Feck sake. EML was merrily flashing away while I just carried on driving to work. Code reader (yes, one lives in the Laguna) says P0300 and P0355 - random misfire and cylinder 5 coilpack connection. Wierdly the engine temperature gauge stayed on minmium and occasionally flicked up and down. Hopefully it's just when it's misfiring it stops sending the coolant information over the CAN bus and so the dash stops showing that info.

Quick Google says cylinder 5 is under the intake manifold. So a disassembly job to get to it. :(

The new* Saab now has new Saab branded fully synthetic oil, a new oil filter, new brake pads and a new air filter. The handbrake has also been adjusted and works as it should. Only 5,000 miles to the next service. The next service will also include a full transmission fluid drain and refill. Am going to look after this car!

Oh dear, have you got a spare car yet?

No unfortunately, which is why I've had 2 failures (windscreen wiper motor and coilpack) only since you had the Saab! It's possessed* and knows when to choose its moments. :angry008:

It has been juddering occasionally when coming to a junction at idle but only ever when cold and usually only once at the start too. I always assumed it was something like the lock-up converter clutch solenoid being a bit slow (i.e. related to the double bump I get setting off from a stop which I think is low-line pressure) when it was really cold. However as the roughness at the moment is identical to what happened there now I think it was the coilpack giving me a warning that it was starting to get a bit sickly.

I seem to remember this one being replaced not long before I bought it.

Fuckit. We are going on holiday to Malaysia on Tuesday for a month. No money, no worries. One life etc. Living the dream.

Wouldnt mind betting that transit with the volvo on the back is about 300kg overweight

I had a good 9.30-3 sesh on the Cortina today. I got less than expected done as always but I got the discs, pads and arb bushes changed.

There was a lot of swearing. The panda which I need to move in and out while working on the cortina is making a slight worrying rattling noise. That car totally hates me.

The garage I rent off had a an 18month old old Suzuki Celerio with 11k on it getting a clutch put in it after the old dear owner had burnt it out. Impressive. They're ordered a kit off eBay and when it turned up it was 1: used, 2: not for that car. Good job..

I have been thinking about buying an older single car transporter, which are best for carrying capacity?

Am I correct it is 3500KG less chassis cab unit less body weight = payload?

Yes,

Most recovery trucks I've looked at come in around the 2000 kilo mark* so carrying capacity 1500 kilo,

Don't forget to deduct winch tools and other items your carrying.

*As long as the deck is not made of girders.

Sent the wife out to go down to the only ECP that had coilpacks and spark plugs for the v6 in stock. £72 after discount code. :(

Next "fun" is the drive home. Hopefully it doesn't cut out if the coil pack is failing/failed. I mean it still has 5 other cylinders that work...

Camry's been picked-up by a local garage:

Camry progress? by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

They're going to stick it in for an MoT and let me know what needs doing to get it roadworthy again. Or perhaps just say why the hell am I bothering.......

But it has two rear wipers of course you must bother

I can even see from here that one of them is missing though!

Got back ok in the end. Arse clenching moment of a mile section of motorway out of the city I had to do - roadworks with narrow lanes and no hard shoulders. Fair play to the car though as it got me back.

Coil from ECP is wierd though. Website said Hella, box is labeled Bougicord and coil inside says Delphi. Reckon someone swapped a cheapy/knock-off into the box and returned it?

What did you get for it in the end?

£150 and just sold the Proton for £95

Sounds like standard ECP to me!

Right. My only chance this weekend to fix this heap of garlic flavoured piece of shit is to go out now and get going tonight. That way I have a hour or two tomorrow to finish it off in the morning. Just 0C to -1C ATM. Not only cold for me, but cold for bits of plastic I have to undo. :(

Supposed to take around 1.5hrs - so 3hrs at my speeds.

Why do I do this to myself? Why didn't I just go down to my nearest VAG dealer and sign their paperwork.

The warm glow inside of fixing it yourself will keep you warm...

My lad waved goodbye to his VXR today, WBAC had it. I thought he'd be sorry(er) to see it go, but he's made up as the running costs weren't exactly cheap.

Posted

I've half considered WBACing my Abarth 595 but I'm still in too deep really and I do really like it.

Work are ready for a new van so I've a chance on a 14 plate Nissan NV200 for probably 3 grand or something, and I quite fancy getting it to replace my T25 as a camper, but one I'd actually want to drive longish distances. TBH I might just buy it anyway and run it daily anyway.

Not much in the way of shite / project work this week. Engine parts arrive for the Kallista tomorrow and some Mini parts too, but what to dive into first.......?

Oh, the daily needs a service too. Have a good weekend all.

A neighbor of ours has bought a new car. She thought of getting a Skoda Octavia 4x4, the obvious choice in Austria.

But in the end, she bought one of these:

Ext_15.jpg

That´s a SsangYong XLV. And despite it´s interesting* looks, it´s really quite interesting. Why?

Because it´s quite small (444 cm long), but very roomy inside. Huge boot, a lot of space on the rear

seats. And it´s available as petrol or diesel, with 2WD or 4WD, with manual or automatic gearbox, so

there is a lot to choose and a version for almost everbody.

She bought the XDI (diesel) 4WD manual and that´s 25.990€ with the highest trim-level. Compared to

competitors, that´s really cheap. Ok, it might depreviate a lot faster than a VW Tiguan, but she plans to

drive her cars as long as possible, so she does not care.

So after I took a look at it, I have to admit I think that´s a very underrated competitor in the small-SUV-class.

Mrs. Lukas likes her Honda CR-V better though.

I can relate to this grump! I'd planned to get the meriva empty ready for sale tomorrow morning. Then amys off out at 2pm until Sunday at 11,I have Charlie so no car stuff then. Then Sunday was sell the meriva and do hoover stuff as amys off to her dad's Sunday night.

Now the Xantia has felt left out, so Sunday afternoon will probably be spent hoping I can do something about the clutch cable, and filling it full of the tools I may need to fix it at the roadside. Then hoovers. Fuck it, I might book Monday morning off...
