I spy two 75s as well :)

the guy we bought it off sells only what he likes, hence his forecourt has 3 Rover 75's (2 autos and 1 manual), an X308 Jaguar, a really mint MG TF and a mint, like spotless mint, 8000 mile Rover 114 Kensington.

there are also a BMW Z-something sports and a 318 on his front, but those were both taken in as part exchanges.

highlight though is the Volvo 262C which lives there. its RHD and a UK spec car without the vinyl roof from new, and as such its not really for sale cos if he sold it, he would never, ever be able to find another!!

plus his misses (who is very, very fond of the Volvo) would probably divorce him if he did sell it....

I have been watching 'Swedish Rally' yootoobs lately... They cover 2017 events with oldie cars.

Quite a few 2door 244 shells (scene tax = escort 2d) and they are rare in UK spec.

A friendly reminder that if there's a white bmw x5 sitting at 50 behind a lorry, one should probably not overtake it at 80.

Because the sun is shining I have now washed the blue Rover 75. Removing all the Cumbrian road cack and moss from standing for 9 months have yielded good results. Atlantic Blue Pearlescent apparently. Looks ok to me. Some of the giffer scrapes on the bumpers have polished out nicely.post-5532-0-20572700-1502363034_thumb.pngpost-5532-0-66047400-1502363092_thumb.jpeg

Circa 20k since this was fitted in 2009. An Ivor Searle remanufactured engine with receipts and (expired) warranty. Cam belt probably needs changing now despite low miles, because 8 years ago.post-5532-0-00930200-1502363145_thumb.jpeg

Full service a few weeks and 800 miles before the PO died according to the history. Which is good, but also sad. I sent a message to the son saying that I would restore the car and not just use it for parts ( which he thought might happen due to eBay sale) and he was made up! As was his mum. Dad died unexpectedly and the car holds a sentimental attachment for the family.

That's really nice. Lovely colour. As you know i like a bit of build data, yours is one of the last in that colour.

Seeing as I've just bought insurance on the Volvo, and Privilege refused to insure it due to its age, Old Man doesn't need to transfer his insurance to the Rover as I still have my policy on it for the time being. He cancelled his policy on the A4 and with the refund money he's taken the Rover for an MOT (two months early) as I already knew it was going to fail.

  Reason(s) for failure

  • Battery insecure (1.9.1)
  • Offside Front Seat belt anchorage prescribed area is excessively corroded sill (5.2.6)
  • Offside Rear Seat belt anchorage prescribed area is excessively corroded inner arch (5.2.6)
  • Offside Rear Seat belt anchorage prescribed area is excessively corroded wheel arch (5.2.6)

Advisory notice item(s)

  • Nearside Front Tie bar/rod has slight play in a pin/bush (2.4.G.2)
  • Offside Front Tie bar/rod has slight play in a pin/bush (2.4.G.2)

OK that's not too bad. Expected it to fail on sill and inner arch, but that rust bubble that was always there was also a fail. Battery insecure is nothing, I'd found that a couple of weeks ago and hadn't expected to need to sort it any time soon.

It'll be back tomorrow with a fresh ticket and then it'll be for sale if anyone wants it.

Auto, 58k with some service history, 5 owners, pretty much all the renewable items (and the HG) were changed 3000 miles ago.

Just sent my much loved C4 VTS to the bridge. Quick recap of my ownership

2012 bought (as a stop gap until I could decide what I wanted) with 97000miles black VTS 180 petrol, full leather, pan roof.

Fitted black Barry style wheels

Routine maintenance

Feb 2016 at 180000 car is crashed in the drivers side in work car park & written off.

Failed to find another car that I liked or another VTS with a pan roof which I now decided I had to have on any C4.

Bought car back from insurance company and bought a scrapped VTS HDI in black to repair my VTS.

Had car repaired and fully resprayed, however despite the actual repair being very good, the repray was pretty terrible all over and in particular on both rear side panels.

Car suffers a series of very expensive, hard to diagnose problems and had to be recovered several times.

July 2017 at 197000 clutch thrust bearing seizes, complete new clutch fitted. This is an 8 hour job and again expensive.

2 weeks later, clutch starts slipping and car is taken back for investigation by mechanic. Problem is found to be gearbox primary shaft bearing collapsing alowing oil to piss all over clutch. To fix it would be another clutch plus the gearbox rebuilt as no used boxes to be found and no recon boxes on the shelf locally.

I decided to call it a day as since being written off car has not been the same in reliability and also cosmetically. Not worth anything being a Cat D with 197000 miles. I know it's only a machine, but I really liked it and was upset to see it go.

Now down to XM as my only car, should be fun!

How about a new one?well 56 plate.

I phoned and asked if I might 'reappraise' my cover to breakdown/recovery??

£33*

... I'm sure some people just don't bother reading these ;)

Guy I know has just been informed his XF engine has lunched itself. This doesn't seem uncommon either. It's not even done 80,000 miles. FFS, my mini did over 90,000 before dying and it didn't cost £6000 to fix. So I think it will be up on eBay soon as I doubt it's worth that much even when sorted as it's a good few years old now. Why can't someone like Jaguar do the basics right?

Today I have mostly been enacting a scorched earth policy on a Rhododendron of implausibly large proportions and then burning the entrails. Lung cancer here I come.

Is that the V6 diesel?  They're notorious for being a bit shit.

Yup, as you say the reputation is terrible. When he bought it I was a bit surprised (usually has big German or Volvo) and thought it was a hell of risk at the time. He always goes for four-five year old cars of high spec and keeps them three or four years. The last few have been good to him but this one has had all sorts of issues. He did ask if we could swap the engines ourselves (he has helped me with engine swaps on the Capri and minis in the past), I politely declined but part of me would be interested to have a go.

Probably need to have its injectors coded at a minimum. Plus no doubt other things that it calibrates and adapts too.

Replace it with an XUD?

Sera has departed for Wales via very grumpy Shiply driver (not grumpy with me, just telling me how much it actually costs to run his business and grumbling about being asked to move the wheels for free with it when they didn't fit inside the car).

RX8 has had the brake calipers G-clamped to a workbench and wire-brush-wheeled to shinyness for a bit. They're probably rusty again now. Goal is to get that delighful vehicle rolling this weekend and out of the garage, so I can change the ATF on the silver SLK.

Have forgotten what the car I ordered looks like. Resisting temptation to go back to the dealer and peer in showroom.

Rover is back from the MOT station with a years ticket and the sill and inner arch plated.

The hole in the rear wheel arch is still there because they didn't have any filler.

Old Man now wants to wob it himself before it's put up for sale. I don't really agree with that but whatever. I've already had to stop him using chemical metal instead of actual filler...

Posted

No, and I don't agree with it either. I don't have a choice though as for some reason my mum isn't even insisting on a proper job (usually would). They don't care about it being done properly purely becuase it's being sold on.

Sand back to good metal, get some old-school fibreglass on that. Bit of chicken wire and a copy of the Sun.
