I did get a full flush done on it a few days before you collected it from me so it *should* be quite fresh still...presumably it still slips out of lockup?

Glad it's still going despite the issues, it was a lovely car that.

Ah yes. Now I recall. I removed one of the solenoids to see if it was gunked up, but it was ok and the fluid was still nice and fresh looking at that point.

Check eBay for camera specific batteries. I got a spare for my HS30 for not much money.

I did look, and they were only £5ish, but I didnt want to drive a 45 mile round trip, then wait a week for a battery to arrive, then charge it to find the lens was smashed or similar! Was going to use it as a video camera mainly too (which apparently it's quite good at) but then I had a look on ebay for actual video cameras and HD Canon camcorders are auctioning for £60/£70, so decided that would be the better bet! There's a nice canon one that only works when plugged in for £55 atm, so that's a route I may well go down now

today i've been to our favorite motor factors, who have sadly decided to call it a day and close the shop.

so, i've been and wished Bill and Liz all the best for their retirement,

i've also scored some parts for the Rover 75 though someone else had beaten me to the Mini and Metro parts. :-(

bought some odds and sods, mainly workshop consumerables

but best of all, we've got this :-)

(for our younger members its a microfiche reader)

and we got these to go with it

post-18270-0-22793300-1506095118_thumb.jpg

these slides are mainly, it seems to be 80's Ford, BL/Austin Rover and Landrover. though no doubt GM/Vauxhall will be in there too!

we will give it a good home.

so, i'm sad, like really gutted if i'm honest that they are closing, and made up with the Microfiche.

i guess that makes it a day of contrasts.....

It was a proper motor factor then if they still had microfiche, no 'enter your reg number' and select the wrong part from the shelf :-)

Yeah, the old fashioned 'spend ten mins looking it up and pick the wrong part from the shelf' was so much better :D

If anyone is after a cheap Prius, several thousand owners in London will be selling theirs soon....

Very common fault, the pulley is like a mini DMF, and dies in exactly the same way! In fact that was about the only thing that ever needed replacing on Mother Rusty's 206HDi in 90,000 miles...

Several knowledgeable people have mentioned this, and when Tame Mechanic showed me the broken one earlier it certainly looked like a knackered mini-DMF!  Still, it made it to 14 years and 155000 miles, so not too bad.

Uber have lost their taxi licence due to safety concerns. I guess someone has finally noticed how taxis are driven!

Decided yesterday to do something useful and stick my head under a bonnet between showers:

Uber are already talking about appealing, and they'll be allowed to continue operating whilst that happens.

Whilst they're not the nicest of employers, sorry, managers of self-employed drivers.... What they have done is shake up the black cab business and rightfully so.

I hope Uber sort their dodgy business practises out and remain able to operate in London. 40,000 drivers hope so too, as well as a huge number of London dwellers who live away from the bright lights of the city and just want an easy way to get a cab at a good price.

I work for Deliveroo, similar type of thing but I deliver lazy yuppies food.

LOL NOT HAPPENING, in fact Deliveroo keep making the working conditions worse.

For quite a while they didn't even tell the riders they needed to declare earnings to HMRC.

(Speaking of which I need to do my taxes).

Just replicate it with black gaffer tape, as I've seen on a local Triumph Herald.

Job done.

Aren't Uber spending north of $300 million a year on selling driving cars?

So while app based cabs are overall a good thing, the taxi regulation is in place for good reason and shouldn't be ignored with impunity.

My issue with Uber is their end game target required to become a profitable business. They currently lose billions of dollars per year and will keep doing so until either.

A) All the competition is dead and they can charge monopoly prices.

B) The self driving car becomes practical enough that they don't need drivers.

Saw a TV program which featured a Uber driver. He said he liked working for them as he only did a Monday, 6 am to 11 pm. Said that after Uber took their cut, and he took off the price of his fuel, he got £3.85  per hour. Had to rewind that bit to check I heard correctly - yep,  £3.85 is what he said.

At least if they go (licence expires 30th September) then my commute on two wheels will be safer.

Uber are a bunch of cunts. While it is clearly s great idea the way they run their customers , business, treat people and completely avoid any corporate responsibility is pretty awful.

Seems indicative of how a lot of these modern tech entrepreneur Silicon Valley wanks run their businesses.

Before we get too carried away I'm pretty sure that Uber won't stop operating and will do the minimum to scrape past the legislation before going back to their current practices.

Terrifying how hundreds of thousands of people have signed a petition in favour of Uber. Yeah, ignore rapists, workers rights etc, but as long as there's a handy app, people don't care.

£3.85 an hour ? Flash bastard, hope HMRC didn't see it, I've not earned more than £2.00 an hour since 1993......

Aye... If only [any] UK political party could mobilise such a vociferous voter* response :(

*sorry [stupeedo, me] if only a dangerous law be enacted, so primary legislation might be enacted by popular 'tap-on-app' :)

TAXIiiiiiiii!

The public would welcome a return to actual slavery as long as there was a fancy app that saved them half a minute of actual effort.

i was talking about that the other day. How many people would give up their privacy and have amazon Alexa listening to their conversations 24x7 if it automated their delivered of toilet paper?

A lot I suspect.

Uber are in a league of their own :

Among other things.

Forced price surges to roger the customers out an extra dollar.

No legal or criminal background checks for their drivers

Writing software into their apps to punish drivers who also work for Lyft or others

Tracking customers movements and storing them. Some Uber employees had access to this until they got rumbled when an employee was using it to stalk an ex girlfriend.

Tieing their drivers into crushing vehicle lease agreements.

The dollop did a good podcast on them. The jampad bit is particularly cringe inducing.

Would prefer the cars to go with the two other kits on offer: R12 estate of GS estate.
