The Toledo froze in 4hrs today in Stirling. Great fun*

Glass was duly cleaned

I saw you near Denny, was in the 205 but I don't think you clocked me.

Well the LFG has inspected the MG ZT broken rear suspension arm and have decided to drop the whole subframe out (as Barry Cade wisely suggested) to replace all the crusty bits. So... Two new suspension arms complete with various bushes it is then.... The rust has done it's worst. Am glad I didn't attempt this on my drive TBH. The car has earned the name of 'Warrior' now, and will have discreet badges on the lower front wings to proudly display his new name. 'Warrior' as per the heroic first world war horse that was dubbed in the press of the time as ' the horse that the Germans couldn't kill' . Rather fitting.

However, most people will just think you wanted an L200 wankchariot instead.

Little bit of engine news since I just got back from the engine shop and am £180 lighter.

Renault - was two muddled bearing caps.  They gave everything the once over which meant taking the head off and disturbing the liners but now it's all sorted and ready to go once my new head gasket arrives.  They fitted the spare liner gaskets I'd kept just in case.  We should be ready to go on getting this to run pretty rapidly now as it was deemed otherwise fit and healthy.

Rover - head returned with 4 thou skim, general clean up and all ready to refit.  The head gasket kit arrived for it today too so I just need to get the special sealant and a couple of oil filters so we can get that sorted.

All in all, bit of a relief to be at this point now, should make some good progress on both cars pretty soon.  The only awkward bit is going to be getting the engine crane home so I can refit the Renault's engine once I've finished putting all the extra bits and bobs back on it.

That's a good price for all that work to be done.

Understood. But not the case really. Having not the slightest desire to own an L200 it is just a homage to the actual horse (google it, well worth the effort) and the fact that the MG ZT/Rover 75 survives in such numbers due to folk like us on here.

Replacement 020 4T paid for to go on the Scirocco. Should be able to deal with the stock 1.9tdi engine conversion, but I'll need to do a gearbox conversion in the long run once the derv gets MOAR BOOOOOSTTT.

Octavia needs a new cam cover gasket (it leaks), thermostat housing (it leaks) and two new brake discs (worn).

So that's December's pay spent.

You should do a write up on the timing belt change Mr the beard, massive arguments about the rights and wrongs of the process.

This has been suggested by others also... Am tempted. I had huge worries about the whole process but it worked out ok in the end. Done outside our static caravan with no special tools really. Just a lot of patience and stressing about it. Wish I had taken pictures, but the event overcame that.

I'm impressed at how well you're getting on with the ZT, seems like a match made in... well if not heaven then at least a really good pub.

This is the sort of place that would tell me: 'It looks like a Calibra from the front and Calibras are just better'.

It's supposed to be exactly the kind of place that wouldn't say that. It's a shame if it's become the kind of place that would.

Defo haven't been to Vauxhall today to see how much on their scrappage scheme I'd get for the 406. Not me. No way.

Had to SORN The Volvo today, as its tax runs out at the end of the month and I won't be able to get a new MOT for it until the the week after next at the earliest, due to not having enough time to finish doing the [minor] work it needs to secure a first time pass :(

It does sort of look like a calibra, but one that got the back half from a toyota Sera or something.

While out on my bike today I saw a Kia that had burnt out and a Mercedes in a dyke.

Cycling is safer.
