I've seen it about and it's certainly eye-catching and raising money for an excellent cause.  The chap's an ex-Rover mechanic and was very keen to see it saved.  If there's any better outcome for a car which came within hours of being scrapped, I don't know what it is.

I managed to launder the Rover keys last night, forgetting to take them out of my trouser pocket before slinging said trousers in the machine.  They went through a whole wash, spin and dry cycle, which hasn't done the sticker on the fob any good at all.  To my astonishment, however, the remote still works fine.  They smell nice too.

Went to look at a lexus rx 300 yester day. Vloody lovely car with 80,000 miles on a 55 plate. Up for £6.500. Was thinking of swapping my Japanese bus for it. Advertised has one family owned ,but had four owners. Full service history ,but cambelt not changed. So I walked away. Today I have fixed the central locking on my £400 celica and fitted my dash cam. Who needs a lexus anyway.

New HT leads on the way as one snapped changing the injector seals. Apparently the sunroof seal matches Mk2 Golfs so that could be useful. Then again that's information provided by Old Man so there's a 50% chance it's wrong.

 

Is the red reflective strip for the bumper available? I'm thinking of replacing it.

You can buy red reflective tape from Halfords but it isn't patterned like the original but it might be ok for a while.

Went to see a mate earlier who I havnt seen properly for a good few years, he messaged me to go up for a catch up, we were talking bikes as he has a garage full of old school stuff which we were looking at, he says to me this one might interest you and pulls back the cover on one of my dream bikes from my teens a kawasaki zx7r with around 8k on the clock, I started it up and it purred along beautifully with a nice deep rumble from its aftermarket exhaust, its got bigger breaks and lots of upgrades that I would do, now the problem is he follows on with make me a reasonable offer and its yours, I don't have a licence yet as I've been lazy this summer but I don't know whether I should make him an offer, mrs fp likes it as well which is nice, he also offered me his 2008 Fabia diesel for £300 as well

So I'm contracting in Derby right. Was going to buy a house down here, but could not agree with wife exactly what I was looking for (actually ended up having a blazing row about it some weeks back)

Client has been saying "there's loads of work to be had, we've just got to get our client to turn proposals and quotes into purchase orders...must be 2 more years work ....etc etc "

Following the row, I agreed that I would try and get a contract nearer home for a short while. But not much moving in Northwest. A few leads but nothing at an hourly rate I'm interested in working for, any all decent leads seemed to go dead.

Anyway. Yesterday, we had a meeting.  All the contractors and all the permies and project and account manager. 2 of us are being asked to drop to 3 days a week (I'm one of them) and 2 are dropping to zero hours and in another team 2 contractors with years of experience are being replaced by 2 permies with no experience and technical qualifications in totally unrelated areas.

Yesterday Afternoon I contacted the 2 recruitment agencies of the 2 most decent leads that I thought had gone dead, plus I had another RC contact me about 2 other roles.

By Lunch time today I have one interview and the other 2 RC's can't see why I shouldn't have interviews for the roles they are attempting to recruit for.

The interview is 20 miles 25 mins each way from home instead of 110 miles and 3 hours each way

The other 2 are an hour in the morning and an hour and 20 mins in the evening, but at a higher hourly rate, so swings and roundabouts. Worst case I end up with  less money (£6 an hour less than now) but an easy commute and other worst case, I end up with significantly more money (£6 an hour more than now but an extra 1 plus in the car every day)

Either way I wouldn't have to live away from home midweek for the first time in 8 years.

I look forward to Monday and the interview for the 1st.

A mate of mine had a ZX7R.  Lovely bike if you're riding it like a twat down your favourite back roads.  An absolute pain in the arse in town and on the motorway.

I did check the insurance yesterday when I got back, it's expensive but bearable but it's around 2-3 times more expensive than my rf600 (which I would be keeping anyway) but i was expecting that to be fair, mrs fp gave me the idea to buy it and tuck it away, im torn at the minute trying to think with my head not my heart

The wind caught the door of the Hiace as I got out of it last night and threw it wide open, snapping the rusty roofing nail that the previous owner had used to 'secure' the check strap to the A pillar and causing the hinges to hit the wing before I could grab it.  Yes, the nail was on my list of things I 'must get around to one day'.

 

On the plus side, as this has clearly happened in the past and the panels showed signs of it, my remedial work on the wing has resulted in an overall improvement as the wing and door now line up better (the slightly bowed wing pushed back into line by hand quite nicely) and I straightened out the twisted check strap bracket on the A pillar which meant I could insert a much more appropriately-sized bolt.  Result is much less slack in the strap when opening the door so it stays put easier, the bolt I've used looks 50x better than a rusty, bent roofing nail and is stronger, and the wing is just a little bit straighter than before.  There's a small crease in the door itself but there's so many little dings and marks it doesn't really show and it might already have had that anyway.  An unexpectedly good thing, then.

 

Alas, the phone I dropped whilst trying to grab the door did not fare so well and now has a screen which resembles crazy-paving.  First time I've ever done that, fortunately it was an old one work had going spare and probably fixable if I can find the right instructions and screen.

My V6 75 has a weird thing where as you use the height adjust on the seat, it feels like the base of the seat is twisting to the left, so you don’t sit square with the steering wheel. Does my head in.

 

Nicking the driver’s seat from my diesel as it’s a like-for-like swap but hopefully it will sit square!

No its a replacement SAIC wheel, and if I’ve got time today it’s coming out too - its really naff and doesn’t feel half as good as the proper wood wheel in my diesel. And the sandstone leather doesn’t match at all! I will probably swap the one from the diesel into the V6 but it will need a splash of dye on it too as some point,
