Spotted earlier, number plate obfuscated as spoke to the owner. He has owned it since new when he paid £11k for it from the showroom in 1988, 1.4 GL. Immaculate condition, no rust. Was going to say if you ever sell....but he said he's taking it with him when he goes!

Not everything is rosy in the P4 garden, but I was reminded of the niceties of some of Rover's design when I adjusted a front wheel bearing this morning.

Yes I now have a C15 with a cake tin on top. Sorry no collection thread, it was just a quick trip up to Swindon on the train and a much slower trip back. Ok I did stop for fuel but forgot to take a picture, haute cuisine was consumed at Leigh Delamere

I did not stop for long as the seat fabric gave me a headache

In other news, my 2CV met a rather interesting friend today.

First day with proper sunshine and I have managed a short trip out in the MX5 just because I wanted too.

Oh it was sunny for my drive too. I didn't need to go and milk really, but needed an excuse for a quick, sunny hoon.

I have no defence, a convertible on the drive. My todo list and the rest of the world can wait.

23 months ago, I stopped here for a picture. It inspired Vulgalour to do a lovely painting of this moment.

I failed to match the angle today, and it was also a lot sunnier! But much less rusty...

Took delivery of this today (well my garage did). It was on Retrorides and I paid £50 for it. Someone made a comment about needing a dustpan, having crawled around underneath it it doesn't look bad at all, but we will see!

A few years ago I wouldn't have bothered going to the trouble of trying to "save" a mark 3 Fiesta from the likely hood of going to the scrapyard!

Liking that Pete. Really want to have a drive and then take a polishing mop to it.

I might have some Ford wheel trims for this.

I've got some T-cut here laying around doing nowt...

I shall take you up on that, you are very welcome to have a drive of it. I would be happy to purchase some wheel trims off you.

I may need a drivers door too as it there is a large gap at the top as though someone has pulled the top of the door to get in!

Nope - Mk2 and 3 Fiestas and mk4 Escorts could come with cream coloured wheeltrims. There've been two mk2 Fiesta 1.1Ls in my family that had them.

Suddenly thought I have not heard anything about the Mazda since I dropped it off on Friday lunchtime. Wasn't really expecting anyting as it wasn't booked in to be worked on until yesterday (Tuesday) so not really worried. However, I thought I'd check to see if they have MOTd it yet and what it failed on...

Passed on Friday! The only bit I was worried about (rust on the o/s cill right at the back where it's had a new wheelarch, the new bit has gone crusty but the bit underneath is fine!) got an advisory. May have to ring them tomorrow and see how everything else is going!

Also see it has done 460 miles in my year and a bit of ownership! I am appalled!

That doesn't look too bad at all tbh.

When I saw the wires hanging out of the column cowling, my first thought was "I bet the drivers door's been bent back to gain access". Typical joyrider damage. Is the steering lock broken too, or did they not manage to get that far?

I don't want to cast aspersions on your new mates memory, but if he paid £11,000 for it, he was robbed.

I would have thought more like list of £8.5/9 , I'm sure £11k would have bought an RS Turbo!

Just came on here to post that - Hunnit Fiddy bucks on C&C, so that's an even bigger bargain than first thought.

Had an extra half an hour to spare yesterday whilst waiting for SWMBO to return with grass seed (thanks* for the row of small hills mr mole) so swapped the fuel filter out on the Landcruiser, that hadn't been done for a good while, a small teaspoonful of manky dirty shite in the bottom of the old one, but not enough to lift the float to put the ''water in fuel filter'' warning light on, hope it isn't growing stuff in the fuel tank.

Primed it about 30 pumps on the plunger till solid, non starter, oh bugger, went back and found i could prime it another 20 or so strokes, never had that before either the filter's full or it isn't, started immediately and runs fine.

Last thing i need is trouble with the common rail of doom.

I don't know tbh its one of those spur of the moment purchases, all will be revealed! I will get one of two phone calls from the garage, it will either start with " your cars ready" or "are you sitting down"!

"Do you go to uni?" No

"Do you have another job?" No

"Do you want more hours?" Yes

"Do you want more money?" Yes

I was talking to one of my managers last night when I was in buying food from my work, after 6 months of delivering round bread and 3 months of it being my only source of income I may be about to be better off than I was before I started. And won't have to spend all of my time running 20 year old Volkswagens into the ground anymore. Just have to wait and see I suppose.

You are right, September 89 catalogue says only £9,152. Xr3i with anti lock brakes was £11k.

Just been and got the Mazda back. All serviced, gearbox service, cambelt changed and MOT'd even washed and hoovered. Bit pricey(?) at £479 but I don't think that's bad really?

However, my run of bad luck with garages continues: as the chap is driving the car back to me, I notice a scuff on the drivers side front bumper - bollox! Wasn't there on Friday when it was delivered and I say so. Instantly, I am expecting denials/excuses and getting the old fashioned 'fob off'.

Didn't happen! They took it back into the workshop for the body guys to have a look, declared that it looks like it has happened while with them and they will get the correct paint in (delaying tactic I know as it is all mixed on site nowadays) and get it sorted for me. So while it's a bit of a pisser, getting done at no charge to me and they'll lend me a car etc while it's done.

I like that lots. Not the scrape obviously, but they way they are dealing with it.

Also taxed it - £270 for the year or £300 if done in 6 months. So full year it was... I have saved myself £30, er, bargain?

Reading that brochure page , reminded me what a half-arsed piece of crap Mk4 Escort/Orion 'mechanically controlled anti-lock braking system ' was. I had a company E reg 1.6i Orion with it fitted and it was absolutely useless, obviously only worked on the front brakes, because they all had rear drums. The only indication you had it was there was a feeling like warped discs when you stood on the brakes- altogether worse than the C reg Mk3 XR3i I had before. That went for pretty much everything else too , from the quality of the interior to the fact it had rust scabs at 6 months old and 20,000 miles.

On here we moan a lot about Project D(ep)rive, but Ford had been at it for years.

My 205 auto initially failed its MOT yesterday on a knackered cv gaiter.  It was easier and about the same overall cost to get the garage to replace the driveshaft rather than fight a new gaiter into position.  New shaft fitted this morning and now passed with no advisories.  Somehow I have managed to get three car insurances due within a few weeks, and the 205's tax.  With property maintenance caused by Doris, this month will be expensive.
