Seems to still work.

I was getting pissed off with the steering column adjustment - then realised there was a separate adjuster (one of three) which locked the wheel into place.
I hadn't realised until now. DERP.

There's an excess to pay and I think it counts as a claim...

Excess is normally only for screen replacement & a claim for a new screen didn't affect my renewal a few years ago.

Usually a £70 excess but shouldn't count as a claim. Don't know who you are with but direct line haven't cared when I have had them replaced.

Every year I renew with directline, they say that it doesn't make a difference to the price but they do need to record of you've had a windscreen claim.

It's OMGSNOKHAOSed here overnight, so the drive to work is going to be fun*.  Still, at least I get to try out the Rover's winter tyres.

A friendly independent will often "lose" the excess, although some insurance companie insist on Autoglass etc.

Some* moron didn't mix their screenwash strong enough and had to drive 45 miles this morning without it. Thankfully the commute is mostly dark A road in the morning.

Ill join you in that club! Well, I presumed mine is the same, darednt try and face 4 smear wipes which would have killed all vision so soldiered on! Will chuck a kettle of hot water in the tank at lunchtime so I can get home and sort it out tonight*

Rub a handful of snow on the screen to get it wet & flick the wipers on. Works for mirrors too on a long drive.

The Subaru looked great but the front panel was being worked on so it was missing headlights/grill/bumpers/etc.

After boasting how reliable our Saab is it has just FTP! I should have kept my mouth shut.

Mrs Beard just rang to say she is stuck in Tesco car park in Burnley. Car cranks but won't start.

Gah!

Currently awaiting AA.

The vectra has gone. Made just over five hundred, winning bidder has already taken it.

Verdict is fuel pump failure. Apparently fairly common around 150k.

Currently being recovered to the friendly local garage.

After much anger, the Clio is now starting up alright in the cold. Had a hand changing one of the glow plugs, and thankfully one of the two you can actually get to was the culprit. Black with diesel.

Unsure if it was even seated correctly as the car seems a lot happier to drive now.

All I really need to sort is the awful thermostat now. It only warms up stuck in traffic.

Must have been a sign of things to come because last week I started (before it got cold) making a blue plastic Jeep for my niece for Christmas because she didn't want a Barbie pink Barbie Jeep.

It's not even a Jeep Jeep. Looks more like a Toyota to me. In plastic.

I'm sure I've seen this before somewhere.

All modernz is shit.

Low pressure fuel pump, apparently. Won't be any change out of £500- Merry Christmas from Volvo.

@Tickman: A new R8 screen is only about £50 (not including fitting), most excesses are more than that so there's not really any point.  While they shouldn't lodge it as a claim, some insurers do because they're bastards.

Commute to work today was as much of a pain in the arse as expected.  It took me 20 minutes to get out onto the bypass (usually takes 4).  To be fair the traffic then trundled along OK until it got to Norwich, which was jammed up solid.  Also a Pigsarsehole had managed to leave the road in spectacular style overnight and was wedged in some trees about 30' off the carriageway.  The roads in Norwich were mainly clear, but when I parked up and went to get the bike out of the boot I nearly went down on my arse as the bit of road near the gutter had obviously been missed by the gritters and was black ice.  There were a couple of bits on the cycle route which had also been missed, which made things interesting - although my folding bike currently has a chunky BMX tyre on the back which seems to give decent traction.

The run home was fine, roads were almost completely clear until I turned into my street - although a couple of fuckwits got mortally offended when I had the temerity to want to do more than 35 in a 60 zone and overtook them.  The winter tyres didn't seem to be doing that great of a job this morning, but then the snow was the nasty granular icy stuff that they don't tend to cope particularly well with anyway.  They actually made much more of a difference this evening when the snow was more compacted.  Also the car no longer wheelspins on the throttle in third on a damp road, which is good.  I've actually found that even the heater is adequate if I keep it on recirculate - it doesn't turn the cabin into a sauna like the Toyota's heater does, but it manages to take the chill off quite convincingly.

I did wonder if something like that could be just plumbed in between the tank and the filter.

Don't see why it shouldn't.  I have a feeling the Getz's current issues may be caused by the low pressure pump, as it's making some rather odd noises when priming the system - I think I may have run it too low on diesel and borked it - so I might try one of those Facet-style pumps in line with the existing pump if changing the diesel filter doesn't sort it.

Started the 1300 t'other day. It sounded VERY unhappy and alternated between various idle speeds and the number of cylinders it would fire on until it was warmed up which took an age.

Took it for a brief run around the block and it drove alright but the demist is dire and the heated rear screen is feeble. How on earth did I used to daily this thing in the winter?!

Wish the weather would improve, want to get the MOT done before Christmas and these aren't ideal DIY conditions...
