Well my Foster child hasover on to pastures new. After being arrested 3 times in one week resulting in lots of disturbed sleep making phone calls and police visits I threw the towel in on Friday. Some kids are beyond help . I think I shall have a break for a bit now and mess about with my toyota celica.

Following your posts lately, I don't blame you. It's hard enough to be patient with your own flesh and blood. All power to you that you take kids on.

Spent a couple of hours or more pissing about trying to get a mate's Freeloader going. It conked on him, tries to start but won't go. We pulled the in-tank filter out and suspect it's the fuel pump that's the fault, God knows why he bought the car though and he didn't even know the prop had been removed.

We've had an 04 fiesta since new, it's on 116k and has never seen a dealer as I have maintained it since new.Today I treated it to £51 of ECP's finest backbox,plugs,leads,4 x plugs, air and oil filter plus a can of halfords finest 5/30 fully skimmed. It's running really nice again but I was rather shocked to find massive cracks round the inner side of the front tyres, I mean 2-3 ml wide cracks, serious blow out potential and it was only MOT'd 4 weeks ago !

There's a kill switch on these by the scuttle panel

We used to nock them all the time when fitting screens!

I know you probably already checked it but it's worth noting

Tried to buy a v*#xhall this morning. Wouldn't start and a previously unmentioned cracked screen.

Ah well!

Indeed, luckily it was 4 miles from base, and en-route to destination for today

Looks like the rear brakes are fooked too, they only seem to be wiping half the disc.

Cor what luck that is! Are you going to try and take it on?

Someone down my road has a Fiat 131 under their carport. It failed an MOT in 2014 after 20 years off the road, maybe I should knock about it.

I said I would try and find a home for it for her, but haven't been able to get it out of my mind since, my neighbour had one when I was growing up, it's the proper one, early front end, steel wheels the whole bit :D

That would be great to see.

There can't be many that escaped the clutches of an over enthusiastic Max Power reader.

A friend has gone on holiday and asked me to look after his Turbo R while he's away. I've been pottering around in it over the weekend and it's most agreeable.

I went to look at a Corvair today. It had the start of a Cadillac mid engine conversion which looked pretty good but the rest of the shell was pretty shagged. I suspect it had a restoration in the States before it can over as there was bulging filler everywhere. The worst bit was the big crack on the C pillar. It also had a very poor door gap on the n/s door so I suspect it is starting to bow in the middle. If it was £500 I might of taken a punt on it but not for the £1500 he wanted.

A 131? Shit the bed, I’ve had one of those, a 131 Mirifiori Sport. Loved it. The rot killed it obviously.

You HAVE to knock and find out what the deal is....

I KNOW WHAT'S I GOT. APPRECIATING CLASSIC etc. etc.

I'll do a for sale thread properly later. I'm too hungover, as can be seen in that photo above.

The Mondeo is nice. 2.5 V6 manual Ghia X. MOT until next August, 120k miles, £650. Everything works as it should, but it needs a good clean (it's filthy).

Ok, it has aftermarket reverse sensors that seem to be borked (I might just cut the wires to them permanently) and the reverse lights aren't working (possibly as a consequence of the shitty sensors). Otherwise, it's been well looked after. Michelins on the front and Uniroyal Rainsports on the back. Goes like a bastard above 3k rpm, and also has an intergalactically long 6th gear. Handles very nicely too. :D

Also... BEIGE.

I managed to spend some time on the Cortina this afternoon but ended up further back than I started.  I've had problems with the slider mechanism on the seats and after about an hour of drilling and filing I managed to get one operating properly. The other not. To try to salvage some of the afternoon I decided to the fit the working (drivers seat) but when I went to bolt it in I found the nearside holes in the floor about a cm away from the holes in the bottom of the seats.

Even though I created a jig by welding bars in place when I took  the runners off the cortina seats It still doesn't fucking fit. Who knows why!

I'll need to cut the feet off the seat runners, add in a cm of metal then weld them all back up again. Can't wait for that but it probably explains why I had so many problems getting both runner mechanisms to disengage when I pull the lever. They're 1cm further apart than they should have been.

I had thoughts of getting it in for an MOT this week but that's shot to shite.

PRAISE BEIGE

Get a set of stainless steel pipes on it pronto.

I honestly thought 17-Coffees was in some kind of Merc V12 and you had taken ownership of his LS400 and also bought that other LS400 as a parts car.

This was the impression I got when I was getting drunken messages from the pub and then random sideways photographs of dark streets along with 'York is shite'.

The honourable member Mr Phil_lihp came to visit Skizzer HQ today.  We drank tea, chatted a lot about shite, did some test driving, kicked some tyres and tinkered with the lumpy Vauxhall.  We didn't exactly fix it but it was good to have an extra pair of hands and a brain to rule out some reasons for the dodgy running.

A grand afternoon - hope you got home safely and comfortably, great to see you, hopefully next time there will be more stuff running/legal to play with.

Fucking shit twat wanky bollocks.

The 740's previous owner had replaced the front tyres a couple of years ago, but sadly they're Wanli ditchfinders. The rears are Avons with early 2000s date codes.

Coming home from Chumley on the A49 behing Krujoe, Conrad and watagongcorporation, we're bobbing along at 50mph, it's been drizzling all day. Come to a crest, after which there's a short swoop down to some traffic lights. Start braking on the crest, and as I go over it a short, shiny patch on the road comes into view - concrete? Not sure, but not tarmac.

As soon as it hit the different surface, the car hydroplanes to the left, countersteer, hit the verge and bounce back the other way, slide over the centre line, then the surface is back to normal, it bites and normal service is resumed, quick correct to get the fuck back to the correct side of the road, and stop at the lights.

Fuck. That. Shit.

New tyres going on ASAP.

Walter Becker of Steely Dan died today. RIP. Radio 6 playing a lot. Loved them. Songs that told a story rather than " I love you, all night long woo woo baby yea yea," Repeat endlessly.

Changed The Aero's engine oil and filter during my lunch break today, which was the third time I have performed the aforesaid task on the car since I've owned it:

It only took me 30 minutes from start to finish. Experience counts for a lot, as does having a 13mm 3/8" drive socket (and corresponding socket spanner) and a decent cap-type oil filter remover to hand before commencing the job  ;)
