I am now the proud owner of a m reg toyota corolla 1.3 auto. Well I pick it up Sunday photos to follow..mechanicaly seems OK bodywork has been gifferized.lots of paintwork chips. Paid more than what I wanted to pay but never mind. Told the chap selling it to come on here. He has an old garden centre in Formby with lots of cars in. All under cover. Tried to talk him into holding shitefest there but he didn't seem to keen . Can't see why.

Got some weldage priced up and organised for the Cowley today.    The rear wheel arch was a bit flaky and a couple of years ago I snipped it back to good steel and protected all the edges but of course it can't stay like that.   Also passenger door bottom needs rebuilding.

I went to where Dan's Capri is being done (thanks for the recommendation, Dan!) and was pleased enough with what I saw going on there.    Had a bit of a day out in Chichester as Mrs Rocker was present and demanded cake and coffee as compensation for the eventual spendage on the Cowley.   Now if I can persuade her to not have that twice a week for a year it will cover the cost!

Bonus spottage on the A259 but alas no pictures - DAF66 being trailered on towards A27 and Fark Me if we didn't see a Plymouth Roadrunner Superbird on the way out of Fishbourne!!!

Mr Turner, (the W reg Rover 75) has been parked up in the garage since purchase in early August. It was washed and polished before leaving it there. The roof, boot and bonnet became all dotted with what looks like magnolia paint spots! Strange. Cleaned them off last weekend but some have returned. WTF? Garage is dry and well ventilated. They wash off fairly easily but am baffled. The timber garage roof is clean and dry with no signs of anything dripping or dropping. No magnolia paint anywhere!

Indian made Suzuki Alto. Maruti?

Maruti 800, essentially a mid-1980s Alto that remained in production in India until 2011 !

Fed up with 35 - 36 MPG, I decided I would drive like granny on valium last time I filled up. Sticking to the inside lane coming off roundabouts onto dual carriageways and revving no higher than 3k, planning ahead, no heavy braking, pulling away gently at traffic lights, etc.

35.52 MPG. In fact the light came on earlier than normal. I suppose I must have an ingrained driving style.

Normal service resumed...

Stuboy, the three spokes on that Focus are inspired.  Deep chin front bumper, and/or a smidge of lowering, and cleaning it to within an inch of its life and it's sorted really.

Asbestos roof?

I get this on the Sierra.

Glad your getting the Cowley sorted. They're good guys down there and I'm positive you'll get a good job done. I just wish I'd found them much sooner than I did!

Did you see the Capri?

Yes, it was behind one of the Alfettas....Didn't get a good look though!

If procrastination was an exam subject I'd be great at it, except that I keep putting it off until later.

January, I bought a replacement driveshaft for the diesel 106, but used the Saxo reg. to gwt the right one for the hubs it's wearing. Then the rear brakes fell apart and I slung it onto the drive in disgust.

Today I finally got around to fitting it.

Here's the CV joint of the shaft that's on the car:

Here's what came out of the GSF box:

It's not a bloody rust poking screwdriver is the thing. Same car used to get compliments from MOT testers about how tidy it was.

I went to have a look at the Avenger on eBay, a car I have known for a big chunk of my life. Despite living in a bush for 27 years it's in good shape and my daughter wants to buy it as her first car. Provided I make it look like a Tiger of course.

Trouble is I so wanted it to be fucked, but it isn't. Appears very solid. All I can hope now is someone bids stupid money or else I really need to empty out the garage this week

I gave them the right info for the Saxo shaft though, that's the problem!  It shoulda been a taper shaft in the effing box!

JUSTICE!

No 30 pager on hammering a smaller socket over it for me. No, my 30 pager will be on how to get the smaller socket off the locking wheel bolt.

Cut the wheel bolt to get that ridge out the way, as you won't be refitting lockers will you?

Stand socket on vice so the bolt hangs between the jaws, poke a small solid pokey twatty stick through the hole the extension bar goes in & twat said bar on the end with a percussion adjustment device.

Insurance renewal on the Fusion at £188, just £12 up on last year, and no online quotes can get near it. Simple renewal then. Not bad as this car does the main part of business mileage. Protected no claims.

What is the car in question out of curiosity?

Amateurs... I've vacuumed two VAX bags' worth of rust out of my newest purchase, and that was just the loose stuff !

I'm afraid that if I take a wire brush to it, there won't be any bodywork left, just the interior, glass and tyres sitting on a pile of ferrous oxide !

I need to weigh the bag in my vax in after vacuuming out Chris's chod at the FoD last weekend!

2 vax bags? That's 20l of pure rust, that's some going, you should have weighed it in!

More sorting of the w210 has occured. I changed the glow plugs, so better starting and no warning light on the dash any more.

From Reims with rust.

The lanciaesque levels of rust on the front wings are now a distant memory. E bay provided a decent, rustfree set off a scrap car in the same 744u silver colour. Over the last few weekends ive binned the old ones. rustproofed the inner wings, adjacent box sections and replacement wings...

Ive used dynax s50 in aerosol form for about 10 years and it is simply superb stuff, always had great results with it...

Good enough to eat (dont try this at home)

I pre warmed the area with a hair dryer to encourage the wax to flow into seams, not that it needs much help!

All back together and its looking as solid as it is underneath on top as well. Despite being a dynax s50 veteran, i still find I get covered in the stuff still, so no doubt my own body will never rust, whatever else may happen when I'm out of warranty!

Managed to blag a replacement stereo off fleabay for £13.70 for my Streetshite as the disc spinner wasn't working.

Bought an exact replica, fitted today within 10 minutes (no buggering about with special tools, just a screwdriver and some deft* wiggling), all works as it should and better still, now the steering wheel audio controls actually work which they never did before - Brucie bonus

My garage is now complete...

Cheepo radio from Tesco!

I've been making slow progress with the 316i, finally started on the rusty spots.

post-19988-0-71561200-1505667451_thumb.jpg

Thankfully it's all just surface rust, so should be a doddle*.

And the Lexus continues to disappoint...

post-19988-0-23634300-1505667663_thumb.jpg

It's spawned a swimming pool on the O/S of the boot, as well as the carpeting being soaked. So put it down to the boot seal being gubbed as is common with them.

Oh well.

I picked up an 8 track stereo for the allegro last Sunday at an autojumble.post-5582-0-47887200-1505674483_thumb.jpg

I wired it up to a battery and a speaker and...it didn't work.

It had power and made a hissing noise but no Glen Campbell was heard.

Taking the top off revealed some broken rubber band. The drive belt.

I didn't have a rubber band but do have a teenage daughter. One hair bauble later and Galveston was blaring out.post-5582-0-34034200-1505675248_thumb.jpg

Being single and having a spare room (im calling it the 'study', sounds fancy) means I've got room put put all the random car crap I've acquired over the years, and even have some on display...

post-19988-0-94019600-1505700582_thumb.jpg

The original O/S tail lamp from the 316, the other lamp is the original sidelight from the Abarth (thanks Bambi). The number plate is from my old Civic and the car badges are from scrappys. The collection of keys is spare keys my family have acquired over the years, highlights are a VW Scirocco, 406 and my brothers Rover 25 (1.1 TWIN CAM, pwhooor!).

And things like this is why I'm single? Nah it can't be surely...
