Just wondered as I could imagine an auto licence being an issue with such a job.

Fusion is in for an MOT today,  3rd car in a month.

Pass.  New MOT format...(the windscreen has been exactly the same for the 3 previous MOTs in my care, and has not merited a mention!)

I think I had the other driveshaft seal replaced last year.

6223 miles since last MOT.

Phonecall from the garage. The bloody punto is putting up a fight- even pulling the subframe leaves no access to get to the alternator. The only solution is to degas the aircon and remove the compressor, then pull it from the top, hopefully he won't have to pull the inlet manifold either.

I swear this car was built by a half blind spider monkey.

*Adds Punto to list of cars never to buy*

Old Man linked me to a job ad on Indeed earlier, still in the self employed delivery business, but...

it was for riding about on a folding bike, going to garages/dealers, being given a customers' car, lobbing the bike in the boot and dropping the car back to the customer.

£8/hour plus bonuses.

Sounds alright...

Does sound good, but as a self-employed driver would you not be responsible for your own insurance?  Would presumably need some kind of trade policy to cover you to drive anyone's car fully comp - could be interesting* at your age.  Not wanting to piss on your cornflakes or owt.

Chucking money at a garage to do some of the shitty jobs would be cheaper than a PCP deal...

Aye, I'm going to get them to do the welding, but having spent so much time and effort already on the brakes (and the other bits I've replaced, which thankfully passed) I would probably be more pissed off if I gave up on it now than if I kept going to the bitter end.

I stopped in the mecca of Tebay services in a Rover 75 last night. Not sure if its allowed but what a cracking service station. I had proper food, not plastic muck. Makes a change.

Myself and Max are going there on Thursday on the way to shitefest, can't wait!

Although one thing I've noticed, it says Southbound on Google maps, and we shall be northbound. Can we still go or do we need to go up and down junctions?

Wow, 1,666 pages.  This thread is on fire!

Maybe Samuel Pepys will drop in again? :-)

One either side. Equally good.

I stopped Northbound last night, and even in a 75 i was allowed in.

Yea but I'll be in a laguna 2... Worst case we'll pop a junction up and I'll jump in Ghostys rover and act innocent when we go back

I was following a doom blue Lag 2 tourer into Tebay. I did wonder if yours had risen from the dead

Not sure but I am aware that's how it works. The customer facing ad says the drivers are 'fully insured' so I'll have to see how that works out.

You might find that they'll give you trade plates and insure through themselves. Its not much different from trade plating except you aren't going massively long distances or owt. Make sure however that you understand what you are signing up for... some unscrupulous companies may advertise £x-amount per hour but once you factor in expenses etc... you may find you earning a lot less than that.

I know a guy who delivers cars self-employed. No trade plates, all covered by the dealers insurance.  No folding bikes either, gets reimbursed for bus/train fares.  Works out as less than minimum wage though; not sure how/why.  Suits him as he's semi-retired so works when he feels like it.

I hope all of those cars are taxed and on MID if there’s no trade plates....

Removed, cleaned and refitted The Volvo's throttle body this afternoon, which appears to have cured the misfire. It's now running better than it has done for a long time, probably due to renewing all of the 'service' ignition components in search of a cure ^^

The Punto has been fixed and our pockets have been lightened to the tune of £400. Bloody moderns!

Fitted new brake light switch which I am assured is the cause of the ABS/BAS light coming on intermittantly. Did it fix it? Did it fuck!

I took it to a local garage with the correct socket to fit the sod and they came up with ;C1303 which is F/R solenoid hold valve, open/shorted. I have zero idea what that means! Also code A73y9 which is the same thing. Something is broken, but what?

Some autos (perhaps only Peugeot 205/309?) have a heat exchanger which shares engine coolant and thus the radiator.  My 205 auto consumed ATF for a while with no visible leaks, then I noticed the coolant bottle gradually filling up with oily sludge. Initially I had OMGHGF thoughts but then the box started thumping each change in a destructively violent manner.  The box died not long afterwards, sadly killing the car as well.  I hope that your autobox problem is curable without completely draining your bank account.

^^^ That's common with a lot of autoboxes, most of them have an oil cooler & a lot share it with the engine rad.

I think there is an oil cooler in the CX, but checking the coolant expansion tank shows no traces of sludge or other contaminant. Maybe it's just French engineering which has worked out a way of making Dexron III disappear into some black hole.

That's a good point. Off the top of my head, I can't remember seeing one.

I had that happen years ago on a MK2 Capri.

AIUI they reimburse for transport, but the ad sounded like theyd prefer not to do that.

Sounds like a valve that controls the difference in brake pressure front to rear has died.

No idea how difficult it is to do on them though.

Started pre-sale tidy and organise of the 1100 today.  I'm a little sad about it, tbh, I really like this little car.  I'm just going to have to be happy that I did my bit to help it live on and SiC is going to do his bit to get it that little bit further.

Come across a new (maybe?) place doing ramp hire in Gravesend. Cheapest way to do it is a four hour weekday evening session for £50.  However, four hours daytime in the week is not much more at £60. If anyone wants to go halves on a 'session' in the next month or so let me know. I want to do the oil and filter on my Mazda for a start, and would like to have a poke about and maybe get some vactan on the underneath.

A bit tired of working in the road at the mo.

I was surprised but apparently so. They would have to be for the customer to be able to drive them straight away I suppose. He works for two or three main dealer groups in Derby.

Ah that makes sense. Tbh a main dealer could have him use their trade plates for the untaxed stuff anyway - AIUI they can be held by a limited company as well as an individual
