Any good?

It's a Renault.

It's a modern Renault.

It's diesel.

It's automatic.

Good luck.

I'm tempted to offer to buy it :D

My Civic (2005 1.6 executive with heated leather seats, semi-functional air-con and no aux jack) went to the garage for a service. My courtesy car was a Civic (2009 1.8SE with heated leather seats, semi-functional air-con and no aux jack AND REVERSING SENSORS).

It made my Civic feel very old in comparison and it wore it's miles far better. It's faster than my car, but more economical, and it's less buzzy at speed because it's got a 6-speed gearbox, and the stereo is better, also the PAS ASes considerably better than my car and the pedals lack the somewhat obtrusive weight of the older car's. I also liked the spaceship style interior and while the exterior is a bit love/hate it's doesn't look as old of a design as it actually is.

Anyway, I gave it back along with £410 and walked away with my old Civic which now runs fine. They did nothing that I couldn't have done myself on the cheap but the money had to be spent as I'd never bother and my parents would go mental if they caught me trying to DIY the thing given the state of my other cars. Apparently the rear brake pads are also at the end of their life, I declined their offer to do them for an extra £150 because I enjoy not starving to death at Christmas time. It did get washed though, something I'd not done since August, probably another £100 on the bill...

I've had both a 2003 and I've currently got a 2007 Civic. I drove the latest model Civic a while back and it's again lightyears ahead of mine! They did bland down the dash on the newer ones though :(

Incidentally my mum has had 3 generations of Civics too. So pretty much from the age of around 5, I've grown up with Civics....

The wife has made a lot of noises about her friends new Civic Estate. I'm going to guess that we're going to be continuing this tradition of owning Civics for a while!

You can get those civics for less than 2 grand now. I do like them .

I'm not going to deny, mine is at 133k and has got quite a lot of rattles nowadays...

There is quite a few >180k diesel examples about which is reassuring. Also the plastic interior seems to last well durability wise. Unlike a lot of German cars with their soft touch plastics! Also pretty much no Spares and Repairs examples on eBay either.

I'm hopeful that mine has got quite a few miles left in it. I'll be disappointed if I don't get another 40k without major part failure.

They all have the rust trap above the windscreen. The interior is a nice place to be. They got slagged off because they've got a beam rear axle so they don't handle or use quite as well apparently . If I'm doing a ton of miles I'd rather have comfy seats and a smart dashboard to look at if it's all the same.

've just been offered a ten year old Megane 1.9 petrol (?) auto for £150. Is a mates 92 year old Dads who is giving up driving. Always been serviced at the same garage, really well looked after less than 60K on the clock.

Any good?

Ignore everything I said. Reading fast I read that as a 92 Renault and even though you said megane I was thinking of the 19. Yes I'm a Twat and for the best idea of what to do read cavcrafts post!

Cornhill? I like tiny franchise dealerships in the middle of nowhere.

Well.... got the MG ZT back after the suspension overhaul. The LFG left it on the drive this evening. Am expecting a bill north of £300 on Monday. Still. It's British and it's mine. Ho Hum

this and the tank under the front seats means you get magic seats which are fappin brilliant- not to mention rear doors which open a full 89* which makes loading a bike, potted plants, elderly relantives quite easy

The horrible MGF is getting slightly less horrible each day, but yesterday I poked the wishbones. 2 new wishbones needed. Snapped 2 subframe bolts. Sigh.

And a C-Pillar that is guaranteed they bash their head into when they enter or exit the car

Leave them at garages I bet.

Which reminds me, I keep meaning to double check that F1 auto centres put mine back in the Saab after it had tyres.

Or they don't keep it in the car at all.

I often have to phone customers asking where it is because I need it to remove wheels with, and a lot of folk don't like leaving it in the car because it's a key! God knows what they'd do if they got a puncture.

The other fave trick is to keep it in a cubby hole somewhere in the cabin, but not bother to tell me where.

When I looked at the rainagain Punto I was a bit concerned when I saw a locking wheel bolts box in the glovebox, but relieved to find the locking bolts still in it. Rainagain had read the legendary thread too, and deleted them.

There's a Susan Boyle one somewhere. A hooray prize for the first poster as I can't be chuffed to post it.

Advisory Items: Stop chuvvering SuBo as your rear springs look shagged oot.

Went on a fossil-hunting trip the other day.

First thing I found was this lot post-17481-0-87423200-1481368465_thumb.jpeg

No wheels though. VAG?

Aye, they 'aint cheap, I think its £60 an hour in labour Usually I go for cheaper independent places but the car always leaves Cornhill functional, not always the case elsewhere!

Finished welding up the sub frame mounts on the lotto W124            1-0

Took for a wee test run and clipped a kerb squashing the wheel trim  1-1

Sorted wheel trim with hammer, tie-wraps, locking wire                     2-1

Think I will quit while I am ahead for today.
