This afternoon I will mostly be lying underneath the Mercedes to ready it for welding .

Thats my plan for tomorrow. 3 weekends in a row now.

Drove The Volvo to work and back yesterday evening/this morning, which was the longest journey it had undertaken since late October. Here it is parked in a nest of vans at Basildon Tesco:

Dog-slow and invisible to roadtards in modern cars, unlike The Aero, but mega comfortable and nice to drive, especially when I feel the need to vicariously relive the early to mid 1990s  8)

The 'perfectly working' Scenic 4x4 I was considering buying last week is now being advertised as having the prop taken off. Just as well then.

What caravan have you got? I like an old van.

It's a four berth jubilee courier from about 1988. It's not that bad. If not cosmetically lovely.

I have taken my BMW 328i E36 to the garage to have it MOTed but they say it needs some welding. They do the odd MOT patch but say it has been patched before and now needs doing properly and is too big a job for them. I am not after a restoration just a safe legal patch up for the MOT that will last more than one MOT.

Anybody know a garage I can take it too? It still has MOT until 5th January so I can drive it there.

Gotta be honest once 'round one' of MOT patches have rotted out its usually pretty serious..... Often patching it again is 85% as involved as chopping it all out and doing it properly

The last thing I needed was another car,

so why the hell have I bought this shite!! :?

Because you could! And hopefully you'll return it to the road where it belongs. And yes I have some affection for old Vivas as I have owned about five in the past.

The 3 series looks pretty chewy I'd be tempted to clean it up yourself so any prospective welder can see what they're in for. The reason they won't touch it is when you start a job like that the work involved is a bit of an unknown .

While out mooching today I had a look at a 2.0 tdci galaxy. 59 plate, 60,000 miles. Very nice. Salesman tells me it doesn't have a dpf. Not sure myself. Having said that he did try to steer me towards a Renault grand espace or something. While looking there was an old chap with a really nice w reg primera a looking around as well. Got talking to him thinking about giving him more than his part ex. Turns out he was looking for a car for his grandson and wouldn't part with his primer a for any of this modern crap apparently.

I know a very good welder, but whether he's still talking to the garage is beyond me. Isleworth west London (2cv and Citroen place, but they do my mercedes and fiat and the owner and his wife are coming over to my place for dinner on Sunday ). Phone lee on 0208 560 3267 and say I told you to ask - if it's close enough.

Edit, looks like it's a new sill needed, maybe more than they will want to do. But Ricky (welder) is very mobile.

Just been sent this from my wife's uncle, he went to get a part-worn for something and they had this there

Someone had clearly got their money's worth out of that

Needless to say he didn't take the opportunity to purchase that particular one.

And to think I share roads with the sort of person who considers that acceptable...

Or used on a track day set of tyres.

But unfortunately, it's probably off a car on the road.

I am picking up for spare alloys for the MV6, for £40 on my way home tomorrow. NOT told wife yet, and not mentioned the plan to spend £200 on winter tyres and £80 (max) on Checking and potential Realignment of suspension.

Appear to have royally pissed off the seller of said wheels, because I said I would be at his house in Wigan between 5 and 6 pm.

Left Derby at 3:10 and my phone free sat nav was telling me 4:45 as an eta.

At 7:20 I was sitting on the Thelwall Viaduct with a dead phone, (charger in car fecked for some reason) in a traffic queue where I'd just covered 25 Miles in 2 hours in, listening to BBC radio Manchester telling me that the queue went to Junction 24, where I'd need to get off, and so I decided to come off the M^ at the M62 and head for home up the M57.  When I got home at 8:10, I plugged in the battery off my wife's phone (she has the same phone as me), and texted him to explain and say that I'd come and get the wheels on Wednesday.  Apparently this has really upset his plans for the weekend.

Well sorry, but 5 hours in a car to do a 2 hour journey trumps any fucking inconvenience, my not extending my trip by another 2 hours might have caused you.

That could well have sounded like a wimpy excuse for not going; seems to be the time of year for budgetary constraint.

I've just been told by the third seperate EBay buyer this week that they are arranging their Mothers funeral!

Cynical? Moi!

Second week of my hour and a half commute in the polo, sdi power is terrifying on the m62 when trying to get to 70 from 50 in 3rd, 4th or 5th. It just makes more noise.

It'll get an oil and filter today though.

X350 is due an MoT and I've bought a pair of refurbished track control arms so hoping tester will let me promise to fit them (in boot) between Christmas and new year as it's not going to happen this morning. Let's hope it doesn't fail on much else.

My 1.9d mk3 golf (more or less the same donkey?) wasn't that bad, I commuted up and down the m1 and a load of country lanes in it for years. Thinking back it was one of my favourite cars ever.

Are you sure the polo is running right?

Motorway was shut down due to someone throwing themselves off bridge after doing in his kids and wife from what I gather. Also an incident in Borrowash and Langley mill/Eastwood. I left Heanor at 5 past 6. Got to Beeston 10 mile away at just gone 8. Work even removed the Derby run last night too.

Wifes new S90 is being delivered on the 20th Jan next year, which means my Accord coupe will be surplus to requirements when I get the hand me down brake disc consuming Lexus.

Any interest in a Raffle for the stylish* japanese (american) GT coupe at £5 a ticket?
