I find a good 80-90% of brand new eBay parts are fakes tbh. They're really good at faking them nowadays. Packaging and all. Especially certain things like light bulbs and such like.

 

However eBay can be useful for NOS parts and main dealer parts directly from main dealers. Easy to find the latter as they put their dealership phone number and address registered as their eBay account. A quick Google is often enough due diligence to see if it's a real dealer.

While I was asleep Old Man randomly ordered two recon calipers, pads etc for the rear brakes from Rock Auto and now I owe him some money I'm not sure I have.

I've just fitted a Borg and Beck clutch from ebay to the Stock car.

They were ordered from classicandmoderncarparts, who have been an Ebay member since 2003 and have a score of 100% on about 48,000 feedbacks. They have businees details as BNC Autoparts Ltd. with an address in Midlothian.

They certainly don't sound like cowboys, but who knows where they buy their parts from?

I put an ebay Sachs clutch in my Porsche and haven't been happy with it since it went in. I might have to put another one in there as it really stinks if you pull away a bit rapidly.. It looked like a proper one and there was only Sachs made a clutch for the S so you would think it was legit.

Most of us remember "Borg&Beck" from the time when they were the British branch of Borg-Warner and made quality parts.

 

Unfortunately, this hasn't been the case for over a decade now - the brand name is now owned by FirstLine, and Borg&Beck boxes seem to contain sub-standard, Chinese-made shite. This level of quality* unfortunately seems to be the rule for OEM* part suppliers nowadays.

and have enough vehicle projects to keep me busy for a year or two. A maestro waiting on wheel arches, a landcruiser needing mot, 3 series land rovers gathering dust. The omega, tractor, digger, dumper...

 

Yet in the last month I've bought two motorbikes

 

Cafe racer project. Just what I need.

 

More 80's jap bike. Currently in bits in the garage for a quick* recommission and profit*.

 

I need to get the garage cleared because that old 109 lurking behind the allegro is going to be the subject of an 'oily hands' day that the car club Tam and I are in are having. Its old Perkins is getting a strip down and new rings.

 

Then the p38 arrived and needs to be sorted or scrapped.

 

I often don't get home from work until 8pm. It's all a bit nuts. I really need to offload something(s)

What a lovely day. Have had a runabout in the Invacar and outings by 2CV and Lexus. Glorious.

Been out today and helped a neighbor check on his lock up. He’s had it nearly 30 years but not been inside for the last 4 or 5 years!

He’s thinking about clearing it out and getting rid of the lock up but wanted to see what, if anything was still inside. He’d been putting it off as someone had told him it’d been broken into and the locks changed. Got there and it was just as he’d left it fortunately.

 

Aside from the years old tools and bits & bobs, we found a really old belt driven air compressor, pre 80 Yamaha RD250 (couldn’t find the number plate but keys still in the ignition!), and an old stripped down pre 63 registration Triumph motorbike of some sort. It’s frame is still sat there and the engine was on the floor at the back, the engine has been stripped and rebuilt but never been used!

 

Always interesting to see what’s been sat in garages for years.

He knew the Triumph was in there but there’s so much clutter in there you couldnt see the Yamaha. It was only when we started sorting through stuff it became visible. He didn’t even know he had it!

It’s complete and in reasonable state too for something that’s sat for ages. There’s still ok smelling petrol in the tank.

God knows why he didn’t go check for so long though.

 

The Triumph engine I lifted out for him and took it back to his house. It’s complete too, even still got its tiny carb still. It’s clearly been rebuilt and it’s spotless inside.

I don’t know sod all about bikes tbh. I meant ‘tiny’ as in tiny in comparison to my cars carbs! All bikes are tiny!

I think the Mercury’s carb is about the same size as this Triumph’s entire engine!

I think the carbs on my Triumph Bonnie are about 1 1/2" internal bore if that helps?
