I have a spare unpainted Mondy grille and a spare badge. Do I paint it Rimini blue as a genuine spare, black to match the top of the bumper for a custom look yo!, or dark grey as an in 'joke' for Sierra base owners that about 20 middle aged folk on this forum would actually get?

I say stick with Blue. But then I'm boring.

Base model should have a grey grille.  Even if Ford weren't doing that by the time the Mondeo came out!

Grey, just because.

Grey! Just leave it in primer so when the joke gets boring you can just buzz the colour over it

Just back from a mammoth day dropping off he ZX and picking the high performance* car here.

Drove back fine. Some slight hot start issues but I think it's got some resistance somewhere.

Hairnet apparently knows this car quite well...?

Just finished giving the Laguna a good clean ready and took a few photos ready for its advert. It still looks pretty modern and sharp, despite its getting on for 12 years old now.

I keep procrastinating about selling it, but needs must. I'm going to be sad when the day comes to get rid of it. :(

Not something you usually hear from a Laguna II owner!

The bloke fixing up my old Dolly 1850 has been informing me of it's alarmingly growing number of holes. The chassis leg is welded up but the remainder is tender, as are the floors down either side, the sills will hole if prodded hard enough, the boot floor under the fuel tank is tin-foil thin and the top of the front bulkhead vanished under prodding and decent metal to weld to was not found for quite some distance. Seems most of the car was held together with paint, underseal and hope.

I'm glad I gave it to somebody who can weld and who's plan is (as mine was) to get it back on the road at minimum cost, I reckon it'd have become a parts donor for a Sprint unless somebody was mental enough to sink thousands into the thing...

Owing to the Saab being out of action awaiting repairs to the ABS ECU (and me needing to go somewhere) the local friendly garage proprietor lent me a 57 reg Mondeo. 150K mile diesel loan car so wasn't exactly expecting a lot. I was pleasantly surprised. It felt very tight with rapid* acceleration, light clutch and gear change. Actually quite took to it which I didn't expect TBH. Not a fan of modern diesels for obvious reasons, but it seemed very capable and handled it's mileage (plus multiple non givvashit previous loan car drivers) very well.

There. I said it. :-)

It's a rover 213 - I wouldn't be surprised if the pdi checklist doesn't mention corrosion !

Who said Smart Roadsters can't be practical? It was just a hairs width too high to fit in the boot.

Oh not got one of those yet...

The pillar drill is great & I have the normal bench grinder already.

The daily focus has deposited a load of PAS fluid on the drive. PAS pump is very noisy.

Traced it to the pump pressure switch leaking, apparently this is common? It's leaking out the end of the electrical connection

Can't get one today and I need to do a 10 or 15 mile run later this afternoon.

Two choices, either just plug it back in and keep topping the fluid up, should do 15miles ok? Or bodge it with silicone in the connector leaving the wiring unplugged?

PAS Pressure sensor (to raise revs on full lock).

Notorious leaking on Proton SAVVY [not mine, actually] ..... cap off & Forget  :-P

The pressure switch (probably) just raises the idle when you hit full lock to prevent stalling, you're fine to run without it plugged in.

I'd personally put the silicone over the inlet, it's more likely to seal then as pressure will push it into the housing rather than away from it.

Will a bolt not fit in?

Possibly, though I don't think I've anything in stock.....I'll have a look

Not really news, but in the absence of a more appropriate thread, came across this neat little animation of how a rotary engine works, something I previously had no idea about.  Clever, though you can see why worn rotor tips would cause starting problems, it's so much simpler than a piston engine though.

I managed to drill out a bolt that was seized in the pannier rack for my bike today, only problem is I snapped another one doing it so I still need to get a part. But at least it's now a part that is still sold & much cheaper.

Will a bolt not fit in?

That was such an amazing shout that I spent a good half hour searching my stockpiles of old bolts.

Unfortunately it's quite a wide thread and I had nothing to fit. I then recalled all the things ive binned that would have fitted, such as the broken lower temp sensor for my zzr1100s radiator. Moral of story, don't throw anything out...

In an act of desperation I tried filling the connector block part with solder. Refitted it to the car and it's still leaking, as predicted.

So I've ordered a new one and refilled the PAS fluid. The old stuff needed changed anyway as it was black. Steering now lighter and silent, but I've since read Ford don't recommend using off the shelf fluid (I bought cheap halfords own brand) but feck it anything is probably better than what came out or none at all....

I've probably done enough on this car now to warrant it's own thread but let's be honest, I wouldn't read it myself. It's a flipping focus...

If you're going to chuck the part, possibly could get away with filling the connector end with epoxy resin, tigerseal or metal putty stuff?

the hardly dangerous is all in one piece, and is for the first time in 2 years it is actually tested and road legal.

it has done 20 miles this year, which is 19.5 miles further than last year. plus the billet wheel that Kerry wanted for the motor cycle is now actually fitted on the bike.

Hallo chaps. Not been on for a couple of months, no fault of this place but checking Tapatalk daily kinda fell by the wayside with broken forums and the summer season starting at work.

So... whats new? The Cavalier is now off the road due to horrendous insurance quotes, so daily duties have fallen to the newcomer which I'm sure I introduced before I had a bit of a break. It's now done about 2k in my ownership and as it appears to have cemented itself in the fleet I booked it in for a cambelt - due at 90k/10yrs but still on it's original belt at 16 years - it's now back and continues to impress in ways I didn't think a modern Volvo could. Fuel economy is shit but it goes like fuck so swings and roundabouts really. Next investments will be tracking, front droplinks and an aircon re-gas, and a boot release solenoid if I come across one.

Gratuitous pics after I cleaned it during the week. I'll catch up on other threads in a bit. Peace x5a3a34ae3fa2bf65863bfdb513364d64.jpgf247f12b0c055cc5d2d43b960a715437.jpg

For the last week the MIL has been on holibobs in Greece somewhere. At the same time our garden was being done so I took the opportunity to put the Visa on her driveway to make more room for the gardener to get in and out.

I had blocked in hers and her daughters cars on the drive but they are due back tomorrow so I went to pick it up today.

I got dropped off by Mrs Imp and started Meg up. She started straight away but died after a few seconds. After that, nowt. I kept trying thinking I had flooded it but after a while realised that there wasn't a smell of fuel. The driveway was really steep and I started to suspect the fuel wasn't getting to the carb. To add further misery I now had a flat battery.

I went home to get my jump leads. No sign of them. Okay, the towrope. No sign of that either. Must've used them on a collection mission and not brought them back. Drove to Shipley but they aren't in the MR2 which is the last dodgy collection I did. No idea then.

Therefore, I go home, this time with my mate whose house the MR2 is at, get a airport strap (used for towing planes) that i once used to hold up aafence and chop down a tree, along with a battery charger with quick start boost and an extension cable.

Got there, dragged the Visa up the drive, tried a couple of bump starts (probably out of practice these days) to no avail so wired the battery up to the mains in the house and it started straight away.

Said to my mate who was in the car when it started, "Fancy driving the Jag up the hill" and he replied "Fuck that, I'm taking this beast" and he revved the shit out of it, did an impressive wheelspin considering the vehicle and drove off.

After that it was uneventful. Car got back okay. Was just a couple of miles (if that) but was a relief. Was worried that it was going to be there tomorrow morning at the rate things were going wrong. Still no idea where the jump leads and tow rope ended up.
