The sign on that bus shelter annoys me...

Is it because TTS is obviously missing an I?

Battery fitted to passat was dying so bought a new one today. The car is my wife's.

Wife said "Cant it wait until next month?"

Only if you are happy to be stranded somewhere.

I will never understand the logic of women.

Sorry to hear the news on Hendry, Have read many of his posts, was definitely a knowledgeable and genuinely nice guy - you got that feeling from the way he wrote stuff.

I've had 2 friends take their own lives, it was very strange. They seemed happy enough and outgoing so no-one knew. The final blow for one of those guys was, the girlfriend at the time whom he had kids with had finished the relationship. A few hours later he was found. Poor bloke. My other friend, Matthew, same sort of story. Involved children money and women. He never said a word!

Shame

Sad stories, lets all raise a glass in Hendry's honour. What a guy!

Unfortunately the Bini failed its MOT, high level brake lamp decided to cease working (although it worked last week when checked). The windscreen chip has grown past the 10mm limit and the ABS warning lamp is not working on the instrument panel. The tester also failed it for inoperative rear fogs and inoperative tell tale lamp, both of which worked when we went to the car for a demonstration of the failure points.........

Brake lamp needs a new assembly, the water has taken its toll on the LED connections, with damage evident on the PCB. What an absolute b*stard to get out past the roof spoiler though!

The ABS lamp is a strange one. You may recall the wiring fault I traced on the ABS sensor wiring. This would have illuminated the ABS and Tyre Pressure warning lamps, well some knuckle dragger has gone and ragged the LED’s off the instrument panel PCB.

When the MOT regs were for the lamp not to be illuminated it would pass, now the self check has to occur, hence failure. To eBay then.......

Should be easy enough to resolder one back in. If you're being really cheap, you could solder a 5mm LED in.

Might be a bit awkward swapping dashboards as it could well be coded into the immobiliser.

I thought the ABS light thing wasn't until May?

Over the past couple of days I have mostly discovered that folding bikes with 20" wheels are shit in the snow.  And Perodua Myvis are better than Audi 80s, but not as good as Rover 45s with an LSD and snow tyres on the front.  Both Myvis and 80s are however better than Rover 45s with an LSD and snow tyres on the front which won't start due to a broken engine earth strap.

Pound to a pinch of shit the clocks will need to be coded on that . Oh and the joy of finding the original fault

Aye, it take longer to find the right surface mount LEDs than it would to solder them in, whereas you've got a lot more bendyleg leeway with a 5mm through hole one.

You could just wire them off the airbag light too, and then you wouldn't even have to fix the ABS! (I would never do this)

Did anyone else think that photo Tommotech posted looked like a space station or something at first?  I had no idea what I was looking at and my brain instantly went to space travel for it and imagining the long vertical oblong to be a door for scale.

Aren't they just standard PLCC LEDs? A quick measure on a set of calipers should get the size. Looks a bit like a standard 3528 LED.

For those others playing along at home a 3528 LED is 3.5mm * 2.8mm in size. There are a bunch of LEDs all a standard size. Might even be possible to get one from Maplins - even if it's on a strip of LEDs. Failing that, there maybe a LED that is mounted on the PCB but not used anyway that could be "borrowed".

Aye, that was probably more a reflection on how easy they are to solder than how hard they would be to find.

Looking at the pic on my pc rather than phone then yeah they are PLCC2. They looked like PLCC4 on my phone so there would have been the fun and games of working out the pinout.

With a long enough, thin enough, soldering iron I could drop in some LED lamps with legs. The plastic shroud won’t release without desoldering the LCD unit.

However, I have just bought a Speedo with the correct coding index for a tenner (with free delivery).

I have only just found out about Hendry.

Genuinely shocked and saddened.

RIP fella.

How come your Rover has got an LSD then? Never heard of that in a 45 before.
