Do you think an apprentice engineer used his cock for a template?

Bloody car is still going over 10 years in ownership

I got a lift home form a Christmas gathering in a 13 plate Ecoboost Fiesta today, and it was surprisingly good actually. Pretty comfy for a bodykitted sporty looking thing.

I was chatting to the owner a bit, and he was even aware of this place!

I do like the 'tricky triple' 1.0 B299 Fiesta. A lovely 'thrash me' soundtrack (for a modern). Got to keep it on the boil though, or else it seems slower than a Christmas eve supermarket queue.

Had a focus with that engine on hols last year and can second the on the boil analogy. Or as I would describe it, bouncing the pistons on the inside of the bonnet.

Interesting* that Ford Ecoboost 3 cylinder: the cam belt is "inside" the engine where a cam chain would be expected, running in the oil. It will be interesting to see how that turns out.........

I've heard about quite a lot of failures on those ecoboosts. I think they're fine on Fiestas but they must be stressed like a nut loaf at christmas in a Focus or worse a Mondeo.

The worst one is BMW putting the timing chain at the back of their 2 litre diesel engine on a rear wheel drive car as it's a "non serviceable item" then it turns out there's an inherent tensioner fault that requires the engine to come out to fix.

I seem to remember reading on here that someone said that the Ford 1.8TDDi did that too.

O/T.

Last week I was at a friend's house. I remarked on his old style Christmas lights (the kind we had as kids before glaring and soulless LEDs took over). He said they were the exact set he had around the tree as a lad in the 80s.

Inspired by him, I just got these on eBay. I'm a little embarrassed to admit that I cried a bit when they went on for the first time. My old Dot would put these around the windows every year until one year she didn't. I guess they must have declared and called it a night. Anyways, we're back in business.

I hope y'all have a lovely Christmas. Thanks for being my friend. x

Decided 2 days off best spent replacing front wheel bearing on the mondeo...finally its quiet.

Could you tell it needed doing by jacking up and turning/wobbling it (sorry I know this should be in stupid Q thread, but while we're here)?

Reason I ask is mine is making noises like a duff bearing although they didn't pick it up on MOT.

We had those exact Woolies lights.

Although if you got them to turn out without replacing at least two bulbs, you're a better man than I.

I reckon over the years we spent approx. £500* on spare bulbs to keep a £7.99 set of lights working.

Went out to deliver a final Xmas card in the AMC.  As it is mild and forecast even more so tomorrow, decided to go in the AMC.

It cut out at the first three sets of lights (3 times at the first one) - just as I was trying to set off.  Got better as it warmed up and I learnt how to catch it right.

Posted card through door, but recipients arrived and invited me in for a cup of tea.  Upon emerging, found the rear lights aren't working - bah!  Then remembered I have taken to carrying two of those emergency flashing led beacons, thankfully they have a steady mode too -

Focus made £205 on ebay. Name of winning bidders suggests it's going for spares.

I was watching that and forgot to see how it ended. Not too bad a price really so as long as they cough up, job's a good un.
