I'd be looking at the GT6, it's the only car in that pic made when cars were interesting.

TT is in the garage tomorrow. I suspect and ultimately fear that it's one of those over engineered shocks that need replacing. A shock, not a strut, because they're shockingly expensive to replace. :?

...or it'll be a top mount and I'll wipe my forehead with relief.

I really don't know why I do this to myself. Should just have kept with the ever reliable Civic and avoided the idea of getting something different and more exciting/interesting. So instead of forgetting about the daily car and letting me focus on old crap, its giving me excitement. Except its giving me the wrong sort of "excitement".

I went to a #SCENE car meet in my C15 before it had clutch issues.

Conversation went like this:

"You're not here for the car meet, are you?"

'I am.'

"................."

'I'm here for the car meet - and I can also do your bins if you want."

The ones who laughed turned out to be alright; got the business card off a bloke with an immaculate Civic EK9 (SPOOOOOOOON) who's gonna come and sort the Impreza's bumper out soon.

Yes, I took a C15 to a #SCENEJDM car meet.

What?

The Jag is all good for another year

Only issue was a small exhaust leak that they plugged up for me.

Happy days.

Just had a worried phone call from the wife... The daily 12 plate punto is sick.

Making a wail from the engine bay rising with the revs for the first 100 yards or so when cold (clutch release bearing, garage has said to keep running it until the clutch goes.)and this morning it's apparently started with a sweet, acrid burning smell after around 10 minutes driving, no warnings, loosing coolant, puddles anywhere.

Also engaging gears fine and the engine is running smooth. I did ask if it was losing power, but it's the 1.4 8v 77bhp lump, so there is barely any power to start with!

She's reasonably good with mechanicals normally, so did the usual thing of stop and check for any damage and low levels under the bonnet. Apparently you have to get close the engine to catch a wiff and she thinks its gearbox side.

Methinks the clutch bearing may be shagged, but I've heard horror stories of fucked gearboxes too, thanks to leaking seals.

Guess I'll find out this afternoon, after I've walked across oldham to fetch it. Oh joy.

Ah, there’s your problem

Hope it’s not too bad to get it sorted though.

Weirdly enough, it's been the most reliable car we've owned!

Shouldn't be anything too worrying, I hope. Just irritating that the bloody thing chooses to act up just as it's due for the mot as well.

I have known a couple of folk to own Puntos. One was a paragon of reliability, looked after and serviced. The other one was abused and neglected and gradually fell apart. Same with any car really. Of course the latter one will never buy another Fiat as "they are shit and unreliable".

Nowadays they abuse and neglect a 3 Series which has cost an utter fortune in repairs but apparently is the best car they ever had! Nowt as queer as folk.

What?

I rocked up to a pinappled dub meet to go and see an old mate in my capri and parked by some really scene cars, I heard someone say to his mate "what the fuck is a ford doing here" his mate replied "because it's fucking awesome" I nearly choked laughing at this guy shooting his mate down

Back to Puntos. At one time I wouldn't have had a good word to say about them, or any other Fiat. Then I got involved in looking after one owned by a mate of mine who knows nothing about cars. It hadn't had the oil changed in 8 years / 100,000 miles. He would just tip the odd half a pint in it when the oil light came on.

What I drained out of the sump was like treacle.

Same story with the air filter, it was last changed the same time as the oil. I asked if the cambelt had been changed and got the reply "whats a cambelt ?"

I felt sorry for the poor little car, which was showing 120,000 miles at this point so took it upon myself to look after it a bot for him.

A few quick oil and filter changes to clean out the innards did wonders for it, he said it drove like a new car again.

He had been in charge of the restoration of a large Victorian garden project, and the Punto was used to take all the rocks and rubble to the tip.

I saw it several times with the rear arches rubbing on the top of the tyres. Ive never seen a car get so much abuse as that one did, and still keep running.

I finally convinced him to let me change the cambelt at 130k miles, and was amazed that this little rubber band had lasted as long as it did.

He finally traded it on for a new one at 145k miles.

It never once broke down on him, so he bought another, which has had the same treatment as the old one and seems just as reliable.

My son bought a Y plate Punto a couple of years ago for his first car and that has been pretty good. I had to do a bit of welding on the inner sills for MOT last year, but otherwise its only bugbear is the electrical PAS system.

When you hold the wheel at full lock, it cuts out. I have researched the problem (very common apparently) and tried various fixes, apart from a completely refurbed column with attached PAS motor, but nothing has really cured it.

In summary, I cant help but reluctantly conclude that they aren't bad little cars. Certainly infinitely better than the piece of shit Clio my daughter had as her first car.

But then the only French thing I could be tempted to buy would be wine, and even then I would be reluctant. I have a problem with all things French.

They are a nation of lazy Communists. The reason they eat snails is that they are the only thing they can fucking catch.

Got some funny looks when I pulled in, especially as the aux belt decided to squeak like a bastard that morning!

I cant claim ownership unfortunately. I nicked it from the latest Micky Flanagan DVD. He does a hilarious few minutes about the lazy French.

Its worth buying just for that alone.

Ironic really, considering lazy Frenchmen jokes are the preserve of lazy comedians.

I got invited to a little car meet earlier on.

Never. Again.

I'm sorry you had a shit day, but I did like your photo of the Sierra bASe photobombing some other (far less interesting) red car.  Hopefully it photobombed other people's photos that day, too.

I fucking love Asda price guarantee.

They are NEVER 10% cheaper than their rivals which means I get a nice fat voucher when I run it.

I used £21 worth of vouchers on my last £100 shop a few days ago, and after running that order through another tenner for my next one.

I bet loads of peeps dont even think to use it.

Passed nine Aston Martin's heading south on the M3 this morning. Not following each other but spread out along the length of it. Must be something going on, that's not a coincedence.

I always thought Kangaroo Valley was Earl's Court tube station.

(this reference is likely many years out of date as Australians seem to be everywhere in London these days).

*APPLAUDS* Seriously, this is good news. Though I'm guessing it probably needs a ton of welding by now?

It looks so familiar but I'm struggling to work out what it is???
