Made it back from Somerset OK, although the traffic was a complete twat as far as Swindon, and then again coming out of Milton Keynes when a 66-plate A-Class Merc broke down on the single carriageway bit of the A421 leading up to the M1 junction.  Quality German engineering at work there.

Speaking of which, the Audi made it there and back fine, and although the fuel consumption is hard to determine exactly as the fuel gauge isn't the most precise, it seems to have done 510 miles on around £50 of derv, which would work out to about 55mpg - not bad for a 23-year-old automatic.  It did its not-responding-to-the-throttle thing a bit when I first set off, and then again quite badly through Milton Keynes after I stopped for a piss, but wasn't too bad the rest of the way.

I also had my first drive of a hybrid today, after my dad picked up his new (to him) Auris from the Toyota dealer in Bristol.  It's actually bloody clever, very seamless and smooth unless you floor it, when the petrol engine gets a bit raucous, but that's par for the course with CVT I suppose.  It also rides really well for a modern car and has a decent turning circle.  Visibility isn't all that great, but it has a reversing camera which helps.  I can't see myself rushing out to buy one, but I did enjoy driving it more than I thought I would.

I nearly forgot to mention, I saw a L plate Senator on the M18 today. Still a good looking motor.

As part of my shopping trip to Moss motors, I bought one of their "High Quality" condensers. Now there should never be a range of High Quality parts but then I guess too many people want the cheapest possible. So manfactures cut corners to be the cheapest.

Anyway, comparing it against a Intermotor part they seem a much better design. The capacitor itself is potted, rather than a rubber bung on the end. While the electrode connection is soldered on vs spring fit behind the rubber bung. Both are what condensers used to be like before they got cheapened to the cheapest they can make them.

It's designed to fit in a Lucas 25D distributor, but I can't see why it wouldn't work with others. My intention, as I'm now using a 45D (until I fit a Electronic Ignition) and this won't fit inside, is to crimp on a spade connector and connect it onto the coil itself. Then the other end onto a suitable earth point.

I wonder if this is the answer to Classic Car owners complaint of crap quality ignition parts?

Reminds me of Sainsburys and their 'taste the difference' posh satsumas. They only exist because their ordinary satsumas are so fucking insultingly awful, that suddenly a satsuma with some actual friggin juice in it, and which doesn't taste like dog biscuits, can now be sold as a 'premium product' and priced accordingly! Bastards

Er, any recommendations? We've not had a smoke alarm in the house for some years. Like since we moved in.. (we did have a CO alarm, but I'm not even sure where that is)

You definitely have a co detector in the room with your wood burner. Along with one on the landing. Screwfix sell twin packs.

its twitchy as fuck out there, was sliding around at 35mph at some points! Then I underestimated how filthy my screen was and nearly rear ended some poor sod on the M40 who was doing 45mph in L2 as I hit the washers, a good amount of luck kept L3 clear as I took evasive action...

The TU3 engine was liberated from the Pluriel last night, prepping it today to go into the 207.

If anyone needs C3 or Pluriel bits please let me know, before the carcass is bridged.

Drive by wire accelerator on these, maybe the potentiometer is iffy. Unfortunately it looks totally different to the later TDI potentiometer/accelerator pedal combinations.

Here is the Intermotor Vs the Moss Motors HQ condenser while pulling on the flylead. I reckon the condenser and it's shitty spring contacts destroying the points is what caused my MGB to FTP.

Just spent far too long downloading over a thousand files from the wankers at Photobucket. Last time I tried there was a download album option but it never worked and kept crashing. It seems to have gone AWOL this time (or I couldn't see it) but as it was shit I just sat there downloading them all one by one. Done now. Will have to update any old threads if I ever need to resurrect them.

Thanks for the heads up. I've just bought a dented HP Envy with no OS, saved nearly £50.

Yes, I got that email.  Fine, except I ordered some tyres for some of my Dinky cars.... last night!  They fell under the minimum spend anyway so it's no real loss.

Well I managed to find £190 of stuff to buy. Oops.

Naturally most of that is for the money pit MGB.

That code is really helpful thanks, there have been 3 X Mondeo base wheel trims I have been pondering on for ages, but that discount makes all the difference and I've nabbed them.

Nice one!

Probably shouldn't have spent what I just did but fuck it, its Christmas and that knocked a good chunk off the bill.

Woohoo the Tempra can be covered by FJ. Just need to get it a bit more roadworthy (how on earth it got an MOT is beyond me) and clean it and i can enjoy....

But

It's become a bit grumpy starting. It had been sat a few months beforehand, and the fuel light is on, so I think the smokey awakening a few days ago run it either out of, or low on, diesel.

Despite the utterly gross interior, it's really comfortable. Whereas the Tipo seats are alright, they are definitely a case of 'sat on' rather than in, the Tempra seats are way better. Happily no tears in the awesome 90s checkered fabric either. Dunno why Fiat decided to make the dashboard out of plastic that turns gloopy though....

In other news, someone i work with has potentially found cheaper storage in London for 7 cars, and has asked me if I wish to take part in it. I have said yes, dependant on cost. Means I can get the Tipo moved there and shove the Baccara in there too, and sort out the Tempra.

for the first time in quite a while i now have a full complement of working lights on the Rover.

today in spite of the cold i have changed the blown n/s headlamp and the o/s/r wiring harness.

now how long this everything working thing will last is anyone's guess.

Hi,
great news: My dad bought a 1998 Grand Espace V6 converted to manual gearbox and LPG for 750 Euros.

I was going to buy it but he took it off me when we went looking at it. It's a non-runner. Hats off, as he's 73 years old :) I was undecided but he wanted it. It must be in the genes. Here is us picking it up. Sorry, for the shite pic:
