That looks lovely!!! Moah pics please

Does it come with much history?

1972 L registered Triumph Toledo 1300

41k miles backed up with MOT's going back years, some servicing receipts going back well before my existence too.

Bought from an old boy who I got a good feeling off, he's in his local vintage club and the car won 2nd prize at a recent event (even got the rosette with the sale!).

He's obviously looked after it and thinks very highly of it. It's quite recently had a bit of a respray, it's not perfect but it's tidy enough.

Rust wise it's not bad, bottom of drivers door is a bit scabby, little bit of rust around headlights.

Underneath has been regularly waxoiled.

Couple of electrical gremlins to sort with the rear lights too.

Overall it just needs a minor spruce up, interior cleaning up and then I can enjoy sub £1k 70's motoring for a bit.

Well, this happened this morning on the way to work:

:-(

It did a "Beko1987 Citroen ZX" on me. Thankfully it happened at low speed as I was going around the roundabout. I went all the way around to avoid a line of traffic that was taking the same road I was heading which was first exit, as I went around the rouandabout I hear a massive CLUNK and the car dropping slightly, I then came to a halt. But as I was still in the middle of the roundabout I accelerated towards the nearest exit and pulled up onto a pavement to avoid being in the way.

Upon inspection the the balljoint had given away which now explains why the car felt so wallowy in the last few weeks. Whenever I turned the steering wheel there was never any positive feel in straightening the wheel and it would randomly wander and it got worse.

The Merc has been recovered to my mates garage, I have asked him to change the balljoints and arms on both sides, the P/S fluid will also get changed.

This also means I'll be on the search for a new wing, it's not noticeably damaged but it has taken out a chunk out where there was rust bubbles. I'll need to try and contact the chap who sold me the diesel wing as I stand a better chance of matching paintwork up. this will also be on top of a new bonnet and hinges as they were wrecked by carelessness.

Sigh...

Ah - that'll be it then.

Unlucky Mo - but better than loaded/at speed mate.

^ Glad your ok MO!!!

Unless I see evidence of the balljopints being done in the records I always do them on W124s. Its usually a low speed/ manouvering failure but still! Youve not had the best of luck with the old merc of late.

Crikey. Glad you are ok and that this didn't happen at speed.

The Toledo looks to be French Blue.

The exact same thing happened to a work mates A4 in the works car park last year. Thank god it was only at low speed, I think it's the potholes that cause it.

Ouch, glad that wasn't any worse Lord S.

Bloggage of a Renault 16 nature. http://wp.me/p1jtbd-z1

I'm a bit annoyed with myself. I was having such a jolly time that I pretty much failed to get nice photos of most of the cars I drove.

FAME AT LAST!

If you ever want it back for photography or video review purposes, or just to drive around in for a bit, then let me know - I'd be glad of the excuse to drive up there again.

JohnK - Toledo - looks fabulous, especially for that money.  Big win.

Up to my arms in a dirty, smokey, dieseasal tonight;

Horse pooh and oil flavour:

Not this one, but one the same, grey smoke aplenty when starting or revved.

The air filter is a matt of straw and dust, the fuel filter is full of rusty red sediment as is the guts of the lift pump. I'm hoping that a drain of the fuel tank and replacing the above will improve the situation.

Went for a lovely drive this evening - just a few miles to collect a bootful of tip-fodder from Skoda_Norman - who is sadly moving away from these parts. Sure you want to go?

Struggling to get comfy in the 95. Bottom of clutch feels miles away. If I put the seat close enough then hurts right leg.

Going to have to have a play with all the levers

Lord Sterling, this happened to my mate with the diesel coupe, on a roundabout at 20-ish. Amazingly, his wing survived with only a tiny crease. Plod who arrived said be grateful traffic plod wasn't anywhere near!  Somewhere there's a pic of a German who had this happen at hundreds of kilos an hour - he survived, just.

I always wonder whenever I see an approaching 124 if it's being run on a budget, especially when in a little car! England's roads aren't what they used to be, etc...  Glad it wasn't any worse.

Rescued a team mate who broke herself playing sports by driving her back home, any other cars have what amounts to a button for a clutch like the Mazda 2 (07-64) does?!

Posted

I've seen a few  older Merc's over the year with a prolapsed ball joint. More than any other car I can remember seeing it happening on.

I had a wishbone snap on my Passat. That was fun.

The 190's suffer the same problem. It's recommended as the first thing to change when you buy one if there's no evidence of it being done.

Germans in poor (dangerous ) design shocker !!

How about designing a balljoint that is pushed together by the weight of the car so its fail-safe
