I do have a friend who gets shipments of overnight parts from Japan, happy to give him a shout if you know some part numbers.

I once got an EMS package from Osaka in three days.

I reckon it must have been the last thing on a plane - that was just leaving.

I've had Royal Mail take longer to get a parcel to me in Peterborough, from Manchester.

Evans Halshaw in Northwich has closed apparently with just a days notice.

Surprised EH are still around, no branches locally now.

They lost the Nissan franchise in the last year or so as well. I see no signs of them taking on any of the BYDs/Jaecoo/Omoda/whoever's bringing an EV over next week either.

They still have a presence round here because of a head office not far from J27 of the M1 and their training academy being at their big Mansfield Citroen site (which used to also have Nissan - fun fact, their training academy showroom used to house Citroen, and back in the day I'm sure it was the old Priory Rover showroom)

Their latest ads have been along the line of “doesn’t matter if the car is at the other end of the country , we’ll get it to your local branch”. Logical step is to go online only.

Having not seen a branch for a while I was in Motherwell and passed an EH Ford franchise.

Forgot to say that they use a CRV picnic table at Windley's for the signing-on sheets.

I caught a Fox last night and released it into my house, what a mess that was, it’s gone now through a broken window. Definitely won’t  be doing that again

I only really have one question, why?

Not quite as wild, but I was trying to find an AC condenser for the Mondeo a while ago. UK sellers wouldn't list the part number, had not great pics, and a 5-7 day delivery timespan. I found one in Spain where the listing included the FINIS code, lots of pictures and a drawing and came after two days - could barely believe it when as you say it can take god knows how long to get a short distance within the UK!

I had always assumed that my E46 was ULEZ compliant, being petrol and 2003, plus the gov.uk checker showed it as so.

However it doesn't cover Scotland and when I checked using the Scottish Government checker, it's definitely not compliant.

As my son has moved up to the next age group in his basketball team earlier than expected, he's now playing in a league which means , as much as I hate doing this, I'll regularly have to drive in cities when he has an away game. I had planned to use the E46 for that but now that I know it's not ULEZ compliant with the more stringent Scottish regulations, I need to make a decision. Obviously I've burst my arse and spent a small fortune on the BMW so that's not going anywhere.

The 2 Audis are too damn competent all rounders and need very little doing and the BMW is also a great fun car.

The 75 though, much as I love that car and it goes so well, needs some bodywork tidying and has just the start of a knock from the OSF suspension, so I'm thinking I'm gonna cut my losses, sell it as it is and replace it with a ULEZ compliant car, perhaps a petrol Saab 93 (I know for sure that will be compliant, having had two!)

What does your V5 say for NOX on it? Is there anything in that field?

If not then a CoC from BMW may say it's exempt and a letter to DVLA to fix it.

Edit: a quick check on eBay adverts, some 330Ci 2003/53 are, some aren't. I suspect it might be a registration issue when the dealer registered it that can be fixed with a CoC. Might even be just data in the wrong field - that was the case of my mates Mini R53.

Here's the Euro 4, which is the minimum standard for Scotland:

And here's my V5

As you can see it's well within Euro 4.

I wonder if BMW would help?

Posted

Surely BMW don’t need to be involved there? Is there a similar thing like for ULEZ where you can send a copy of the logbook with the compliant figures and they update the DB to say your car is compliant?

I checked my dads recently departed X5 and that’s complaint. Same engine and gearbox as your 330i, and it was built in May 2003. My old 325ti is compliant too, but that’s a manual so not an apples to apples comparison.

BMW will issue a CoC, but I think they cost a bit.

Looks like it should be compliant and okay according to the V5. Maybe an email to the Scottish ULEZ scheme to ask what the craic is when it's below the limits on the V5?

https://lowemissionzones.scot/contact

It's not showing as compliant on the English CAZ checker either. There is a contact form on there which you could query too. I suspect a data processing cock up.

English CAZ contact here: https://contact.drive-clean-air-zone.service.gov.uk/

This is the Scottish legislation and it's limits according to the links from the above:

https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ssi/2021/177/schedule/2

Which actually appear above Euro 4 for CO limits. (Rest are the same)

So apparently it's a common enough thing to have a specific FAQ:

Ive sent them an email as requested. I was sure I checked ULEZ before I bought it and it was fine, the plate change will explain why.

OK, good reasons for why not to again, but why in the first place?

Sometimes things just don’t play out as you expect, you rehearse things in your mind over and over etc

Just ordered some parts for a job at work, the supplier emailed me asking if I would collect or want it put on a Karrier. Don’t think it’s a spelling mistake so assume he means one of these

Great idea :)

I have a middle man who can buy from any of the big auction sites and I've not ruled them out if I really can't get anything here. I got my mega curry mats from them and keep looking out for some antimaccassars.

In the gap between posts I found a specialist in Bristol that a friend knows who 'has a few' and can get them refurbed locally.
Apparently it's the carbon brushes that fail; Amayama spordically has stock and I can get them from the Australian specialist if I need to.

He was over recently and we stripped that white car in Windley's bare :)

I know little about Subaru, one of the guys in our yard has a couple and a scrap 2nd generation Legacy if any parts might help. 👍

The clutch pedal on my berlingo effectively did this on the way to work this morning

FB_IMG_1729683580830.jpg.2bd3fca7dc68090517a907217e8f0e17.jpg

The fork attached to the pedal had become unscrewed from the rod in the little master cylinder, managed to limp home in third when I could see what had happened, managed to screw it back on and lock it tight with some mole grips,as there is no locknut or enough thread for one.inrerestingly changes gear nicer now, must have been getting loose for ages!

Well that was a surprise, got an opportunity to see the doctor early due to a cancellation and since I'm having a moderately good day, I was up to walking over (Princess shat its clutch slave cylinder today and is now having a rest) so I did.  After a nice discussion with the doctor she agreed it seems very likely I've got either ME or fibromyalgia, though with the lack of pain it's more likely the former.  Referred to Neurology for some further investigation.  If it is ME that's a real bugger as there's nothing you can do about it, nobody really understands it, and it's unlikely to ever go away.

Glad you got to see the doc quickly and hope Neurology see you soon. My wife has fibromyalgia and chronic ITP but has the pain with it. ME not good but neither of the others are curable either. She was given a 60 week waiting period to be seen by neurologist for suspected Parkinson’s, on top of the other two. We’re looking at cost for private consultation now. I wish you the best of luck.

My new purchase, 2001 Audi TT, is at the garage having some new brake pipes and an arb done to get out through the MOT. A few advisories but I'm pleased with that as it was stood still for 2 years.

I should be collecting it tomorrow but I won't tax it untill November as my total car tax bill is getting a bit high and this is the same as the jaguar at £415. I can't really keep this and my S type, and 3 other cars, so might be putting it up for sale at some point, unless further man maths is completed.

I can't wait to take the TT out for a run. I drove it about 15 miles to the prearranged MOT and it felt more fun than the reviews I had read. Not a sports car but still interesting and it squealed nicely around one particular roundabout I tried. Nice interior too.

I changed the wiper blades for Bosch ones, and will get a new part worn for the rear. I plan to rub it down and rustproof as I think it's just surface corrosion underneath. Hopefully the brake discs with de-rust themselves with use.

I recently flattened the battery in the SVX by leaving a door ajar (cue Bill Hicks joke).
The smart charger wouldn't bring it back; I revived it by boosting from the Leon for 20 minutes. That did enough to get an initial charge into the plates, and for a spare CTEK I had to take the matter seriously.
Ally Koyorad still looks smart, as it should for the bloody wedge it stung me for (and it was bloody second hand!)

I never really went into the minor nightmare than erupted over the battery - it's a a recent Yuasa that has the posts on the correct side of the battery, as opposed to the old dogshit Lion that was about the right size and CCA but had the posts on the other side, meaning that the cables were stretched to hell and straining on the clamp.
It didn't help that *so many* parts books have the wrong battery listed for an SVX (see also: rear brake discs); to make doubly sure, I checked with a Japanese Yuasa catalogue, cross referenced the number it gave, and ordered the correct unit from Tayna. It wasn't even that expensive. People online were still telling me that it was wrong, and wouldn't accept that their database was at fault.

My Impreza also needs another wash - after two months of Fenland dust coated it (again).
JDM bonnet prop (pictured) on the SVX also doubles as a start stick. Both parts are on order, though I'm up to my 6th wrong starter: recon places keep sending me starters for either 1.8 Imprezas or 2.2 Legacys.
It did a racism the other night: I ordered a Chinese meal with @TheXUDfiles and it refused to start ahead of collection. The start stick persuaded it, however.

It got through another test, too, though there's a growing list of parts I need, some of which are having to come from Australia. A couple of US SVX NATION members are also, shall we say, taking the piss with certain NOS parts and their supply. UK stock is all over the place, particularly where gaskets are concerned. I did a bulk buy for future use.

Bonus pic from when I went to the tip. I don't even live in Northamptonshire, lol. It's since had a slightly less fucked steering wheel fitted.
I lost a load of images recently when my phone finally died. I'll have to take it to my usual place when I'm back up north to retrieve the numbers, recordings and photos I took.

Are you on the UK Legacy  Facebook group @alcyonecorporation? There's a member in Japan sourcing new or used parts to ship over.

Progress breaking down the dead RR is progressing very slowly, and - in the case of the arch liner fixings - at the expense of my knuckles 🙃

However, I did find what was a fairly nice ratchet spanner hiding in the scuttle trim. Shame it's been there long enough for the ratchet end to fill with water and rust solid!
