Busy day. Busa has it's MOT on Tuesday - bled the brakes and attempted to cure the leaking sump plug - it has always dripped - I purchased a genuine suzuki crush washer. Let's see if it cure the drip.

The mondeo is having the trailing arm bushes done next week. The rear subframe could best be described as grim - I was shocked how rusty it was - and the rear arms - I didn't want to drop the car off for the mechanic to refuse to touch it.

So there was wire brush / drill / kurust action. Sadly the nuts for the adjusters have left the chat due to corrosion. The car lived in Scotland for a few years -  I have seen a few mondeos that were grim underneath.

Renewed The Volvo's insurance yesterday: £250 fully comprehensive with Footman James, the premium having remained more or less the same since it was first put on a cla$$ic car insurance policy in 2009.

I really must get the bloody thing running properly and re-MOT'd...

Well this evening didn't really go to plan...... I will just take the Honda for a test drive after replacing the front brake pads........

20240428_201057.jpg.31b24f12d2a651400a6e4388f3718199.jpg

About 2 miles from home the Accord suffered some kind of electrical failure (the brakes were fine!).  Initially I was going to fit a spare battery but each time I tried to connect it sparked! And yes the terminals were the right way around, I think the alternator has developed an internal short.  I gave up on any idea of re electrifying the car and ended up getting my better half to tow me back home using my Forester.

Being towed was rather terrifying as my tow rope is rather shorter than I realised (possibly shorter than a cars length)  and unassisted Honda Brakes are heavy and useless .....  It felt like I was just about to rear end my spare/winter/tip run car with my main car for the entire journey!  😬

Hats off to Mrs Marina Door Handles for remaining cool calm and collected and putting up with my panicky riding of the brakes!

The timing of this is actually not too bad as I am starting a new job tomorrow and breaking down on the way there would have been really unfortunate, its always best to break down in your own time!

Being pedantic (unlike me I know) I think that's an Interceptor rather than an FF - the FF had a longer bonnet.

Bought this in 2020 salvage, 62 plate with 50k as our ‘family car / missus runabout’

All in after repair costs it owes about £5k.

The missus had a mishap on Thursday evening, it’s just been written off again. Been offered £5k for it. It’s now on around 110k. Fairly happy with that, just waiting a buy back figure then I can get it back on the road (again). Should have plenty left over to buy something else too, as I’ve found all the body panels I need in the same colour for around £700 (that’s including the AMG spec bumper)

i know these are just an appliance but this has been a decent car for us, so glad it’s going to live to see another day!

Spot on, it's an Interceptor III SP, has the 440 Six Pack Chrysler engine. Longer louvres on the bonnet and blue badges on the centre caps, replaced the FF as the company flagship. The FF is longer, different shape front wings with two thinner double air vents and the bonnet is different. Completely different chassis too.

The 2CV was carted off to a classic motor pervert enabler over in Spalding last month to have its bodywork fixed after I decided I was going to need help actually sorting it out. Well last week I had a message that it was ready and today myself and the FIL sped off in the ‘Gooner armed with the towing dolly to collect!

All went absolutely swimmingly and despite a question mark over one of the dollies cracked tyres nothing fell off or exploded and the 2CV is now back at home complete with new floors.

Hopefully this month I’ll get chance to reassemble the interior, fix a couple of electrical gremlins and actually get it MOTd and on the road after 24 years of sitting in a garage!

The front wheels were chocked.

Now, if I know anything about the demographic on here, I won't be the only one who enjoys a beverage from a Ravenhead Siesta? Daughter broke one, but found some more.

A summary of today:

  • I oversaw the launch of a new software system at work, which I’ve been responsible for overseeing from concept and has taken forever to get to implementation. I’ve had huge anxiety in the run up to this day, and feared failure. It actually went fairly smoothly despite my apprehensions, and I only messaged a bug report to @rob88h by accident once. I’m calling that a result.
  • I came home to find that my mrs has reversed the disco into the Proton, smashing the indicator on the proton and damaging the bodywork of both vehicles. Not ideal, but nobody hurt so not worth worrying about.
  • My Labrador, who at 12 should be old enough to know better, for some reason rammed his head in the hole of his feeding table. In panic he then ran amok with the table still attached, damaging the house and breaking his feeding table in the process. It was a bastard to pull him back out of it and wasn’t enjoyable for him.
  • My father in law and his wife put our kids to bed, cooked us a fantastic dinner and are now filling me with beer and gin.

It’s been a bit all over the place today.

They are durable, been using a set for 20 years and they've been in the family since new, this eBay lot had one missing so not bad to get 5 as new for £8 + postage.

Got temporary registration plates (stickers) for the Vivaro which are on similar to the UK Sorn so I could drive it today and get the rust off the brakes and take it to MOT tomorrow morning.

I don't know why we still have temporary registration plates when we no longer have to hand in the registration plates at Sorn but we do, Norway is strange.IMG_20240429_124326_844.jpg.741b25740d1ce1d6d4c03d9028b55954.jpg

Ah crikey those bring back memories! Even as an under 10, it bothered me a lot that my parents didn't really clean them properly and there was residue in all the dimples. Ever since, I've wanted to go back in time with a dish brush and some washing up liquid and give them a good scrub, using a brisk rotary motion.

I remember those! Weren't they free* if you saved up 50,000 Texaco fuel vouchers or something?

Edit:

Apparently you could buy tall versions of the same.

My parents had several of the smaller ones like yours- I'll have to see if any have survived the last 40  years.

Edit again:

Turns out it was Esso Tiger Tokens. Seems like yesterday...

@egg Every day's a school day! Never knew there were so many versions of them.

I've checked and apparently none of my parents glasses have survived. I'm sure I remember at least one within the last decade, so they provided sterling service over the years.
