The parking brake on Ms._Peel's stepdad's Passat seized on, requiring a new caliper at £££. Pot luck.

all modern carz are shite - etc!

More likely that the handbrake just failed - they do that. A lot! Never leave one in neutral...

Aye, Mrs_Pillock has a Touran (same platform) with a manual handbrake. Came out of work to find it had attempted a bit of car-on-car action with a friends Volvo, handbrake was on but had just relaxed grip. Sadly it was at a school, at lunchtime, so witnessed by hundreds of kids that found it hilarious :-)

I also once pulled into a pub carpark to find a Leon slowly reversing towards me..... With nobody in. Lept out, held the car and sent someone into the pub to find the owner. He'd caned it down the road, brakes got hot, handbrake on, brakes cooled and let go.

Driving shite has cured me of using handbrakes forever (apart from hill starts), even on moderns. Shitefucius he say, never park with handbrake on because it may be months before you get the engine to start again, by which time brakes will have seized on.

Also, electric handbrakes are the work of Beelzebub.

I'll be in Crewe tomorrow morning on a shite collection mission, leaving London at the crack. It's a small, saucy French hatchback this time, with an automatique gearbox for added unreliability. Should be fun!

I always leave the car in gear and the handbrake on. No idea why tbh, just habit

Apart from the xm, never used the handbrake in that, just Park. Had to chase it once where I'd not engaged Park properly...

More often than not I will apply the handbrake and put it into gear. This stems from a time when I owned a Sierra Sapphire, as I "live" on a road with a slight incline to it, many years ago I remember one day seeing my Sierra just suddenly roll down the street, thankfully there was nothing parked in front of it and I just managed to open the door and apply the handbrake before I gathered further speed and damaged anything.

If I have a manual car, I'll apply the handbrake and put it into gear on any hills/inclines or slightly uneven surfaces.

I very much hope that this is cavasaver's 106 and you'll be reassembling the engine before driving it home.

Damn, shame I might be a bit busy tomorrow otherwise we could have had a Peugeot 106 FACEOFF seeing as I still have the bloody thing with me.

I was thinking the same but how would it get to Crewe?

I don't know but I'm sure it's going to make a good story.

No Phil, it was supposed to be a phase 1 Clio but collection is now off after the seller messaged me late last night saying it's got signs of HGF. They did some checks yesterday knowing I'll be doing a big journey today and there's oil in the header tank. No overheating apparently so must be early stages. Shame as i was looking forward to a road trip, but obviously glad they've been honest about it. A+ SELLER WUD RECKOMEND.

I stumped up 89 quid to add it onto my PJ classic policy yesterday, and not sure I can get it refunded. Better that than get lumbered with a knackered Frenchie though.

Funny you should say that Rob - I always sort insurance after I've bought the car, which I find to be a complete and utter chew on because you can never get through to anybody quickly when you really need to.

Yesterday I decided to sort insurance for the 525i on the way to collect. Fortunately I got some money back from Footman James, so wouldn't have been a heartache if I had walked away from the car.

Hope you manage to get some of it back...

I had a similar gamble with the Perodua. £75 to add it to my policy, which also involved switching the XM to classic cover. Wary of trying to add it once I had bought the car, I did it before I left. I hadn't even paid a deposit at this point!

I've started phoning the insurance co from my mobile and insuring new cars after I've handed over the cash, for this very reason!

I took out day insurance on the V70 before we even viewed it, Spiny Norman did the same when he was coming for the C5. For the sake of £27 it's really not worth being in a grey area.

I remember picking my Escort up when I bought it - I paid for day insurance after buying the car.

I insured TAV 82X by mistake which was a MK5 Cortina that was last on the road in 1993 it seems. I had to reinsure the correct reg for another £30, i didn't expect a refund but dayinsure must have twigged and automatically refunded a few days later despite their policies stating it was non-refundable. I was happy with that!

Brought the 318iS up to my old mans this morning so I can get it in the garage to look at this electrical fault (again) in more detail as it's seriously pissing me off now. In the theme of the 'where do you store your shite' thread I now need to make a decision on how to get home - answers on a postcard please, sure my dad's neighbours are a bit annoyed this morning -

I normally do the day insurance thing, but thought this would be a dead cert so lobbed it straight on to my policy. If I get it back great, if not, whatevar.

Undeterred, I'm hopefully off to view another Clio today, a Baccara this time so a bit of posh shite. I'm in the mindset now. Target locked, must have Clio!

That's the first time I've seen a trailer carrying a trailer. Would it not have been easier to trailer the second trailer and eliminate the need for the first trailer? TRAILER.

The trailer had a trailer ring hitch off an army trailer not a civvy trailer, buyer only had a trailer hitch for the latter trailer so he borrowed a trailer to move his new trailer. Trailer.
