Avoid "repossessedcarsukltdcheshire" should you come across them at any point

Crumbs, not exactly a confidence-filling name that is it ?

left the car in a field with the keys in!

Seems legit. Have you run an HPI check on that?

Got annoyed of fuckwits while trying to sell the Astra. Getting offered £100 or less and I just know that if I said yes they'd try haggle down more as no doubt never read the ad.  So decided to just scrap it for £100. No hassle and free uplift. Sorted.

I was happy to take £100 from friends and fellow Shiters, but chancers and fuckwits can get in the sea.

She will be missed that car, did a good service!

All good, it's actually surprisingly good for what I paid with complete service history and drives like  dream, I'm still breaking it up though IMG_1654.thumb.PNG.0f1480a13b3d8e1b471b509352a0202b.PNG

True to his word, the vendor of the Sierra gave me the spare key(s) today and also the bonus of a Haynes manual. He has a low mileage Puma 1.7 next to his forecourt now, a mate's car he says. In an ordinary world I'd snatch it up, but it's too much money for a notorious mingebag, sadly.

In boring news it was time to lob some fuel into the Merc today, after it had a £5 wash and dry yesterday...

It's abso-fucking-lutely amazing to drive, found the multi-changer last night so whanged in an old  'Clubland' CD in this morning, cranked the volume up to the max and enjoyed some 'Blow My Whistle Baby' etc.

Also managed to smoke a Transit off at the lights, which obvs isn't much to shout about, but by God it does these things in style.

Mondeo behaved, mostly. Although I completely forgot about changing the bulb so embarrassingly have a failure for that on the sheet first. IMG_20201009_175252.thumb.jpg.ea69f7677002271365e7098f5803d2bb.jpg

In further good news, a new bumper was waiting for me at home...

Not sure what it'll look like rattlecanned. Can't be worse than the gaffer tape?

Hmm, actually, the primer it's delivered in is dark grey. Wonder if it'll be ok to just chuck it on without putting a topcoat on... or does fibreglass need a topcoat?

I thought it would be a good idea to fit a new dashtop this week to my Dads cheap Bini as it was all that was spoiling an otherwise perfect car and while I had the dash apart I thought I might as well repair the Rev counter.

Its  came out lovely In the end but I don’t wish to ever do another..

Been using the poorly 405 as the Focus is at the garage.  Called by the motor factors earlier and got a load of power steering fluid.  Checked the bottle I had was full too so that'll be enough to change it tomorrow.  Called by work to try and borrow the ramps and ended up taking a Suzuki off them and putting a Renault on, that will be a no then.  Got home to find the fluid had leaked but only a little and all on the rubber mat.  Stupidity saw me wash it in the bath so just wait for the grump tomorrow when I slip over in the shower.

Girls have scouts tonight so I thought I'd call by and see a mate.  Stopped at the garage to get biscuits and the car won't start when I got back.  Jogged into town and borrowed the just fixed Suzuki from work, dropped off girls went back for jump leads, back up to the garage and started 405, dropped that at work and walked back up.  Fetched Suzuki, just dropped off leads and now it's time to pick the girl's up.  Going to sleep well tonight 😂

Comments from the girls on the Suzuki;

"It's so nippy and smooth"  After being thrashed down the road and achieving 30mph

"It's so plasticy, it's like the keyring I got from wish.com"

Went to MOTAT (the Museum of Transport and Technology, in Auckland, New Zealand) today and found some top chod worth sharing here:

I will lead with a wonderfully orange/brown Morris Marina Estate:

I am going to sunny Ivybridge to have a look at a car. It is a 'nice' car... possibly. It is an expensive car though and more than I can afford, haggling skills need a brush up :)

Also, some twat has biffed the passenger door mirror on the SuLK and while the cover is still fine, the glass is doing a fine impression of mosaic. New mirror glass is only a tenner and looks to be a doddle to change, just brute force and ignorance, at least one of those I have in abundance.

I am however, niggled!

Went up to the motorfactors this morning to pick up a few bits and pieces. This is one of the van hire fleet - a glut of smileyface transits are still used amongst the modern ones, which I think is suitably autoshite.

How on earth is a 22 year old self drive Transit still looking smart?  In between changing the PAS fluid on the 405 I've been helping the boss hammer a 1 year old Boxer back into something approximating the right shape so we could refit the plastic trim.

The 405 seemed happy for a fluid change so I handed back the Suzuki with a new chip on the screen from the journey into town and drove the 405 home where is spat another auxiliary belt off just before arriving.

What did you order? Just copper pipe?

Turned out to be crap of course, ordered 5mm, received 2.5mm today (rolls eyes). What do I expect etc...

I can really see myself draining the sump with that!

refund applied for...

edit: 50% refund agreed, I can probably use the pipe on some diecast shite repair or somethin'

My block & tackle overhead ladder storage solution is complete.

IMG_20201008_212859574.thumb.jpg.97e8b7d55bfe03ee3c4bceeba8696044.jpg

I'm pretty pleased with it. It's a silver line 180kg rated b&t with carabiniers holding the ladder and screwed into the roof trusses.

It's now tied off to the wall above the tumble dryer but keeps the bug and bulky, but very useful 10m ladder out of the way neatly

Raises and lowers it all very easily when required and hasn't yet collapsed on me and broken my neck

In recent years this particular one seems to have been semi-permanently parked up as an advert, presumably being used for backup only - but the ones which are out and about every day are in exactly the same nick. The owner is something of a perfectionist.

Ah, the joys of holding stuff in place on vertical surfaces while glue dries.

This has just gone to its new owner. Bloke turned up quick look and drive round the block, chipped £150 off the price for a couple of tyres. Sold, transferred money. Simples!
It’s how selling a car should be, the old fashioned way. Had a few fucking idiot messages, but I’d taken my phone number off the adverts after half a dozen personal injury vulture calls.

Just sold my 1979 Raleigh Chopper to a collector. Wasn't prepared for just how obscene the prices had become for these, got a lot more than I expected.

May need to destroy all phones/laptops in the house to prevent me heading straight to the classifieds and buying more car shite.

Gave the Sierra a quick polish in time for winter. Pity it's half in and half out of the car port. Shrunk the shed so will have to extend the car port roof.

This is a nice little artefact, my dad found this invoice for him buying his first car in 1970 - Hillman Super Minx. The Canterbury registered Mini (990 FN) traded in was his mum's apparently.  £3.8k is £250 in today's money.

The Minx was East Sussex registered, and it was driven down to St Tropez in 1972 after my dad had met my mum.

Coming back from a mates, I do have one, I noticed a red machine in my rear view mirror. It was a Metro shaped machine. As it passed me on the dual carriage way it gave a toot and the couple, in their thirties, waved enthusiastically. Presuming they were waving at me I waved, imperiously, and tooted back. It was a Rover 100 Ascot, I believe, lowered on an R plate. Bloody moderns.

Bluebird was very steamed up earlier today, so I went to nosey around. Boot very damp, not good. On investigation, the boot carpet had the beginnings of mould and the spare wheel well was swimming. Really not sure how, considering that all the bungs are in position.

All drained away, wiped down, lots of newspaper, and I've got the carpet soaking in disinfectant now... Never rains but it pours eh?

On the other hand, in happier news, started to properly sort out garage lighting.

This is with one strip of LED rope light to cover the garage, another for the workbench. Will probably add at least one more for the garage in general, and possibly a low level one for jobs at ground level. Got a 12v fan somewhere, too. All running off an old battery. IMG_20201010_183804.thumb.jpg.1f53e40b2680266ab9fc307226d74497.jpg

Might it be leaking through the rear lights or the boot seal perhaps? The LandCruiser had the same issue until we relaced the boot seal, but I've seen it more on failed light gaskets.

Good shout. I'll have a look for anything obvious, or otherwise, get an assistant and a bucket of water...

Actually, when it's dried, talcum powder might work to show up the origin...

Stupid things I say on a Saturday night :

"Maybe I'll go and have a poke around and see if I can find the issue"
