I had a collection caper today, fetching a Volvo 265 Estate from Leeds.

It has no engine, needs four doors replacing and the axle needs to be swapped out and returned to the previous owner. Needs a ton of mig wire using on it and repaint.

It was, however, free and I really want to do it justice. My initial thoughts on engine choice are ES9J4 V6, as you would find in a Renault / PSA vehicle, a modern take on the previous incumbent of the engine bay. Views and recommendations welcome though.

DO NOT PAINT! Well done that man and good luck

It’s got to be painted, the replacement doors are white and it would play havoc with my OCD!

Fair play to you! That thing looks way worse than my 740 did when I dragged it off its previous owners drive!

Fingers crossed it's not too rotten.

If it were mine I'd be ditching French engine ideas and either getting a nice big V8 (Lexus?) or failing that a T5 ovloV lump.

A post 1988 Volvo 760 V6 is a much improved engine and I have thought that it would improve the asthmatic feel of an original 260.

Delorean eh?

Remove engine.

Throw engine in sea.

Turn shell into cutlery.

Watch the internet explode.

Seriously though, that electric one is a genius idea....possibly only topped if it was in full BTTF trim.

Best way to do that justice is advertise it on Gumtree for £5.57 and a packet of Fruit Pastilles and wait till I turn up.

There you go

No!!! Sorry Dave but BTTF is the DeLorean equivalent of Trotters Independent Trading and fake dirt. Aaaaarggghhh.

Well now it was mooted, but David didn't reckon he could realistically get away with it... basically the project was a way for a man obsessed with BTTTF to get his employer to buy him a DeLorean to play with. And it worked. I mean, it provided QUB with plenty of publicity and gave a lot of students valuable experience, but I believe that was the prime mover behind the idea.

He had previously fitted a replica BTTTF dashboard to his 5-dr Megane I.

The reason I know this is that he used to date Mrs DC before we met.

And the DeLorean arrived via her uncle in Leitrim... ('cow shed' in the BBC report was a bit of an exaggeration - plus, he's more of a pig farmer).

So, we've reached the due date and MrsH hasn't popped out the sprog.

Now taking an internet cookie sweepstake on the date it finally comes out, and as a bonus, what gender. (We didn't find out)

....and to have a DeLor professionally converted to electric power would cost upwards of about 15 grand.

As it's a Delorean, surely the order should be

Remove Engine

Show empty shell to Tory Business minister

Secure loads of taxpayer funding to build more of them

Blow the money on Coke and implicate the late Colin Chapman somehow

Just got the keys and went to view it earlier. Someone on the garage I am applying for appears to have replaced the back wallwith block work.

No idea if that's better or worse for leaking/damp soaking through? At least the soil isn't against it.

It's also full of crap. So I'll probably have to end up waiting for that to be cleared before I can sign up for it. Probably going to be a couple of weeks at least best case. :?

Funnily enough I picked the keys up for it today. Yay! Possibly a bit over excited for someone just getting keys to a rented garage...

EDIT: In case anyone is wondering, its £11.77 per week. Absolute bargain in parking short Bristol. Renting it off a local housing society. I didn't think I would be eligible (as not a housing society tenant) but they didn't seem to mind at all. I think they're just happy to have someone renting a garage from them that is going to use it to park a car in.

I reckon the Merc SL. They're getting on a bit now, so likely someone bought it outright as cheaper. Either that or the Polo next to your Mondeo? Again, that style is getting old and cheap.

(I guess not the response you were looking for :P )

The new tyre on the Volvo didn’t seal, because of course it didn’t.

I think the paint is beyond redemption hence the sealing issues so I’m putting wheel refurbishment up to the top of my priorities. Spare wheel is on for now - I was apprehensive about using it but it seems to be mildly used and the wheel isn’t perfect, it has a couple of paint bubbles so whatever. it’s a Pirelli P4 with a three number date code, but it seems to be OK at least for now. Holds air, grips OK etc.

ARB bushes and sticky brake calliper to do this weekend.

In a good mood, getting plans together with MrsHarris for a trip to Japan, during cherry blossom season of all times. I've booked a six hour drive in an R34 Skyline around the mountain passes, a huge tick off in my taskbook of life. We'll check out Mt Fuji, hopefully check out Osaka or Kyoto and try and squeeze in a bit of car shopping if I've absolutely lost my mind.

And if she's good, and there's a nice spot, she'll be getting a ring because she's a good egg and a snappy dresser.

Anyone got any recommendations on things to do in Tokyo? It seems like there's way too much to do for one week long trip...

Cute little American drifter and JDM fan Emelia Hartford is out there at the moment, visiting places, car shows and snowboarding.

Because I'm watching all of them I also keep getting ad pop ups for places to visit in Japan.

Oh, she's bloody charming. Can't watch the video due to work computer, but a quick google search shows a girl so attractive, I'd suck her dad off to get a taste of the recipe. :D

Given the messages on the next door door I’d be wary of rogue Parkers.
