I pulled onto my drive, the pedal went to the floor.

Fortunately, no deaths were caused apart from one wheel cylinder.

Naturally it chose to fight me at every step. Rounded off brake pipe nuts and rounded off wheel cylinder bolts.

This started life as a 6 cylinder, so has the 3 inch twin leading shoes on the front.

It was one of those jobs that grew in size with every failure.

Should have been a case of: old cylinder off, new cylinder fitted.

But the brake pipe nut didn't want to play, so I decided to sacrifice the pipe (connects top and bottom cylinders). Of course the other end of the pipe wouldn't play either, so now the top cylinder needs to come off.

Its bolts started life as half inch AF but were now 7/16 in diameter. Yes, they were circular.

I now thought I would take the hub off, get the back plate off and attack it on the bench.

The free wheeling hubs wouldn't come off. There's a plastic cable tie type thing that stops the cap coming off, the end of which hides under a small screw.

I couldn't get the plastic thing out.

Sometimes you're better to go to bed and try again tomorrow, so that's what I did.

I had to go to Dundee in the morning so popped into machine mart and bought a set of bolt grip nut extractor things.

Using my new tool, the brake pipe nut came off and I got the job done without having to take off the FWH or the top cylinder.

New brake pipe made and after a quick wrestle with the springs, all back together. Even bled easily.post-5582-0-51129300-1530743594_thumb.jpg

As my work mate said to me years ago after replacing one wheel cylinder on a mini one week and 3 weeks last replacing another. "If one is worn out they are all worn out. Replace them all otherwise you'll be replacing them every other week until you've done all 6 of them. oh and whilst you are at it new adjusters springs back plates and drums"

I had the money for a 3 door cosworth in my bank in 2006. I probably might regret my caution. but hey.

Did some cooling system tinkering on the ZX yesterday.  A new temperature sender didn't see the gauge working, so that'll be a dicky gauge then.  I tried replacing the radiator but the bottom 'hose' on these is a twat of a design being two pipes made of hard plastic, one fitting inside the other.  The new one wasn't watertight (that's putting it mildly 007, it was gushing out) and I couldn't be bothered trying a myriad different O-rings or whatever, so just gave the old one a good flush and put it back on.  30 quid wasted but not the end of the world.

Here's the stupid design.  What's wrong with a conventional hose and clip FFS.  Took me far too long to realise the O-ring needs to be right at the end of the black pipe for it to marry up.  Had to take a break and have a cup of tea as I was getting full of rage!

post-5013-0-18121800-1530793032_thumb.jpg

The radiator was definitely gunged up as the bottom hose now feels warm and the fins are hot rather than tepid so it's doing the job.

Next jobs are to sort the oil leak and the ropey brakes.  Doing some reading the front calipers can be an issue on these, so I'll have a fiddle before spending money on new ones.

This design is quicker* to install...

FFS! As soon as a car leaves the fleet, problems.

2CV ran out of electricity, because I think I may have run it too low on fuel - I need to drop the fuel tank to sort a leak. Sloshed a couple of litres in, but it's not making its way to the carb. Pushed her back in the garage, ably assisted by Mrs Wobbler. I'll deal with that another time. So, the only usable car on the fleet is the Nippa and a borrowed Impreza. Which I'm replacing with a Rover...

I'm looking to sell my 2003 Fiesta in a couple of weeks (holiday first, so not planning on being a knob and listing it whilst away), so stuck it in for an MOT on the 1st day of eligibility and it was a pass without anything needing doing, so happy days.

Picking up it's replacement which will be newer but more shitely this weekend :-)

Collegue asked me to change the rear reflector and foglights on his and his gf fiestas... u need child like hands and another pivot joint between wrist and elbow.. not charged him labour yet..
